I don’t think the Mavs did anything wrong in that situation. The only reason it became a thing is because LeBron opened his stupid bitch mouth without having all the facts like always. I think it was enough that Barnes was informed that he was likely to be traded during the game.

I agree, but I also think in this world of ours it’s better just to play things extra safe, sometimes. The true knowledge of who’s at fault doesn’t keep it from being brought up 2-3 times each year.

Can’t argue with that.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - Mavs2021 - 03-22-2021

Trade 1:

James Johnson for Jabari Parker + Cory Joseph.

At age 26 Parker is still very young. Yes he is not very good defensively, but he´ll play against bench units and we can surround him with plenty of defensive power, but he gives us a different scoring punch off the bench. Joseph is the perfect salary matching contract for the summer.

Trade 2 (Summer):

S&T Joseph (2.4M guaranteed) + Powell + Burke + unprotected 1st round pick for DeRozan (or Lowry/Oladipo).

Sign a back-up center. Try to find a cheap knock down shooter SG/SF.

Draft Charles Bassey (Nigeria/Western Kentucky) or one of the projected Euro bigs, that are always value in the 2nd round. I´d also call Indiana and ask what they want for Goga Bitadze. He´s the next big to Zubac. Sometimes it´s as easy as a simple comparison: if you outplay Giannis/Jokic in the same league at the same age, you cannot be a bum. You´ll likely not be a top 10 superstar, but you´ll likely have a long NBA career.

Doncic/Brunson/Terry
Richardson/THJ/Green
DeRozan/DFS/Shooter X
Kleber/Parker/Bey
Porzingis/ X /Bassey

Btw Markkanen has played a really strong season: shooting 50/40/82. I think if the Mavs make a RFA play, it will be him and not Collins.

I guess it all comes down to what is more appealing to Cleveland...2 1/2 years of Powell or paying a second rounder a year ago to eat the Drummond salary.

I don't think Drummond is a primary target for Dallas despite all the chatter.  I think they might want to move off of Powell's 22/23 money to deploy it elsewhere.  They are probably looking for more productive ways of doing that (like including Powell in a deal for a player they want to keep).  Short of that, Drummond's expiring deal might be a means to a financial end.  It probably leaves us with two centers who don't feel they get the ball enough instead of the current one.  To me, the role that is available is scoring big for 16-18 minutes a game when KP sits.  Kind of a bigger non-shooting version of what Melo and Rudy Gay do these days.  Can Drummond, Brunson and THJ hold their own against second units in the playoffs?

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - bodhisattva - 03-22-2021

Serious question.

Since Houston is going up in flames you guys think there is any chance we could steal Wood from them?
Would Houston trade him? Is it even possible? I don´t see them being good in the foreseeable future, hell i would give up KP for Wood at this point.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - Chicagojk - 03-22-2021

My trade deadline predictions (with little research and no insider access)

-Evan Fournier is moved but Gordon is not.   Fournier is a Free agent after the year and the Magic are going to reset (hopefully with a high pick), so they might as well try to get something for Fournier now.   They hold on to Gordon who should have a similar market this offseason.    It would be nice to see how Issac looks after injury and what what type of first round pick they get for this year.    So unless they are knocked over, they hold on to Gordon.   Vucevic doesn't go anywhere either.

- Houston trades Oladipo but has to take a reduced offer.   Maybe it is a first round pick and something else.  I also wouldn't be surprised if it is a surprise team.

-Cleveland finds some small offer for Drummond.

-Sacramento finds a small deal for Bjelica.   They waive Jabari Parker.

-The buyout market has a few names but nothing very attractive.

-Atlanta holds off on any moves.

-Clippers find a small move for a point guard.   Maybe Presti gets a 2050 first round pick from the Clippers in a trade for George Hill.

Did we ever determine if Jake Fischer from Bleacher report is legit?

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2937485-what-inside-sources-are-saying-about-biggest-nba-trade-deadline-targets

It seems more likely than ever Orlando may move Gordon before Thursday's deadline, but Evan Fournier and his $17 million expiring contract is an even better bet to be traded. The Mavericks have been the loudest rumored team for Fournier, with one potential package being James Johnson and two second-round picks, according to league sources.

