RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - StepBackJay - 03-14-2021 Gordon is just an okay player to me. I would consider him an upgrade over DFS. The problem is Orlando thinks AG is a better player than he is. If I am the Mavs I would give up DFS plus Green and filler but nothing else. I imagine some team would give up a late first round pick plus filler. That's what he's worth to me. I am thinking Maxi can kick in another gear when he needs to on boards. If its a close playoff game and the team needs boards...I think Maxi is capable. Maybe I remember wrong and stats say he is average/below average. But I seem to remember him active in the bubble. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - StepBackJay - 03-14-2021 Mavs have a good opportunity to get in the middle of a Dragic/Lowry trade. Dragic can veto any trade so he could strong-arm Miami into routing him some place he wants to go. THJ's salary would match. I would much rather have Dragic than THJ even at his advanced age. I think Luka and Dragic would love to play with each other before Dragic's career is done. These mega threads make it very difficult to find breaking news. Stein said on his podcast that he thinks it's extremely unlikely for the Mavs to trade KP, unless they're blown away with an offer that they can't refuse. Which is common sense. Also gives the vibe that unless they get a Giannis level player, they aren't trading KP. His chemistry with Luka is well documented and basically can play like a better Brunson with the starting unit. I think Kleber is one of, if not THE most important player outside Luka/KP. He'd be the last guy I'd trade in any scenario unless we're getting a superstar. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - Jason Terry - 03-14-2021 Maxi is underrated. Might be the best defender on the team. But his true value for us is he’s a “good enough” fit playing next to KP....... i.e. the front court partner with KP must be able to guard the perimeter and be a versatile defender(switchable, etc), must be an above average help defender in the paint, offensively be able to spread the floor, also rebound well enough..........it won’t be easy/cheap to find someone like that in trade/FA The backup 4 makes the most sense for a bang for our buck upgrade. If the Spurs keep dropping then maybe Gay/Lyles. Bjelica makes sense. Even a bought out OPj for more of a 3/4 role Any of those guys would fit with Powell/WCS RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - Jason Terry - 03-14-2021 Us being the 3rd team in a blockbuster Miami trade makes sense as well. Oladipo/Lowry going to Miami. Dragic to Dallas. Johnson and miami assets plus Dallas assets(2nd rounder) to Houston/Toronto. Dragic has veto power and could force his way here. It would give us the flexibility to trade Brunson or let THj/Dragic/JRich walk in FA. Gives us a vet leader. Would likely mean stretches of 3 guard lineups which Rick has had success with RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - Jason Terry - 03-14-2021 (03-14-2021, 02:43 PM)Mavs03 Wrote: I know he's having a down year but any interest in Aaron Gordon? Gordon is averaging 14 points 7 rebounds 4 assists. He's shooting 43% from the field, 37% from 3, and a paltry 63% from the FT line (he's a career 70% FT shooter). Orlando has lost 7 in a row. They're the 2nd worst team in the Eastern conference. I can't see Jonathan Isaac and Gordon coexisting next year when Isaac is back. Gordon has 1 year left on his deal (he'll be an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2022). I doubt Gordon will resign in Orlando. Could we do Johnson's expiring deal and 2025 1st round protected pick for Gordon? Maybe throw in a Josh Green or Tyrell Terry as a "sweetener"?Gordon makes a ton of sense as well for a buy low change of scenery player we could mold into a 3rd/4th star offensively. The Duffy connection is meaningful. I’m just not including a FRP for him. He seems like a top offseason priority guy. This summer he would be expiring and either Green, Terry and two 2nds gets it done or it doesn’t and we move on. Too risky when our future with KP is too uncertain. Got to keep our remaining 1st’s for that true star where we go all in(too early for that) RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - SamStetz - 03-14-2021 (03-14-2021, 09:25 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: The backup 4 makes the most sense for a bang for our buck upgrade ... I know that either one is still unlikely so the opportunity for both is even more unlikely) RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - Jason Terry - 03-14-2021 (03-14-2021, 09:53 PM)SamStetz Wrote: Signing a bought out OPJ would be such an amazing acquisition....doubt it happens only cause we’ve heard the Warriors tied to him, but that would be right up there with signing a bought out Drummond (would you do both if you could? He would fit best as the 3rd big and can’t start with KP, IMO. While the Lakers or other teams could guarantee he starts. I do think there’s possible trades that make sense. I’d do Drummond and Prince for Johnson, Powell, WCS, Green and a 2nd Luka/JR/DFS/Maxi/KP with a 4 man bench of: JB/THj/Prince/Drummond RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - SleepingHero - 03-15-2021 OPJ would start day 1 over DFS and honestly that'd be such a huge pickup. Dodo is a good role player, but I don't think he's good enough to garner 30mpg on a contending team. He's too inconsistent given that 95% of his shots are wide open spot up 3's RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - F Gump - 03-15-2021 (03-14-2021, 09:34 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: Dragic has veto power and could force his way here. Not that I think the Mavs are all that interested anyhow... But Dragic's veto power over a trade has already been negotiated away. There's a team option for another year at about $20M, and Miami can exercise that option and then trade him wherever they wish. The compensation to him is significant enough that it's all but certain that's the only way they would be able to trade him. It's possible that the added year at that price would lessen interest in him, of course. But that's the deal. He can be traded wherever MIA wants to trade him. But you are getting him for another year at a fairly hefty price tag. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - SleepingHero - 03-15-2021 Given how the Bulls are mulling over buying out OPJ, I wonder if the Mavs can swoop in and entice them with a deal. Mavs send: James Johnson+Dwight Powell+Tyrell Terry CHI: OPJ+WCJr I don't know if Wendell's value is this low, but the Mavs essentially replace Johnson with OPJ and turn Terry+Powell into WCJr. Doubt it happens but interesting. Just to add, if there is a way to add Lauri in there instead of WCJr, sign me up. Unfortunately I think the Bulls would want a guy like Maxi/THJ/JRich/ etc. And while those guys aren't anywhere close to Lauri, continuity is important and I wouldn't throw them in a trade like that. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - StepBackJay - 03-15-2021 WCJ's value is super low, I would definitely offer up one of our rookies (who's value is already questionable). RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - HanspardShowerVoice - 03-15-2021 Why are the Bulls just giving WCJ away for nothing rather than just giving him another year to develop under contract? He just posted a double double last night. He may be a bit of a disappointment, but he's not Mo Bamba just outright unplayable bad. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Spears: Mavs shopping KP | Stein: unlikely to trade - StepBackJay - 03-15-2021 (03-15-2021, 08:27 AM)HanspardShowerVoice Wrote: Why are the Bulls just giving WCJ away for nothing rather than just giving him another year to develop under contract? Sometimes teams panic. |
