RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - SleepingHero - 04-29-2021 (04-29-2021, 12:55 PM)omahen Wrote: Charlotte gets their center they don't have. Dallas gets a solid guard, good young PF and additional 10 mil of cap space. Again enough for Holmes and top guard/wing. I don't see how the Mavs are making out if they're giving up their 2nd and 3rd best player and getting back only Brogdon and space. Or even worse Roizer (who's cut from the same cloth as THJ) and space. If we're giving up KP AND Brunson the bare minimum in my eyes has to be a Bradley Beal/Zach Lavine type player. Or else we're taking 1 step forward 3 steps back. I don't actually think DeRozan has any interest in coming here or that our FO has any interest in a nonshooting wing but I would say that with the extra space you could also opt in to WCS and go after a cheaper wing behind DFS like Otto Porter. Love the idea of a more athletic wing-ier sort of 4 man in front of Maxi though. Someone who can guard all the wings that DFS can't because there are a few that push him around. Yeah, I just throw DeRozan as an example. Problem is there arent any great wings available in FA, DeRozan likely the best one. Would you try a lineup of Lowry-Rozier-Luka? Would there be enough balls to go around? What you could also do would be to expand that trade and send young assets and draft compensation from Charlotte for a wing. TJ Warren from Indy perhaps? I'm in the camp of Lowry being too old to take seriously but that opinion bit me in the ass when it came to CP3 so I'm ready to eat crow on that one down the road. Honestly I think just having just one person on the floor to create his own offense next to Luka is enough and the rest just needs to be versatile defenders who can shoot so I'm really ok using that money to sure up the bench behind DFS. Some of the more defensive options that could be available would be OPJ like I mentioned, PJ Tucker, Derrick Jones Jr (who we've shown interest in previously) or you could aim for more offense/shooting off the bench with names like Dougie McBuckets who obviously has history here and one name that I'm always surprised NEVER gets brought up anywhere on this board who has already shown being comfortable as a scorer off the bench and plays on a team that will be in a cash flow bind....is Will Barton. I like Barton but we would have to aim higher with 30 mil of cap space in this hypothetical. Another one I didn't really think about seriously is Duncan Robinson, because Miami might match a lot. But we could money whip them in this situation. Luka, Brunson Rozier, Green Robinson, DFS PJ, Maxi Holmes, Powell We would still have the Charlotte pick from KP fantasy trade, rMLE, BaE. Richardson played the best basketball of his career under Spoelstra. He knows the system and would be a cheap replacement. Opted in Jrich + 2 2nds for Duncan Robinson 4/70. Wouldn't it be more like gaining 8ish mil that we gain which would put us at 42M dropping capholds and opting out on Willie and 38M if opting in to WCS? I mean your point remains, I would almost argue you could go depth and just sign Holmes/Barton/Dougie with 38M and go look at some one like Dragic with the rMLE so that you aren't forced to start playing Green heavy minutes right away. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - omahen - 04-29-2021 (04-29-2021, 01:46 PM)StrandedOnBeauboisHill Wrote: Wouldn't it be more like gaining 8ish mil that we gain which would put us at 42M dropping capholds and opting out on Willie and 38M if opting in to WCS? We can always opt out of Willie and resign him with exception, if we care about him so much. I don't think a couple of good games convinced the league he should be paid more. As for guard/SF rotation - you would have Luka, Brunson, Rozier, Robinson and DFS for three spots. If starters take just 90 minutes, there are 54 available for Brunson and DFS. I don't think Green would see heavy minutes, even if I put him as a second guy at SG. I am somehow affraid there will simply not be enough minutes for all those players you mentioned. I even forgot we would still have Burke as a end of bench guard. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 04-29-2021 If we could get Brogdon and Holmes....oh man. They also fix our leadership and constant effort problem besides the great on court fit. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Mavs2021 - 04-29-2021 So many superstars have forced their way onto other teams with far less leverage than Lavine, who willl be in the last year of his contract. It´s time Duffy makes this happen. To the Bulls: Hield Richardson Kleber Green +three future 1st round picks To the Mavs: Lavine Holmes Young Aminu To the Kings: Porzingis Mavs cap situation: 1) Lavine 19.5 2) Powell 11.1 3) Holmes 11.0 4) Aminu 10.2 5) Doncic 10.1 Young 6.0 [buyout] 6) DFS 4.0 7) WCS 4.0 8) Burke 3.1 9) Brunson 1.8 ============ 80.8M MAX OFFER to John Collins. 10) Collins 28.8 ============ 109.6M 11) Bonga 1.8 12) Diallo 1.8 (RFA in a loaded position, but hard to tell where the Pistons stand on him, but he´s still just 22 years old, KENTUCKY pick, 43% for the Pistons from three on a small sample size, if they keep him, they´ll probably waive McGruder, who is 45% from three this year, so either will do) 13) Hartenstein 4.7 (room exception) 14) Melli 1.8 15) Z. Smith 1.8 (another prospect, former 16th pick in 2018, whose first two seasons were destroyed by a foot injury, last year he averaged 14 PPG in the G-League, then COVID struck, maybe this is the moment to get him, also just 21) Doncic/Brunson/Burke Lavine/Diallo/Smith DFS/Aminu/Bonga Collins/Powell/Melli Holmes/Hartenstein/WCS The back-up SG position and the bench offense look weak, but you can´t fix everything in one season. That´s what the buyout market, and trades are for, so get two young guys in there for 10-14 minutes behind Lavine and figure it out. Burke can always shift over there, too. Oh after the last hour I spent on basketball reference and spotrac, and seeing how similar the numbers or Lavine and Robinson are in some areas, I´m almost 100% sure that´s the guy the Mavs will try to get. Keep the team together and add Robinson. Though I hope Carlisle is prepared for a lot more offensive movement than we currently see in the Doncic two-men game, while the rest just spread the floor standing around. There isnt a shred of evidence he will end up in Texas. Mavs will probably end up with Theis. At that point I am throwing stuff at the wall. Cuban and Donnie really need to start making stronger moves in the market this off season. Also a good screener. Obviously not as good of a finisher. I actually prefer Theis because I think that Holmes will get at least 15m. In that case Theis for 5-10m and more money to upgrade the wing/guard positions is the better option. Theis and a starter level playmaker would be a very successful off season in my book. Graham to me isn't a clear cut upgrade. He can shoot the 3, but he also shoots 38% from the field for his career overall. For 34 mil you should easily be able to get both if that's what you wanted to do. I think J Rich is garbage so Graham is a big upgrade there. Brunson is good as a 6th man but doesn't really distribute and has trouble scoring against really long defenders like both LAC and LAL. Plus the fact that there's no guarantee you can keep Brunson. Mavs might need to trade him next year before he hits UFA if they don't think they can keep him, in which case having his replacement would be ideal. Holmes is an upgrade over Powell, so you at least get 2 starter upgrades for the money.
