Gotta love when an over-eager executive inserts the team into so many trade rumors that he eventually realizes that he sounds desperate and has to make up some lame line about generational talent to walk it back. What will be really funny is if the league fines him for tampering for mentioning specific names.

If it gives me the room to pursue Collins and I have a confidence that I can pair Wiseman and Collins with Luka?

Then yeah I think I do. BUT I think I still need one more asset with Wiseman because Wiseman is still a pretty big risk...he may NOT pan out.

I´d argue that KP is the bigger risk. He obviously is a better player right now but he is on a max deal and cannot stay healthy (hopefully that changes).

Hmmmmm, this is very interesting. When seeing the Chi rumor, my immediate thought was the WCJ/Mark/OPJ angle. When someone posted that, I wasn’t worried about doing it myself.

That becomes an overload of wings that I know you were clamoring for all offseason if you swap out Mark for PatWill (need WCJ in the deal to replace the lost C position).

If that was the case then the Bulls wouldn't be trying to conjure up fantasy trades to get KP.

My conclusion also.  I thought the same thing about the Oladipo to GS story.  It is an interesting game of cat and mouse which begs the question "why play cat and mouse if there isn't any there there"?

(03-08-2021, 09:29 PM)Kammrath Wrote: RE: Bulls trade for KP

I think the assets are....

Tomas Satoransky
WCJ
Lauri Markkanen
Patrick Williams
Future 1st

I personally need someone like Wiseman (a potential superstar if he develops right) if I am trading KP for unproven youth.

Ditto.  I find it harder to find a deal I like with Chicago.  I'm not convinced of Markkanen's star power yet, but I want his outside shot over what Carter brings.  I think Carter probably pairs better with KP anyway and they have another year before he gets paid.  So Markannen would be the outgoing or the two.  Fine, but I want Williams also and I don't see Chicago doing that.

If you don't have to take Wiggins, is the Warrior's pick enough to be that one more asset?  I don't care to use the pick necessarily, but it could be paired with one of our expiring players in another deal.  My position is if I have to take Wiggins, I want the Minny pick.  If I take Oubre, then I'll settle for the GS pick.

Edit:  Never mind on the GS pick.  I just read the new Bobby Marks article and he says GS can't trade its own pick for the next seven seasons.

Well shoot this really explains the impasse IMO.

  • For the Mavs: Wiseman + Oubre for KP is not enough.
  • For the Warriors: Wiseman + MIN 1st for KP is too much.
  • And basically there is no easy way to get a middle ground asset into the equation that balances things.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - dirkfansince1998 - 03-09-2021

I just don´t see any offer from teams like Washington or Chicago that would be worth it for the Mavs. They won´t give up their entire youth or mutliple future picks for KP. Westbrook, Beal and KP is not a championship core. Same for a team that is build around Lavine and KP. Outside of some prospects they don´t have a lot of guys that are interesting for the Mavs. Thad Young, Davis Bertans...solid role players but probably not even starters on a playoff team.

Warriors are a different story. They are still in win now mode and if Klay can recover from his injury some kind of all in trade for another star player makes sense.
They can easily match salaries and if they want to win in the next 2-3 years (Curry, Klay, Draymond window) they don´t have any use for a rookie like Wiseman.

Kings are my dark horse because they already have the guard talent (Fox, Haliburton). Adding a big with allstar potential makes sense. They have role players that are interesting for a team like Dallas (Hield, Barnes, Bjelica Holmes) and can easily use them to match salaries. They also have a former top 3 pick that plays the same position and could use a change of scenery.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Small side note for the Mavs:

I don´t think anyone has mentioned in the last few days but adding a  21 and/or 23 1st round pick in a potential KP trade would give them more flexibility in future trade talks.  Something to keep an eye on. Especially if KP recovers some of his value.

I'm not sure Mark's is correct on this.  If the GS pick (top 20 protected) does not convey in 21, it becomes the 21 Minnesota 2nd (currently the 31st pick).  GS has its 2022 first still.

I'd add Atlanta to the mix.  Something based around Collins/Bogdanovic

Sans Beal, or getting a 3rd team involved who wants Was younguns (Atl and Collins possibly, or Ind and Turner? Doubtful) I agree with Was.

Chi on the other hand is for sure a watering down of talent, but it’s younger talent that can be molded into the players needed to play next to Luka. Also, one of them could click here and become something more. They could also be a part of a 3 team trade that gets us our target(s).

Still would like to see a return of one of Turner or WCJ and one of Collins or AG. Turner and AG works for me, as does WCJ and Collins. I think Turner and Collins would be the holy grail in return and we might have to send out some other asset to make that work which I would not be opposed to depending on the amount of extra on court value.

If Mavs are giving up KP they are getting WCJ and Markkanen and OPJ.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - HanspardShowerVoice - 03-09-2021

The only player I see Chicago trading is Markkanen and OPJ, because they're both free agents and they won't put much effort into resigining so they might as well get something for them now.   Otherwise they have no incentive to really make a trade.   They're right where they want to be ... competing in a playoff spot in the East and rebuilding around a young core of LaVine (who is now a legit star) Patrick Williams and White.    They aren't forced into making a decision on WCJ now, so no need to sell him off when he's not going to bring much in return.

GSW...ATL...SAC...WAS...???

It is probably easier to find in the last few pages of the KP thread down below. If you are looking for the "news" elements of it.
