RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $25.7M - $37.3M in capspace this summer - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 03-26-2021

Not all first round picks are equal.  2 top five-seven picks is way more valuable than 3-4 bottom of the first round picks.

The minutes will be spread over this three with Boban and WCS sprinkled in. So I couldn't care less who is 2 or 3.

Just can't stand CC and Collins will be overpaid and scares the shit out of me with his PEDs.

Would have said I prefer Maxi/DP to them if it wasn't too ridiculous.

3rd in the rotation, #1 in our hearts.

Which is good thing IMO, though I think he can play off the ball when needed

If the first build around Luka-KP and supporting cast fails they could make a cut and start from scratch (around Luka and 1-2 max slots).
If what you’re saying is true and they want time and bottom line. This makes little sense in my mind. In 3 years, those 2 will still be pretty good on court players so the contracts would work as trade filler pretty easily on a reset. You might be right in that that is their mindset though.

Time for KP to hurt his back carrying this team to consecutive wins.

B2B resting? Luka out tonight and KP out tomorrow?

And lose both? Smile I am aware schedule is really tight, but resting guys so much on purpose? After an easy walkover against Minny? Mavs have a serious opportunity to climb the board in next couple of weeks. I hope they will not waste it.

I think, Luka really has back problems, I don't believe they would be resting him

Most of the big cap space teams are rebuilding so they aren't going to pay THJ 20 mil a year. His market is lower than you think. I think he could and should have multiple full MLE multi-year deals. The Pels need shooting so I could see them giving him above MLE level money but in my view 15 is probably his max on a yearly basis. He is a shooter that plays hard but has limitations.

J Rich is still start money, somewhere where he gets paid now to that 15 mil mark. Again the issue for these guys is there aren't a bunch of teams with cap space that want to throw money at vets. The RFA market should be hot though.

Just to make the thesis clear... I think due to the lack of quality players and the overall lack of shooters on the market, THJ is going to be a highly sought after FA namely by contending teams but really by anyone wanting shooting.

And when Dallas makes it clear they are willing to work on SNT for him I think he's going to have quite a few names after him.

I think we consistently undervalue our own free agents. Same thing happened for Barnes and I was one of the ones saying that Barnes was going to get paid again. And teams are still fine with that contract. Gosh he's so mediocre haha. Great dude tho...

To be clear tho I normally wouldn't think THJ is a 20 mill guy in most markets. I don't think Collins is a for sure max guy in most markets but he's definitely getting maxed this summer.

Edit: I also would not be surprised to see Dallas offer him a deal over 20 mill to keep him for one extra year but not have to commit to him long term. That may even be the most likely thing.
Of course if they can sign both THJ and Richardson to sub 15 mill long term contracts, I think they do both of those. That's just a solid trade asset at that point.

So perhaps I should amend my original thoughts and suggest that I don't see them both here at the end of next season. Like very very little chance of that IMO.

Okay well holler back at me when THJ gets this 20 mil/yr contract in a few months. I would not include Dallas giving him a 1 yr 20 mil deal as nuts seeing as how they have his bird rights.

You would have to tell me if he doesn't sign with Dallas who these teams are that are going to pay 29 yr old THJ 20 mil/yr. I don't see it. He is a shooter and sort of in btwn a starter and 6th man so he has some value but not 20 mil/yr.

I agree with the timing around KP's contract. I don't really care ab taking on big money so long as it doesn't extend past KP's opt-out year. I think that is the year you would want to reset around Luka would will still be on his RFA max. I am confident the MBT is thinking that way as well.

So last year Maxi was the KP role when KP is sitting, that is true. I think this year that's over with because Mavs needed more defense and Maxi is playing too well to not start next to KP. I think DP is back in a better role where he can be the first big off the bench and do some rim rolling when KP sits.

and I'm not even on the trade KP bus or I dislike KP train but obviously my outlook on him today is not the same as the day we made that trade with NY.  It's definitely lower.  Not sure how much lower.

The Mavs got him for two low first round picks and DSJ.  Now he's had one more significant injury and is on a max contract.  There's no chance in hell you're getting essentially two top 5 picks for him.

Man I don't think so. KP still having a good year statistically and Mavs win % is good when he and Luka play together. I know we have seen stuggles especially defensively but he's been playing much better lately and is healthy. I don't think his value is low at all, certainly not lower than what the Mavs pay for him which was basically 2 picks and taking THJ. DSJ was already flaming out at the time.

Dwight Howard and Javale McGee are going to be free agents.  Even a slight overpay of either would still but them in bargain territory.  The only question is if our locker room is mature enough to handle their personalities.

If you are going to sit KP on back-to-backs and play games when you need stout defenders against post presences like Joker and Embiid, Rick needs to get over himself.  Howard is making 2.5m this year.  I'd give him 4m without thinking twice because it's still an amazing bargain.  Rick's guys Boban and WCS often don't see the floor.  They also make 1 million more than Howard and McGee are making this year.
