I would like a flyer on either Bagley or WCJ, and it feels like Bagley would be the more easily attained.

Sacto is probably not real happy with the progress Hield is making and Dallas could offer up great savings.

Hield and Bagley for Powell, Johnson, Green, a first that is top 6 protected/converts to a 2nd, cash, and a couple of 2nd rd picks

You also have the Life after Sacramento factor

Lots of guys leave that place and become all stars.

These are the types of moves we should be making and not waiting for super star signings

Are we really saying Bagley, WCJ, Hield are all giveaways? They are all top 6 lotto guys. I would take any of those guys if we are talking fire sale. I am skeptical that you could get any of those guys on the cheap.

Looking at which team might be stimulated to lose long term money for our expirings but I don't really see any good options.

Wow, Rosas is really doing a great job in Minny. They have 131 mil of active cap already for next season on 12 players only. If they get a top 3 pick they are in tax. This means they basically have to move Rubio, unless they shake the roster up by moving Towns or Russel. But I would not be taking Rubio salary without getting an asset. Problem is, Minny doesn't really have any assets outside their picks. Culver has been a disaster.

Unless Barton walks, Denver is basically at the tax line without resigning Millsap or MLE. Harris is certainly their worse contract and someone like Richardson would be much more manageable for them. But, what do you take as a prize? Hampton? Bol Bol? Pick? Not much there.

Portland is at 120 mil and they have to resign Collins and Gary Trent. Unless they are prepared to go deep in tax or unless they trade McCullom, they might really lose Trent in RFA. Would they take (for example) Green and draft consideration to avoid that?

Value wise:  Hield > WCJr > Bagley

Bagley's career has been a disaster value is so low that I'm not sure the Kings would pull the trigger.  Buddy has an elite skill and an attractive contract but is still pretty expensive for a guy with locker room and maturity issues.  WCJr is often hurt and certainly hasn't lived up to his draft status.  Bagley's the only one I'd consider at fire sale value.

Facundo Campazzo?

I am not saying that at all about anyone outside of Bagley. I think a 1st and Green combined with massive cap savings on Hield should be an offer that makes Sacramento ask if that is better than Hield is now.

BTW, I would consider taking on Barnes to get Bagley, if it meant keeping Richardson and THJ and ultimately Brunson.

A noble death. Though I wouldn't be too worried because the anti-Hield crowd has no sharpshooters so we're safe from a distance.

Man I'd love a Hield deal. I do wonder if they will try to just gather assets for Hield, Barnes and Bjelica. They have Haliburton and Fox which is a good young twosome. After selling off they could use their own draft pick + war chest to get a third young player then cap space to fill in with new players.

Barnes I bet goes to the Celtics. They could easily get him and he would raise their ceiling a bit.

As for Hield, ya man if you can get him for Green that is a good deal. I don't think his salary is bad especially once we see the contracts handed out this summer his deal is going to look good. The thing about Hield is that he makes THJ expendable or at least is a hedge if you can't keep both THJ and J Rich.

Hield is probably the most realistic guy you could get in terms of talent without giving up a lot in assets. Most of the trade ideas I see would be sort of lateral moves because they would require Mavs to give up a top 7 guy in return. Gallo is the other guy I am keeping an eye on in case Atlanta has buyer's regret and wants to just get off of his contract.

He can't lead a team anymore but he is going to do well for the Nets. He is like what the 5th option on offense. Their defense is an issue for sure but they will be tough to stop on offense. I think what you see with over-the-hill guys like Blake is that they can pull it together when they are in the playoffs on a contender. I think he will be a valuable addition.

He also means Drummond is probably not headed there. I have seen articles ab the Knicks trading for Drummond but I don't see how that's possible bc they don't have a large expiring to trade. They would have to piece together like 5 contracts which doesn't make sense.

I like the Mavs chances if Drummond gets bought out.

  1. Dallas Mavericks Receive: C Andre Drummond
  1. Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: C Dwight Powell, PF James Johnson, 2021 and 2022 second-round picks
  1. "The Dallas Mavericks could look at Drummond both as a win-now piece and a way to clear salary-cap space for the 2021 offseason.Dallas ranks 27th in total rebound percentage this season (48.0 percent), as it chose the quantity-over-quality approach when it comes to filling the center position. Since Kristaps Porzingis returned to the lineup in mid-January, the Mavs have been even worse (29th overall, 47.5 percent).Drummond could impose his will on the boards and would provide Luka Doncic with a reliable lob target. He also fits alongside Porzingis, whose offensive game is more perimeter-based.Getting off Powell's contract would be important as well. The 29-year-old has two years and $22.2 million remaining on his contract after this season and hasn't looked the same while returning from an Achilles injury. Dallas would clear $11.1 million in cap space next season with this trade, which it could spend on Victor Oladipo, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry or use to re-sign Drummond if the partnership works out.For Cleveland, Johnson would be a likely buyout candidate, while Powell would become the backup to Jarrett Allen. While the Cavs would lose out on some cap space" next year, they'd collect a pair of second-round picks.
This is a Cleveland writer.  Tempted just for the DP part.  Like the Conley idea!

Interesting.  Cleveland paid a second for Drummond.  Here they get two.  You can look at that as two PLUS Powell or as the second second is compensation for taking Powell.  Powell in a backup role to Allen playing alongside either Love or Nance makes sense.

Schwartz is the agent for Powell, Drummond, Love and Osman.  It would certainly be in his best interest to get Drummond a better showcase than Cleveland.  Can this work next to KP?  Probably better than Powell is currently working.  Can you instead use the cap room?  Depends on the plan for JRich and THJ.  Might you put a more mobile PF next to Drummond in place of KP?  Yes, but you give up the rim protection that KP is supposed to be giving you.

Man Mavs would do a Powell for Drummond trade all day long. Surprised a Cleveland writer would be on board with that idea.

while I appreciate Drummond, I doubt seriously that his agent is going to try to get him to Dallas for a reduced role...

What about the latest rumors that Larry Nance Jr is available?  Drummond is definitely stat sexy, but I wonder if LNJr isn't a better fit.

There are other versions out here.  One adds Terry to the deal Hypermav posted.  There is another that sends THJ/Powell to Cleveland and we take back Drummond and Osman.

The Osman for Powell piece seems more fair financially.  He'd be on a very reasonable contract if he was any good.  He'd be a total projection here having never played on a very good team outside of his rookie season when he was decent in limited minutes.  Still, if this slot is destined to be the backup SF, would you rather have Osman at $8mm or THJ in the mid-teens.

I really don't see him going to the Nets.  I mean he could, but I think the Lakers and Heat would be in the mix too.  Clears waivers today, so we'll soon find out.
