RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - cow - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 03:47 PM)omahen Wrote: We should notice the patter. Every really good player that comes on the market someone goes all in. I guess we would have to be really lucky to get someone good on a discount. More likely it will take ALL our remaining assets. To clarify a bit, if the Mavs want him, they need to trade for him. I don't love our odds if Collins is going to have multiple max offers. They are already at the tax line and they would add another max player to the mix? I suspect this is from Collins agent, using MIN to generate interest in Collins. I just don't buy that MIN has a realistic shot there. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - HanspardShowerVoice - 03-12-2021 MacMullan inferred that Minnesota wants to trade for Collins really, really bad. But yes, they would have no problem offering him a max in free agency either. I suspect several teams will. Supply and demand in the talent market ultimately decides what a player is worth, and there's more demand for Collins caliber players than supply. If they don't make the playoffs next year and/or KAT walks or starts demanding a trade, Rosas and Scott Layden are probably fired immediately on the spot. They're not going to survive having to trade KAT. They blew the Wiggins + pick/D'Angelo trade. They blew the Jarred Culver trade up/pick. I don't think the Minnesota Ownership is in the mood for a never ending rebuild process while Rosas is blowing or trading off high draft picks. I don't know. I do know if they don't make the playoffs next year and/or KAT walks, Rosas and Scott Layden are probably fired immediately on the spot. What do they have to lose? How many rebuilding years do you think Minnesota ownership is willing to sit through when they haven't been competitive since they traded KG. Especially when they can't even rebuild when Rosas is trading off their draft picks. The million dollar question for Minny, before thinking about Collins, is if owner is prepared to pay tax for a team that might perhaps be good enough to make the playoffs. As they are right now, they have 128 mil of committed salaries for next season for 10 players. That is before the 2021 pick, which might end up with them anyway and bring in some 10 mil of additional salary. I am sure Rosas would love to have a 150 mil cap team to perhaps make the playoffs, but not so sure owners are willing to play along RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - StepBackJay - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 01:40 AM)Omega_Supreme Wrote: This OKC game is why the Mavs need a 3rd star Nope I wish Mavs had just signed Kemba outright. Celtics won't just give him away and if they were willing to do that I'd be nervous. In a world of endless minutes and endless payroll, perhaps - but that's not real life. There are enough minutes to go around. Mavs need scoring. Simmons speculates Dallas could give up Josh Green. Denver has more assets than Dallas because they could trade Gary Harris, Bol Bol and picks. Jackie McMullan says Jamal Murray tells her the Nuggets really need a rim protector to complement with Jokic, after losing Grant and Plumlee from last year's team. Why would anyone give up anything for Dipo when he can leave in a few months? If Mavs give up Green its because they already think he's a bust (which I don't think they believe that). My feeling is that Dipo is in the driver's seat here. His agent will say that here are the teams Dipo will resign with and that's going to be Houston's trade partners. I doubt Dallas is on that list. I feel like the Knicks will trade for him and then give him a max deal. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - KillerLeft - 03-12-2021 I try to consider everyone’s POV in these discussions, and lord knows I’ve been wrong as much as the next guy, but even the most staunch KP believers realize that his injury situation, combined with his contract, make for a difficult life for our Mavs. Why anyone would live through almost two years of that and want to double down by paying Victor Oladipo, whose injury status is just as bad if not worse, really has me scratching my head. I wouldn’t touch that dude if the Spurs were paying him to play here. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - cow - 03-12-2021 Let's not fight and embrace the love. I don't think its cherry-picking bro. Dipo is going to get a big contract bc the league thinks he's a lot more valuable than Frankie Smokes. I mean Frank is literally a 5 ppg career guy who was drafted top 10. Is he going to get even more than a vet min contract? I realize he plays defense but he's a JAG. We already have our Green here who has more upside "Frankly" (pun intended). Anyways just pointing out that Kamm gets too excited ab spares. Anyways just pointing out that Kamm gets too excited ab spares. Just comparing my love for Frank and my dislike for Dipo is comparing apples and oranges. I have wanted Frank as a reclamation project the last couple years to fill out the roster because he would be cheap and is only 22 still and has shown lots of defensive potential. I have not wanted Dipo because he has serious injury issues (and is probably past his prime), has only one great season in the league (which is now years ago), is not playing well this season (or last), and is looking for a giant contract. Look if Dipo wants to come to DAL as a reclamation project, cool I am in. But that isn't the context for him. Point is these are two very different conversations. Frank is your version of Lonzo. Unfortunately for me or rather the Mavs, Lonzo has really turned it around and is probably going to get a pay day that would make me think twice. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Jason Terry - 03-12-2021 Frankly Smokes for Burke, Iwundu and the removal of or pick protections He fits better as the 5th guard than Burke who is too similar to JB and THj. Both of which are physically limited defensively and best suited for their current roles long term PS- add back JJ with the extra roster spot. Get that team leader back and give him another retirement press conference after his second championship RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - KillerLeft - 03-12-2021 (03-12-2021, 10:31 PM)Jason Terry Wrote: Frankly Smokes for Burke, Iwundu and the removal of or pick protections Is he even in the rotation? The thing is, Dipo's play right now is still better than what we are getting from Josh Richardson and at times THJ. We need a sort of baseline consistency. THJ isn't that. JRich unfortunately isn't that either. Dipo has always put up around 18 ppg on around 42-45% shooting along with great defense. Plus his value is at an all time low, making him incredibly cheap relative to what other all-star level guys are going for. He would most likely walk which basically means the Mavs won't trade for him but still. Sure he has all the measurables and what-not. He's an interesting 12th man. But I will not be surprised if Frank is out of the league for good this summer and is back in Europe. Mostly due to sub-par 3pt shooting. I just don't see what this guy brings that we aren't getting with either JRich or THJ. Plus he thinks he deserves a BIG payday after this season. |
