For anything related to cap space, I think this is correct.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Branduil - 12-21-2020

2021 free agency is more or less closed. The Mavs can't get cap space without letting guys go, in which case you might as well just make some trades now.

Deadlines make deals.

Justin Anderson appears to be available. Cut by the 76ers.

We might be into RFA, which is a big risk.
Only thing that has upside going that way is timeline, players like Isaac, Collins etc fits Luka timeline more than any player the Mavs have atm
But are they good enough? Is it worth the risk of losing our own FA just to get our offer matched?

Which is the only example in the last two years. Smart teams trade their players if they don't intend to keep them. It is safe to say Sacramento wasn't (still isn't?) a smart team. I don't remember anyone else even trying to go the RFA offer sheet gamble in the last two seasons.

Available for the G-league or China? He can be happy if he gets another roster spot in the NBA. Outside of slightly above average defense he has no NBA ready skill. Cannot shoot, pass or handle the ball. I guess some Mavs fans have a soft spot for Simba but at this point I would be suprised if he develops into a useful rotation player in the next few years.

UFA: OPJ, Oladipo, Schroeder, Fournier (6th man), Oubre
RFA: Isaac, Kennard, Collins, Anunoby, White, Hart, Trent, Robinson

I'd rather keep THJ and JRich than almost all of those guys.  Something went very wrong if Schroeder, Oubre, Kennard, Hart or Trent is starting here.  Maybe OPJ and Dipo (if you trade for them during the season) and for sure Isaac, Collins and Anunoby (but you have to clear the decks and HOPE the other team blinks) can start here.  Robinson isn't free until 22.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-21-2020

I hope the Mavs aren't getting their hopes up that they are going to steal Jrue away (or Kawhi, etc). Realistically they need to head into FA with the idea of keeping THJ and J Rich + adding one more starter at the TDL. Mavs have a bunch of expirings so you would think there's got to be some player somewhere that Mavs could get from a team that is clearly cap space. Mavs would then resign their guys and still have the MLE to get a player or two.

Some people love ex-Mavs. Nostalgia? Ah, the good ol' days when Justin was a Mav.

Duncan Robinson is FA next season

What about Drummond? Similar to Gobert, maybe not as expensive?

Gobert has been the best defender in the league over the last 3-5 seasons. Drummond probably is a net negative on defense.

Did you enjoy what Jordan gave the Mavs? Refusing to play defense in order to hunt for easy rebounds? Because that’s what you’d get with Drummond, too.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Kammrath - 12-21-2020

As the leader of the Gobert-push, I will 100% and completely reject any Drummond talk. They may both be centers, but that is the end of the comparison.

No he's just another DAJ.

If anyone is wondering what the Mavs front office projects as the starting lineup once KP is healthy, their media guide cover offers a pretty good clue.

Hey now!! That was my lineup before Dan convinced me that I might be wrong! :-D

That actually makes sense.

DP is being used as a place holder, not DFS. I still think I would prefer WCS as the place holder, but I get if RC isn't ready to trust him with that responsibility.

My take: I still don't like DFS at the PF because he is historically worse there on both ends. But with the added dynamic of JRich and him as the smallest player I think it could be worth the experiment.

So, in a sense, I agree. But, having glimpsed a little bit about how things like this work in the Mavs organization, I can tell you that there’s much less connection between “departments” than you might think.

My informed guess is that Donnie, Carlisle and the player/personnel side has very little interest in the marketing side, and that the marketing guys aren’t really given access to much of their thinking.
