RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - dirkfansince1998 - 03-26-2021 If I am not completly wrong the Mavs could also use the BAE (over the cap). Would be a good option for a veteran signing. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - StepBackJay - 03-26-2021 (03-26-2021, 03:55 PM)cow Wrote: If you are going to sit KP on back-to-backs and play games when you need stout defenders against post presences like Joker and Embiid, Rick needs to get over himself. Howard is making 2.5m this year. I'd give him 4m without thinking twice because it's still an amazing bargain. Rick's guys Boban and WCS often don't see the floor. They also make 1 million more than Howard and McGee are making this year. Ya honestly I don't know what Mavs will do at center next year. If Mavs don't shake up the KP situation they could just roll with the 4 guys they haven, given that Powell is playing better. I could see them trading WCS for someone they like better altho WCS isn't bad for what he is getting paid. Richaun Holmes is a UFA and I would imagine gets at least MLE. Mavs will have plenty of options, its hard to predict which way they will go. I just know Mavs don't like Dwight at all and I don't think McGee played very well his first stint here so I doubt they go back down that road again. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - Mapka - 03-26-2021 (03-26-2021, 03:43 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: So last year Maxi was the KP role when KP is sitting, that is true. I think this year that's over with because Mavs needed more defense and Maxi is playing too well to not start next to KP. I think DP is back in a better role where he can be the first big off the bench and do some rim rolling when KP sits. Maxi starting and closing is fine, I still think if all three are healthy KP will play more with DP(/WCS) than with Maxi, as we will always try to have at least one of KP and Maxi on the floor. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - Tyler - 03-26-2021 I think Dieng would be an awesome pickup. Sorry, Melli. https://twitter.com/TheAthletic/status/1375555459181072393 RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - cow - 03-26-2021 (03-26-2021, 04:05 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: Ya honestly I don't know what Mavs will do at center next year. If Boban or WCS wear a Mavs jersey after this season, it will be a huge disappointment. Mavs got past DAJ scorning them so I'm sure the can overlook "cartoongate" and Howard. I'd honestly sign both to 1 year deals given the option. Worst case is you could flip them to contenders at the TDL. Those are guys that can contribute night and night out and someone like Howard might start more often than we'd imagine. I like Holmes too but I do worry about the Mavs going for the homerun (Collins) and then trying to pickup the pieces again. A Holmes/THT offseason would be great and then you make the decision on veteran free agents and what to do with THJ/JRich. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - SamStetz - 03-26-2021 Yeah I’d take Dieng over Melli. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - Time Machine Dirk - 03-26-2021 (03-26-2021, 12:08 PM)jesusshuttlesworth82 Wrote: Based on everything I've heard/read...it's all been a version of: "There's no way the Mavs could trade KP right now even if they arent convinced in him. His value is as low as it has ever been. Definitely lower than when the Mavs traded for him." You would certainly get something better for KP now than what we paid for him. Why? 1) He won't be a free agent this summer, so there is no danger he is just a "loan". 2) KP is actually healthy right now and only had one major knee injury in the last two seasons if I remember correctly. Other injuries were just minor ones like back tightness or whatever. Nothing serious. Remember: He wasn't healthy when we traded for him. He came of an ACL injury and nobody knew if he still was as athletic and mobile as before - turns out, he still has his athleticism and his mobility looked also totally fine in the last few games. 3) We saw KP's real value when Luka was hurt last season, in the bubble and in the first two games against the Clippers in the playoffs. He can be a game changer! Remember: It was obvious that the Clippers didn't know how to stop him and we would have won the series if he had stayed healthy. 4) Name 3 big men/center who are as talented as KP, who have as much upside as him and who are/have been clearly more healthy. Towns? Davis? Embiid? All always injured - even more often than KP (don't want to jinx him - fingers crossed). Wiseman? Markanen? Too raw - not the same potential as KP, also often injured. Vucevic? Much older, so much less upside. He will start declining soon. But him and Adebayo are the only cases one could make as centers who are better AND healthier than KP right now. I am sure we could get a clear star in a KP trade if he stays mostly healthy for the rest of the season. That's why I wouldn't even trade KP for John Collins straight up. The Hawks would have to add a first rounder or a talented young player like Huerter for example, maybe even both. I don't really care ab taking on big money so long as it doesn't extend past KP's opt-out year. I think that is the year you would want to reset around Luka would will still be on his RFA max. I am confident the MBT is thinking that way as well.Sign players to reasonable or discount contracts and a reset is not a concern no matter when it happens. I don't have any reason to doubt what you're saying, just don't understand it. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - ItsGoTime - 03-26-2021 Also, if the players are looking for time and bottom line and we're offering the 3 year deal, doesn't it make sense that that makes it easy for a team to outbid us using an extra year? Thinking about this from both sides. We can have all the plans in the world until it falls through, then we have an offseason like the last 2 years.
