In a couple years those guys become massive expirings of their own, which we can package with the picks we get for trading for them. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 12-18-2020 What´s the best all in offer the Mavs could make to redirect Simmons to Dallas? 2025 1st, 2027 1st all remaining 2nds THJ, James Johnson as matching salaries? Taking back bad longterm salary from Houston (Eric Gordon)? Value contracts Maxi, JRich, Brunson, DFS? Rookies? My max offer would be: 2025 1st + 2027 1st + 2nds + THJ + Brunson + Johnson + DFS + Powell --> Gordon + Simmons and that´s not enough. Not willing to give up Maxi or Richardson. Maybe the Mavs could include on of the rookies but that wouldn´t move the needle. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Branduil - 12-18-2020 Simmons is fools' gold as long as he refuses to shoot the ball. I used to think this way about a potential fit in Dallas for Simmons. But, @"omahen" forced me to imagine him as a replacement in the Powell role, kind of like how they planned to use Giannis. I have to say, I think that would open up all kinds of possibilities for the Mavs on both ends of the floor. I don't think they have a chance to get him, but my goodness, I definitely think he'd fit just fine. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - omahen - 12-18-2020 (12-18-2020, 09:31 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: I used to think this way about a potential fit in Dallas for Simmons. But, @omahen forced me to imagine him as a replacement in the Powell role, kind of like they planned to use Giannis. If Simmons would accept to be a defensive pest only, he would be great. He is arguably better than prime Draymond Green on defensive side and still very young. On offense, you can't play him on ball, because defense just backs off which kills offense. If non shooter PG could thrive, Dunn would sign 20 per contract, not 5 million one. However, for some reason he is valued far greater than what he can realistically contribute. As long as he refuses to shoot the ball, he is one of the most overrated players in the league. In general - Mavs don't have ammo for top 30 players, unfortunately. None of the rookies showed he can be immediate contributor (might change till TDL). So I wouldn't spend too much time thinking about Beal, Simmons and similar. Meaning that Giannis is fools`gold as well because he is a terrible shooter but has the green light to take jumpshots? Simmons is one of the best defenders in the league. Good passer. Good scorer in the paint. Probably the 3rd best transition player in the entire NBA (behind Giannis and LeBron). He basically is Giannis light. Simmons never scored more than 17 ppg per game. GA was at almost 30 last season. There is an ocean between them. Besides, GA will really have a hard time winning anything until he can shoot with a decent percentage or stops playing onball in halfcourt. Yep. Cheap shot artist. Doesn't make him look "tough". He knew everyone would get between him and the Bryant. This is the same guy that kept pushing an equipment guy's head into his crotch during a game. Besides, GA will really have a hard time winning anything until he can shoot with a decent percentage or stops playing onball in halfcourt. But we all expected Giannis to play off the ball with Luka. Why not make the same assumption when it comes to Simmons? It was already mentioned in previous posts. Simmons is basically the perfect small ball 4/5. Especially next to a stretch big like KP. I just don´t understand posters that want Powell to start even though he cannot shoot only to completly rule Simmons as a potential fit on the Mavs roster because he cannot shoot. We can't trade 2 first picks unless we remove protection in 2023 pick. And even then, if they want 2 picks that will mean we will also have to remove all protections on those 2 picks due to 7 year rule. That is why I firmly believe Mavs better served in "reloading" their asset. Draft picks and young players are the most desired trading currency, we lack both atm. Build value for some of our rookies, pay some of our draft debt to the Knicks and then enter the market aggressively with our assets. Giannis is a score first PF who is able to pass the ball. Simmons is a pass first point forward whose career best is 16.9 PPG which equals Giannis scoring in his 3rd year (when he was at same age as Simmons during rookie year) This will be a waste of his talent tbh. That said, he is one of those players that if you have a chance to get you do it and figure it out later. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - HanspardsShowerVoice - 12-18-2020 I would love to have Simmons. I've long fantasized about Aaron Gordon being a Dwight Powell+ upgrade at the 4 to compliment KP, but it's doubtful he's ever going to become what I envisioned/hoped him to be (basically Draymond lite on defense & elite roll man on offense). Simmons could be that. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 12-18-2020 (12-18-2020, 10:11 AM)omahen Wrote: Luka expects a title before 2027, not after. I don´t want to throw them away but if the Mavs can add someone that would turn them into a true contender I don´t really care. I do not blame the Clippers for the PG trade. Same for the Bucks and the Jrue trade. Lakers certainly aren´t complaining about the AD trade and they basically traded an entire rebuilding package for him. At some point teams have to commit. Otherwise they end up in the good but not good enough to win it all category. |
