I dunno, I think RoCo would be a pretty big upgrade over Maxi in this series. Same with Nurkic over KP.

Out of the McCollum/Powell/THJ/DFS group I’m taking DFS as the best currently. THJ/McC/Powell are close enough in scoring ability. But that’s beside the point......

Comparing Luka and Dame is like comparing MJ to Barkley. Barkley(Dame) was unlikely to ever win anything on his own. Whereas MJ(Luka) is a transcendent type of star that lifts all boats and is in a totally different class of player.

After the series i want to go back and watch both tapes, but the difference in Luka between just a few months ago in the bubble vs now against LAC is amazing. The defense he’s playing now, he’s an actual plus defender this series. The midrange game. He will only get better too.........regardless of what happens i believe the MBT will do whatever it takes this summer to set ourselves up for future playoff success. Big few months ahead for our organization

Guys not able to get minutes in this playoff series we should be concerned about:

J Rich (obv), Powell, & Brunson.

I know each series match up is different but the fact that these guys can't get a lot of burn is troubling. Rich will be on the move for sure but it makes me think DP, Brunson need to be looked at whether they can be playoff players.

He's that 6'8 switchable forward that can create for himself on offense. My one concern would him getting swallowed up in the Luka stardom and reverting back to his pre Pistons days where he was nothing more than a 4th option kinda like we're seeing with KP now.

I do also wonder if the Pistons would include Bey in any deal. Getting 2 forwards for KP would be a big return.

Ya I have been thinking about some kind of Pistons deal. They are not afraid to go big.

I doubt you get much argument around here about your MJ/Barkley comparison (though you might get some if you left the bubble of Maverick Fandom...but they probably don't know enough about Luka at this point).

But DFS > McC or Powell and THJ = McC or Powell is pretty homeristic.  The point of my question wasn't about Luka and Lillard.  The point was whether Luka is enough above Lillard to make up for the gap that exists between THJ/DFS and McCollum/Powell.

Yeah I’m living out in homer fantasy land these days. The playoffs are so intense on my emotions. I reserve the right to change my mind in a few hours but a win today and i think we win the West. Then lose in the finals. What we’re seeing is Luka do what Lebron did with those early days scrub Cavs players. He’s on the cusp of having that ability to will any team we have to a long playoff run. It happens earlier than you expect with the true greats

Jerami Grant for KP?

I think yall are going to be upset if a KP trade actually goes down.

Way too good to actually hope for. The time to go for Grant was last off-season.

I am sure there will be months of discussion of the Mavs offseason once the season if over, but how much $$ would we have had last year if we moved Seth for cap room?  Would that have given us enough for Bogdan?   I know we were waiting on Giannis but could you make an argument that they would have been at a better place if they created more room last offseason?

Also, if Seth was still here, you could probably get several teams interested if you wanted to move him now.   I think Philly is very happy with him, but if they decided to look at moving him, they would probably have a ton of interest.   Right?  It just sucks that we are sort of hamstrung until we get word about Richardson's player option.  Just like previous examples with Wright, we seem to really run value down on players we want to move.  His play, so far, in the playoffs certainly doesn't give other teams and their fans a lot of excitement of trading for him.

Richardson started in 56/59 regular season games. Probably against better judgement because the Mavs wanted to make it work. Avoid another Delon Wright situation. Not sure what else they could have done. Tank the series against the Clippers to showcase Richardson?

The Bucks really need shooters around Giannis. Lopez has been good for them but he's getting older and his 3PT shot has declined. KP(in theory) should be a perfect fit for them, as would THJ. The Mavs, OTOH, would get a guy who can be your #2 in the playoffs.

I'm listening...

I like that trade a lot and on paper it makes sense for the Bucks.

I do wonder how many more playoff flameouts does it take before Giannis regrets his supermax choice and asks out.

I hadn't thought ab KP to the Bucks but that actually makes a lot of sense if they can't get past the Nets this year. Giannis is as perfect a frontcourt mate as you could ask for with KP bc Giannis will cover up his defensive limitations.

Middleton on the Mavs would be a legit secondary playmaker.

So my issue is you can't really control what THJ does. It might need to be KP + something else, ie a player you control for Middleton + Lopez. Mavs have other pieces they can throw in there. If you did do Middleton + Lopez your starting 5 would be:

Luka
THJ
Middleton
DFS or FA big wing
Lopez

I think it really comes down to how Bucks value KP as being the central piece and then how they view other pieces (Maxi, Brunson, Rich being a few options).

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 06-06-2021

If you wanted to go all in on a Bucks package I think you could do KP, Maxi, Brunson for Middleton + Lopez which I would do. Lopez fits better as the stretch 5 than KP. Middleton is a legit 2nd playmaker, scorer and you can keep THJ as your third guy. Mavs would do some shopping to find a big wing replacement for Maxi.

Yea, that's what I meant.  Some of these KP packages are wishful thinking.

Look at what we paid to get KP.  He's now on a max contract with more injuries and pedestrian play.  His value is lower than what we paid.

I think we won't know his value until the trade actually happens which should be this offseason. There are enough desperate teams that I believe there will be a market and if there's a market that means competitive bids.

GSW, Blazers, Celtics are just a few examples of desperate teams and there will be others with either disappointing playoffs or desperate to get into the playoffs. There just aren't a lot of big names on the market so KP will be one of the bigger names that is "gettable." He's young, good counting stats, skilled, injury free for the moment and GMs will say the Mavs/Luka offense just wasn't a fit for him.

RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - StepBackJay - 06-06-2021

I'd add Spurs, Kings, Wizards to the list.