Dallas, Boston, Minnesota, Detroit and Atlanta have all been linked to Powell (Norman) discussions as the deadline draws closer, sources said. "I think there's probably a 75 percent chance he gets moved," said one team capologist.

I believe in this market, I expect Fournier to get a better offer than above.   But if true, sign me up.   It does create a little log jam, but I don't know how you can turn that deal down.   I would imagine it is easy to beat though.  Even if it is just a rental for Fournier.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - JamesConway - 03-22-2021

I’m mostly against rentals unless Powell is being moved.

I’d rather go after Bogdan than Evan F. Bogdan is locked into a fair deal and was a popular name around here last summer for a reason. He missed a chunk of the year due to injury but has left that behind him now.

With him and Luka on the squad you’re basically never forced to play short guards anymore due to a lack of ballhandling. We could flood the roster with 6‘7+ guys who shoot and defend.

So, Dallas is rumored to be in on two O-oriented SG's?  With all due respect to Omahen, I don't see this unless JRich or THJ is outgoing as part of another deal.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - Tyler - 03-22-2021

Interesting. I could definitely see Fournier in Dallas, especially if the cost is only some second rounders. And I also wouldn't assume it's a rental, as he seems like the type of player they'd look at in FA anyway. Maybe they'd like the option to acquire him now and operate over the cap. If bigger fish don't materialize in FA, you can do a lot worse than lock up a bunch of athletic 20-something guards/wings like THJ, Fournier, and JRich and let Luka pass to whoever is most open. And if it starts to feel crowded you'll have plenty of trade ammo.

BTW, I don't remember where I saw it but I remember seeing an old rumor that Dallas is a team that Fournier specifically would like to play for. So there could be motivation on both sides to get something done.

I believe they'll know if it's a rental before the trade is made, and that the price (assets in trade) will tell us a lot about the intentions, for both the Mavs and the incoming player. Teams know they can't ask for the same return in a rental situation as they can in a re-sign with new team situation.

Example: KP. I believe the "problems" in New York were 100% about them not being sure they wanted to offer the rookie max extension, and his trade request was about finding a team who would. Dallas decided to offer him the max they could BEFORE giving up DSJ and two firsts.

With Drummond, NOBODY wants to commit to whatever crazy thing he wants in the future at this time, which is why he's rumored to be available for a 2nd, or a similarly small asset. That's a "rental" price.

In the cases of Gordon, Collins or Norman Powell, you'd have to think the Mavs see a way forward. Fournier...I'm not so sure. He could be an add to the core or a rental.

I am ok, if that other deal brings a quality big wing. I doubt Mavs have the ammo for two deals though. I think they would try and play Fournier or Powell at SF. Although defense would suffer a lot.

As for Mavs mentioned in trades - so far "they have showed interest" in Collins, Gordon, Drummond, Fournier, Powell, Oladipo, Nance and I don't know how many other names.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - Chicagojk - 03-22-2021

I think Powell is an interesting name for contenders.    I remember watching him in the bubble and thinking how good he looked.    I don't know the full story on him.  I could see him in the Jordan Clarkson role off the bench.   The question is whether that is what he is looking for.

Kleber has to be on the list, too. Not bc anybody wants to dump him but the roster outside of Luka can’t be untouchable. If they think a Gordon/KP or Collins/KP frontcourt is better than Kleber/KP you have to make him available.

Just sucks that we’ve got so little left in terms of assets. Our valuable trade pieces are all important parts of the rotation. Moving them might lead to some ahort term issues on the court. It’s not an easy position that we’ve maneuvered ourselves into over the last offseasons.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | DAL interested in John Collins - Tyler - 03-22-2021

BTW, most articles I see about Collins point out how the Hawks think they'd have a tough time getting good value for him because of his low salary. DFS, Brunson, and picks is an oddly specific proposal that could potentially be a good trade match in terms of both money and value. I wonder if Brad's non-Mavs source is in Atlanta.

Interesting, so:

Luka/Richardson/Hardaway/Collins/KP

Better, or worse? Offensively, that could be scary. But defensively...I'm not sure I like it.

Yeah, if the incoming asset is either Gordon or Collins, I think I'd prefer to give up Kleber and hold onto DFS (if forced to give up one or the other).

Obviously, the seller sets the price at the end of the day.
