RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - DrMav - 03-02-2021

I hope so. Would be better to match a high offer then look to trade him if they really didn’t want him at a high price long term.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Fuerza1 - 03-02-2021

Listening to Karalla and Skin, the two biggest homers you can find, tried their darnest to sugarcoat the entire KP fiasco and even they had to add some caveats like "but yeah, if they do trade KP, it would be for equal value" to febreeze their bs lol. KP is definitely on the market.

I like the Myles Turner idea, keeping a close eye on the Pacers to keep failing. I'd do it for him + McDermott straight up, maybe you can squeeze another asset. Mavs can throw in Tyrell Terry as filler.

Yeah, I think the possibility of him not being on the market is really, really, really low.

That doesn't mean the Mavs pull the trigger on trading him, but I think the Mavs are making him readily available if a team offers the right price.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Fuerza1 - 03-02-2021

For those wanting to trade Brunson because you're afraid of the high dollar he may command, is the feeling mutual in regards to Dorian Finney-Smith, who will surely take the highest amount offered to him after the discount he just settled for? Is he a legit starter on a championship team? The Mavs are after all not a "good team" with him playing a significant role thus far.

THJ will be an UFA this summer, same with Richardson (most likely). How much are you willing to pay them?

Instead of letting these guys walk, should we package all 4 and get the best deal we can before we potentially lose them for nothing?

DFS is under contract and I expect Mavs to decline Brunson's option to make him an RFA. He should have a pretty reasonable cap hold. I am not worried ab Brunson going anywhere.

THJ and J Rich are very much in the air. No idea what to pay them or whether the Mavs want to keep them. I could see 1 or both getting traded or 1 of both retained this summer.

The million dollar question is whether or not KP is a locker room problem or high maintenance player. I think Mavs can work through issues with his conditioning and all that stuff but if he's unhappy then I think he's getting traded sooner or later.

If he is unhappy I think we are going to start hearing about it more in the media leading up to the TDL. So far all we have is that one report confirmed by Spears but denied by Rick and Cubes.

I am convinced he absolutely is at this point. I think all the tea leaves point toward it. I think the Mavs rehab his value and trade him either this TDL (if the right deal comes along) or far more likely this summer.

Ya that is my thought as well.

That's the same as saying he is not available.

Being on the market in the NBA gets you a package like Holiday or Harden fetched, but that's not what the Mavs are looking for. They need a very good player and then some at the very least.

Indeed but when these star players want out they get out (Holiday was a different situation obviously).

To me these are the potential suitors (not confirmed so who knows):

1. Washington would (should?) offer up a Holiday-like all-in package to land KP bc why wouldn't they?
2. GS could offer a Wiseman-based package to exchange a young talent for a win-now player to fit their championship window.
3. Atlanta could offer a package of Collins and other pieces to pair KP with Trae. Even if ATL doesn't necessarily believe this as a long-term fit they could see it as an asset management move.

There could be other teams but those teams those teams were at least linked to the Mavs recently (WS, GS linked directly to KP, ATL only linked bc of Dallas interest in Collins).

1. That move is just missing some flesh on the bone. They are missing a semi-star to fill it up.

2. If they were ready to give up Green+Wiseman+the Minny-pick I can see the Mavs listening, but ....

3. Same here, they have the flesh (Collins) but I can't see them offer the bone (enough assets to make JJohnson into Myles Turner).

And then the MBT and Luka have to be convinced KP is either never healthy or not manageable at all.

I mean doesn't this statement apply to anyone besides Luka...? (And it only doesn't apply to Luka because there is no asset in the NBA that can come close to matching him).

Yes. Let me clarify.

I believe the Mavs WANT to move KP (not that they are just "open" to it), but they also don't want to set themselves back asset and talent wise by moving him. I think they are actively shopping him trying to get the best return they can, probably with ongoing conversations or ideas with 4+ GMs (and I am guessing with an eye to trading him this summer).

Just my read of the situation.

I doubt seriously that the Mavs have him on the market.  It's more about someone else being afraid of what KP/Luka might become and trying to drive a wedge in the organization, especially knowing that KP has been burned in NY and has gotten disgruntled before...

If there's a better fit with Luka that is available and someone more durable injury-wise, I'm all for it, but right now, I dont' see it.

Also, all this we can get the entire overpriced average joe roster of a .400 team (minus any major talent) for KP and a bag of cheese is about as stupid as it gets.   (Lambchops Washington and the guys from the Y...come on.)  I sincerely hope that the MBT isn't that stupid.

Yeah from my seat I see this as a less than 1% possibility. Seems completely far-fetched to me.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Mavs2021 - 03-02-2021

I would be all over a Washington package. Bryant,Hachimura,Smith,Bonga, 2021 1st, 2021 Pistons 2nd, 2023 (the Wizards keep the pick if in lottery and send it to Mavs) or otherwise 2025 1st. By 2025 Porzingis and Westbrook are broken and Beal is gone. I'd bet this would look like highway robbery in 12 months, but maybe Washington would be desperate enough to go into win now mode. With that war chest we can make a play for Lavine and sign a (defensive)centre to complement Bryant.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - Mavs2021 - 03-02-2021

I would bet on the fact that Hachimura and Bryant improve significantly in the next 24 months. Bonga, too.

That makes 1 of you and me...It amazes when people think that picking up half the roster of rotation players from a sub .500 team and trading them for a 20-10 type of scorer just makes everyone better.

a)  As much as I don't like that trade for the Mavs, I also don't Washington giving the Mavs multiple 1sts for KP as his current value stands.
b)  If all those players are about to take off and this will look like a steal, don't you think that Washington's FO and coaching staff can see that also?

No way...not buying it.  We'll just agree to disagree on that.

I'm with Bama on this. ESPECIALLY after seeing KP start to be closer to what we are wanting him to look like. I think time only ups the value. If a trade needs to happen, I hope it's in his injury free, fresh off a great 1st round showing (if not a 1st round win) offseason.

I would want a Jrue like package which I think the Mavs could get. That would include multiple 1st round picks and pick swaps along with some collection of players. I think we underestimate KP's market value around here.

If I am Washington I would jump at the chance to add a third star which also helps me keep the main star I want to keep around which is Beal. The clock is ticking on Beal before he demands a trade. Even if they give up the store they could easily fill in role guys around Beal, KP & Westbrook. If it doesn't work out you just sell them off and start over. It's a better plan than just staying mediocre.

For the Mavs you don't want to take a step back even if it's for only half a season but depending on how much of a problem KP is, they might pull the trigger. Otherwise they could do this (or any other deal) in the summer and then also reload using cap space.
