Right that would be the trade. I think if they make him an RFA this offseason you offer Brunson in a S&T. Robinson would be perfect here. Knicks really needed him in the playoffs but then they could find another big with all the cap space they have. Brunson helps them with scoring.

I think they will let him go bc they already have Okongwu they drafted 6th overall to be his replacement. They already have a bunch of good players I believe they would just want a pick.

Maxi to me is easily worth a late first from someone, add J Rich for a 2nd or space to get the salary matching wiithin a 3 or 4 team trade. Pick goes to Hawks, Maxi goes somewhere, Rich goes somewhere and Collins goes to Dallas. Definitely possible.

Right like Washington sends a couple of their young guys plus maybe a pick. I don't think Hawks want to add salary so you might need even a 4th team that wants Bertans for example who would be a big part of a KP/Wiz trade.

Plenty of teams need shooters so you send Bertans somewhere, Pick, maybe rotational player or two goes to ATL, Collins to Dallas, other misc pieces elsewhere.

All of our "roster talk" has been rather upended, since we've been considering who the Mavs *were* planning on going after, the type of players the Mavs target, who RC likes to play, etc. Now, anything is possible.

This one is huge. "5 out" might be a complete thing of the past. Who knows. I would assume Cuban will bring in analytics focused guys, so it probably won't be totally out, but the approach could be VERY different.

Whoever the coach is, I think if you get Collins, you focus on building an elite P&R offense with Luka and Collins, and try to turn KP into the stretch-5 equivalent of Klay.

This has to be THE "keep KP" plan IMO.

I mean it works for both "Keep KP" and "Build up KP value for trade deadline."

Clippers have zero chance to keep Jackson without blowing up their roster and salary dumping some guys.

How about something like Brunson/Powell for Jackson and pick 25? (the rights to pick 25, Clippers will have to make the pick and then trade it to skirt the stepien rules)

Mavs don't have to use the cap space this year and your cap space difference is a wash net year by trading Powell. Brunson really helps the clips out because they won't get anything if Jackson just signs elsewhere.

Mavs could also flip pick 25 and whatever else for a draft night trade if so inclined.

I don't think the Clippers have any bird right to Jackson, we can just sign him outright.

The point is to not have to sign him outright and use existing contracts to do so to maximize your offseason.

Say you do have cap space, sign someone else and then SNT Jackson.

I don't think you understand, the Clippers CAN'T S&T Jackson for that money. You have to have full bird rights to do that. It's the same reason the Kings can't S&T Holmes.

This is in addition to not being able to SnT Jackson on draft day.

My opinion regarding Hayward and Charlotte. I think he is a bit better player than KP. Similarly injury prone. However, he is way older than KP. He will be 35 when he will be paid 30+ mil. KP will only be 29. Putting all this together and calculating Charlotte dire need for center, I would say I would expect a sweetener from Charlotte. PJ Washington would be great, but I would also be satisfied with draft asset(s).

5 out is very much here to stay (in the league that is)

I would say maybe but I am coming around to the idea that KP is viewed as one of the worst contracts in the NBA an thus I would be surprised if any deal involves picks coming Dallas way.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Branduil - 06-19-2021

PLAN A: S&T for Collins, Dragic with MLE

PLAN B: Dump JRich, sign Reggie Jackson

PLAN C: Dump JRich, sign Holmes, trade Maxi+Brunson for Brogdon if possible

THJ can be re-signed in all of these plans.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - DanSchwartzgan - 06-19-2021

Something I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is how blank the slate might be for a new GM.  When someone proposes a Brunson trade, subconsciously I think to my self "no, that's Donnie's guy.  He's friends with his dad".  No, actually he's a backup PG over which the team has no control after next season.  I can play a similar mental exercise with most of the fan favorites.  DFS and Maxi aren't the hidden gem success stories unearthed by our GM.  They are just guys.  Maybe they fit the new GM's vision.  Maybe they don't.  THJ can be evaluated at face value and not based at all on family relationships or any other off-court factor.

The history with certain agents may or may not be gone depending on whether the relationship was more about Donnie or more about Cuban.  The rookies aren't the new GM's "guys" (and apparently weren't the old GM's guys either...too soon?) and the new GM didn't make the Porzingis trade.  People often say "no one is untouchable except Luka and _________" and then proceed to fill in their favorite player or some player they perceive the franchise won't trade because of X.  There is no X any more.  We can't even assume that our players will continue to perform in the same way as they have in the past because "Carlisle knows how to use Powell or doesn't know how to use _____".  It really is a totally blank slate...especially if the new GM is an outsider.  Look what just happened in Boston.  You can probably still smell Ainge's cologne in his office and Stevens has already erased one of his "mistakes".   Would an outsider GM be any more loyal to the current roster than the guy who got promoted from within?

I'm taking Hayward over KP simply because he's not a poor defender at the most important defensive position. KP may be younger, but I don't expect him to have a long career anyway.

The slate is blank but it's not like the Mavs were a lottery team.
They gave the Clips - with Kawhi - all they could handle; and they were right there with 18 minutes left in game 7.

It will be really interesting to see how new management evaluates this roster. Lots of questions ...

- Is KP a valued modern center; or is he Andrea Bargnani?
- Is THJ a bigger Jason Terry; or is he just a shooter who can get hot ...or shoot you out of a game?
- Is Maxi one of the best shooters in the NBA; or is he a fan favorite who teams don't guard?
- Is DFS an elite 3&D wing; or is he a low-mistake minutes-eater who played within the system?
- Is Brunson a starter in this league; or is he a career backup?
