RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - ItsGoTime - 04-12-2021 Alright, using everyone but Luka (KP, JB, THJ SnT, JR SnT, Maxi, DFS, Green, Reddick SnT) I believe we can retool this team into a contender. Start with KP and JB for Turner, Brogdon and a first or 2. Maxi, DFS and a first for Collins SnT THJ and a second for OPJ SnT SnT Reddick and Green for Dinwiddie Opted in JRich and 2 seconds for THT Luka/Dinwiddie/TT Brog/THT/Burke OPJ/vet min/Bey Collins/vet min/vet min Turner/Powell/WCS RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - Scott41theMavs - 04-12-2021 (04-12-2021, 08:50 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: Alright, using everyone but Luka (KP, JB, THJ SnT, JR SnT, Maxi, DFS, Green, Reddick SnT) I believe we can retool this team into a contender. But maybe it is RC and another coach could more effectively integrate the strengths of KP+Luka. Not sure. Where this team is on that spectrum is debatable. I’m torn too. My friend & I were talking about this a couple of weeks ago watching the game. I think he’s a good coach, but I just think it’s time for a change. However, I’m sure Cuban & Nelson think he’s a long time coach like Jerry Sloan, Gregg Popovic. I don’t know if they just need more talent, or a better coach. I think you make a valid point. I’ve realized that after Mavs won the championship 10 yrs ago. The times they’ve made the playoffs, they haven’t made it past the 1st round. I just hope they get more talent this off season because I don’t think Luka is as patient, loyal like Dirk was for us. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - IamDougieFresh - 04-13-2021 Perhaps they fix the dog shit supporting cast before firing Rick or trading KP. If Donnie can't do it, he should be the first to go. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - mvossman - 04-13-2021 (04-12-2021, 10:22 PM)Tunesquad23 Wrote: I agree. I just hope they get more talent this off season because I don’t think Luka is as patient, loyal like Dirk was for us. Since the championship, the issue with this team has always been lack of talent. Carlisle has generally gotten more out of this team than what should reasonably be expected. The real problem is I don't think the talent issue is primarily Donnie. I think it's been more of a Cuban issue, starting with plan powder culminating in the decision to trade down and draft Larkin to save cap space instead of getting Donnie's pick Giannis. I think all the star chasing (for guys who turned out not to be stars) is primarily Cuban driven including that disastrous Rondo trade. It's been a lot better the last couple of years when it seems like Cuban has backed off some, but there still have been hints of the past like the star chasing for Kemba (which like the others would probably been a mistake) and then the inability (unwillingness) to spend the cap space you made from dumping Barnes. I feel like Cuban has maybe been our worst enemy and the more he backs off and lets Donnie and Rick work the better off we will be. Also, this kind of talk feels like a bit of an over reaction to a bad loss against our probably worst matchup without our second best player. The real mistake here is we don't know how to rest players correctly. We should have played Maxi against SA (which probably would have been a win) and rested everybody in this game. There have been several times where we have gotten cute with resting players and lost games we should not have. I hope we get that shit fixed soon as it is costing us games we cant afford. Pretty much this. We have lost at least a couple of games this way. Sitting guys on the front-end of a back-to-back is riskier. Obv you would have better odds to be full-strength against a weaker opponent and then rest guys on the back-to-back, basically guaranteeing a loss but you hedge your bets. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 04-13-2021 Wasn't there a stat like if Mavs have 3 20 point scorers they win? (someone can look that up? I have heard on LockedOn Mavs). Luka - 28 ppg season avg KP - 20 ppg season avg Demar - 21 ppg season avg PROBLEM SOLVED RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - Jason Terry - 04-13-2021 (04-13-2021, 10:15 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: Wasn't there a stat like if Mavs have 3 20 point scorers they win? (someone can look that up? I have heard on LockedOn Mavs).I’m coming around on Derozan. We’ve been running out 2 PG’s with success for many years, so why not 3? It would hurt to let a team first guy like THj go who can be a lights out 3pt shooter. Richardson opts in and gets an extension with max raises. Derozan gets what’s left giving him around a 3 yr $70 million deal. Offensive lineup: Brunson/Luka/Derozan/Maxi/KP Defensive lineup: JRich/Luka/DFS/Maxi/KP Mix and match who plays and who starts based on the other teams personnel. It would require Luka/Derozan/KP to all buy in and work together(tall order) to play off each other. 3pt shooting would suffer and some of our guys would need to take more volume 3’s(Brunson, Maxi, KP especially). RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 04-13-2021 DeRozan does have some position flex. I think you would start him in place of J Rich and then bring J Rich (or a suitable replacement) off the bench. It's easier to add shooters and defensive pieces than it is to get an offensive talent of DeRozan's caliber. Mavs got the best 3 point shooter basically in JJ for nothing. They got Curry for cheap. Maxi is like a top 5 shooter this year. Mavs turned THJ somehow into a 40% 3 point shooter. Brunson is now a 40% shooter. So like shooters can be found. 2-way players are harder to find but still possible. I don't see how Mavs aren't a top 5 offense with DR, especially if they can add a shooter to replace the loss of THJ's production. Mavs would have multiple ways to win other than Luka going nuts or a high 3% any given night. Top 10 defense would be tougher, I think you'd be hoping for 15th or better (Mavs currently 15th). Luka (11th) AND DeRozan (4th) are on the top-15 guys with the EASIEST matchups this season. Meanwhile, DFS (7th) and J-Rich (11th) are on the top-15 guys with the HARDEST matchups this season. This gave me reason for concern about DDR's fit here defensively. If he came, he or Luka would have to guard the 2nd or 1st option (maybe Maxi with one of them hidden on the opponent's PF).
