I really thought he would get a lot of looks like this and he never does except sometimes at the beginning of games like Dirk used to get.

His shooting numbers don´t justify plays like this. He has one outlier season (48 games, 39.5%/4.8 3PA) of above average shooting. Overall he has been right around or slightly below league average from 3 (Career 35.7%). Midrange shooting is slightly above average but 40-45% aren´t enough to get plays called for him. Might be a different story if he would at least draw fouls but that´s not the case.

The problem I'm seeing is that he's really not a threat to get around his defender when he has the ball.  He had that one play in the post against Harden that ended up a Dunk and then a play tonight against Vucevic on the perimeter that ended up a contested layup and free throws.  That just gives defenders the green light to crowd him and take away his airspace.  It's probably why he's so trigger happy any time he see day light at 27+ feet out.

On the plus side, he did swing the ball twice when he was fairly wide open for better opportunities (THJ passed out of the second one).

Watching the Magic I do not understand why Bamba isn´t at least the first big of the bench. Yes he is raw but without any playing time that won´t change. It´s not like the Magic are contending. They are 13-22 in the eastern conference (only 4 teams with a winning record).
If the Magic have no interest I would be really interested in some kind of buy low move.

WCS + 2 2nds --> Mo Bamba

That almost seems expensive for Bamba.  He's at 18 (over 50%) DNPs for the season.  For giggles:

Yep.  Same thing in the post.  Guys can crowd him without being scared he'll get past them.

Interestingly enough, JRich is putting out about the same amount of PPG as Seth did in his time here. Albeit with much poorer efficiency which is the sticking point.

But JRich's defense in my opinion more than makes up for the difference in efficiency. Dude is really a fantastic defender and has a moment at least once every 2 games that makes me go "wow".

I miss Curry a lot, but JRich was a good consolation prize.

Certainly no one on the Magic roster is worth trading Brunson for.

Any proposal for trading Brunson should include a followup on how you're replacing his 17.5 PER and ability to QB the offense and how much you're  paying for that replacement.    Because the going market rate is probably over 21+ million per season.

Man I'd love a flier on Bamba.

I am all in on JB as Mavs 2nd core player to Luka. He is our CJ McCollum. I have been on board with JB from day one. I remember myself and JSW noticing almost immediately that JB was clearly better than DSJ when he joined the team. JB is just too important a player to trade. Whatever you get back is not going to be as good imo bc its not like you are going to get Giannis or something back in a trade that moves JB.

Put me in the camp that JB is "virtually" untouchable. Luka and JB are the foundational pieces. KP could be moved in the right scenario. DFS and Maxi are both great glue role guys who I would not want to trade absent a very good deal. Again I have a hard time believing what you would be getting back would be as good as those guys. THJ, J Rich are good players but I am okay if they get moved.

Fournier would be a really nice piece but there will be a lot of suitors for his talents.

I think you are under rating FVV defense.  He at least near elite.  Due to his strength and anticipation he can guard 2s and even 3s.  He is a better perimeter defender than anything we have (including JRich).

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - HanspardShowerVoice - 03-02-2021

Looks like Fournier is going to hit the jackpot twice.   Once when he hit free agency in 2016 right after a new CBA drastically raised the cap ceiling and he got in on that Nic Batum/Hassan Whiteside/Evan Turner/Kent Bazemore/Alan Crabbe/Bismack Biyombo gold rush where everyone had cap space to spend.    Now he's going to hit again after so many teams had cleared out cap room for a prospective bumper FA class that dried up before it even started.

Don't think it was that great of an audition for Vuc.  Other than health, the most complaints I have seen about KP this year is his defense.  I agree with the sentiment that the most important function of your center is to be a defensive anchor.  I don't see that with Vuc.  He is not a rim protector and he slower of foot than KP.  Dallas was killing them in the paint.  After watching this game, I am not interested in the proposed KP for Vuc trade.  Vuc is a very good versatile offensive player, but he is not what this team needs for defense.

You know who else had a good audition for the Mav’s...Kelly Oubre.

Ya I agree with that sentiment. When they get Isaac back (along with Gordon) they can have a decent defense. Vuc will still get picked on defensively, especially in the playoffs. I think KP's ceiling is higher defensively because we have seen it before.

That's true, I suppose. His shooting makes me REALLY nervous, though I'd much rather build a Wiseman/KP deal with Oubre than with Wiggins, if at all possible.

Yes me too. I think Luka, Brunson, DFS, Maxi, Wiseman as your core squad with cap space to fill in around that will work. Not a lot of realistic superstar options this offseason but I think MBT have the tools to fill in around that pretty good core group of players.

RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Marc Spears: Mavs are shopping KP - vfromlmf - 03-02-2021

Just conjecture but Carlisle's post-game pandering of KP's "floor game" seemed really disingenuous to me. I watched KP closely all night. I don't think he played all that well. Maybe his ability to shoot changed the game in ways I didn't notice. I don't know.

I just don't like seeing him jack up threes all night. 15 shots, 10 threes, many early in the shot clock.

KP isn't a strong roll-man. That's a skill. It's all about how to screen and angles. WCS isn't very good either. Explains why Powell enters the game and immediately gets lobs.

For the most part, Kleber handled the toughest defensive assignment. KP just didn't seem to make much of a defensive impact.

I think a strong "floor game" requires defensive impact, deflections, screens, ball movement, timely & efficient scoring.
