The piece mentions Brunson is restricted this season if Mavs don't guarantee his last year.

THT just makes too much sense.  The more I think about the ups and downs of KP, I just have a hard time thinking of a better guy to slot into the Luka/KP core.  If KP is the long term future, THT will not ruffle KP's feathers as KP would still be the clear #2 option.  Even better, if the Mavs decide to part ways with KP, you can bring back any player/position without worrying about fit or redundancy.

I think he's shown enough to put you at ease as a secondary ball handler and is very promising from the standpoint of getting teammates involved.  He's got the physical tools and motor to be a top defense player in the league.  The question mark, as you pointed out, is can he improve that 3PT shooting.  His form looks fine to me.  I really think he could be a mini-Pippen.

I am leery of putting any player next to Luka who cannot stretch the floor (either from 3 or as roll man), especially if they are going to be a significant cost.  Same reason I'm out on DeRozan (although at least THT is young and provides needed defense).

That is his season high in points.  He's had an 11 and a 10 assist game this year and a seven and two other six rebound games.  This is the fourth time he's had three steals and he's had two games of four steals.  He accomplished all of that in 27 minutes, his 7th highest minutes played game of the season.

Besides John Collins, THT is another player who I'm targeting in free agency.  When given minutes to play, he has produced.  And he's only 20.  He needs to work on his 3 point shooting.  But he can defend and he's a good ballhandler.

I just don't see how that's true if Brunson is non-guaranteed. If the Mavs waive him they also waive his rights. Just think this is another case of a Bleacher Report employee not understanding the NBA.

Original source is actually Marc Berman from NY Post. Bleacher just copied the article.

Nevertheless, SH is very correct. It doesn't matter who stupidly wrote it and who stupidly copied what was not accurate - there is no possible scenario for Brunson to be a RFA this summer.

THT isn't a guy that's going to get away bc the Lakers have his rights and a GM isn't going to pay THT 80 mil on this short a sample size. I realize the eye test looks good on THT but he is still a 8 ppg scorer this year. Whatever the number is, I don't expect it to be crazy and I expect Lakers to match.

He's not going to be a Laker next year.

He's going to get a contract (not max) that the Lakers will not match.

Don´t. Wagner is another CharlieV. Stretch big that cannot shoot. Terrible defender and rebounder.

If he was on the Mavs would you be saying just let him walk for nothing? Why wouldn't they keep him?

They'd love to keep him and will match up until a certain point, but their championship window is now and their are cap ramifications now (for LeBron's run) or in the future (for when they are the Lakers are AD's team).  My guess is that number is around 15 million per.  They also don't have to let him walk for nothing if they decide not to match.

He isn't going to get 15 mil per year this early in his career. Now you could talk me into a situation where maybe they find a S&T partner. That's the only way he is not a Laker. But he isn't going to get some massive deal off of such a small body of work.

I like Maxi but I wonder if we need to sell high on him. I love DFS not sure I am ready to let him go yet.

We’re not close to the same situation the Lakers are in.

Any offer for THT (which will be matchable) will be limited by, and complicated by, the Arenas Rule. That lowers the offer possibilities to a starting cap hit in about the $18-19M range (but no higher).

Not that I think he will get offered even that much (or is worth that much), however - THT's a DFS type guy (only with Lakers' hype), and DFS got $4M a year at a similar juncture in his career.
