RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 12-13-2020 (12-13-2020, 03:28 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Someone? SOMEONE?? FIFY Sorry, was too lazy to look it up. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-13-2020 I also like LaVine. Hield potentially as scorers that could help this team. Hield would be the cheapest in terms of salary since he's already locked up. LaVine is going to require a large contract soon so I would be nervous ab giving up assets and having to shell out a bunch of money for him. I like Harris being able to score from that SF/PF position. He would fit well in this offense. The best part of it would be dumping Powell's contract which probably won't ever happen bc Rick thinks Powell is the next Dirk or something. Much rather go after guys like Gordon or OPJ. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 12-14-2020 I think Harris and OPJ would be really great upgrades to Powell, THJ and DFS in the starting lineup. Assuming a Harris for THJ/Powell package and OPJ for DFS/snt Lee type package. Luka/JB JRich/Burke OPJ/Green Harris/Kleber KP/WCS Would be a team the could get HCA in year 1 and once they get some time and experience under their belt would contend. Third team of Hinson/Terry/Iwundu/Bey/Boban could be really good and VERY young insurance. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 12-14-2020 (12-14-2020, 06:32 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: I think Harris and OPJ would be really great upgrades to Powell, THJ and DFS in the starting lineup. Assuming a Harris for THJ/Powell package and OPJ for DFS/snt Lee type package. Good luck with getting both of those guys. I think the best we are looking at is landing one guy. And, it may cost us more than one guy depending on who that one guy is. Harris and OPJ are among the obvious candidates. Gianis, Gobert, Gordan and oG all make sense to me (The G's...ironically, Grant and Gallinari were also G's and we reportedly made an effort for Gasol). Other than an overpay for John Collins, what else is there. And how many of those guys are clear upgrades? Remember the path to many of those guys means giving up THJ and Powell...at least. We'll know more about Gianis within about a week. Teams aren't going to give up Harris, Gordon or Grant just because we want them to. If Giannis is gone, then maybe we are gunning for Gobert, oG and Collins as free agents. Once you accept the premise that JRich is your SG going forward, the field of possibilities narrows. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-14-2020 OPJ would be a nice pickup, I wonder if that's a trade deadline deal you can make. Mavs could send THJ, Johnson and 2 seconds maybe to Bulls who aren't going anywhere for OPJ. That would be awesome and you'd get an extended look at him. Starting lineup: Luka, Rich, OPJ, Powell, KP. OPJ moves DFS to the bench most nights unless Rick wants to go small with DFS over Powell. And it's Powder friendly! Mavs could just stay over the cap and resign OPJ, Rich + use MLE on another player, along with the BAE. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 12-14-2020 (12-14-2020, 09:31 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: Mavs could send THJ Unless THJ is totally useless, I don't see any sense in making this TDL deal for half a year rental. I think there is a very marginal difference in the Luka-JRich-Powell-Kp lineups with THJ or OPJ. Not worth another good contract and 2 seconds. Not like OPJ is a star. The only thing that could make sense for him would be to go with Johnson and Powell. At this stage of Mavs development, (remaining) future picks have no value for me so add whatever you think necessary. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-14-2020 I like OPJ way more than THJ on paper altho its hard to predict what each player looks like going into the TDL. Right this second tho I would definitely do OPJ for a rental before handing him a big contract next summer. OPJ gives you offense and defense. I like his position flex as well. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 12-14-2020 (12-14-2020, 10:25 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: I like OPJ way more than THJ on paper altho its hard to predict what each player looks like going into the TDL. Once again - giving up THJ for OPJ is a marginal improvement. It doesn't make us much better. Giving up Johnson (with any bench guys and picks, preferably Powell) for OPJ while keeping THJ makes us much, much better. You can easily field Luka-THJ-JRich-OPJ-KP lineup. That is a five out lineup that would just bombard the opponent from three. They basically wouldn't have any other chance but keep one of our guys completely open and hope he will miss those shots. Most likely Luka would be guarded by opposing centre. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-14-2020 @"omahen" I don't know how you can say THJ for OPJ is a marginal improvement. For one they play a different position. OPJ is more of a true small forward. I like him being another 3D guy in the lineup. J Rich and THJ are both kind of SG / SF hybrids and maybe a bit redundant. I think J Rich will prove to be a better backcourt fit with Luka. OPJ to me is like a better version of DFS altho I would be happy to have both he and DFS on the team. In terms of marginal improvement, maybe he is maybe he isn't but that's why you get a close look at him for a few months before FA hits. We sort of know what THJ is at this point and will know even more at the TDL. Giving up 2nds for a player you want to consider in FA is not a big deal at all. You would much rather do that then spend a lot of money sight unseen on a player if given the option. I would love to give up Powell I just think the thing we keep coming back to is a) Rick/Mavs love Powell and b) he doesn't have a lot of value outside of the Mavs. For those 2 reasons its hard for me to put Powell in any of our fake trades. Fits among the starters in a way that neither Wright nor Curry could Repeatability of THJ's 19/20 shooting: Too early to tell Did we get anything useful for the current season in the draft: Green's early returns with second unit are very promising Is WCS really a changed man with an improved overall game: If this continues, there's another $4mm in salary we don't have in 21 as we will definitely want to pick up that option. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - ClutchDirk - 12-15-2020 My overreaction is that we have the deepest best bench in the League and KP is still not able to start yet so eventually the bench gets even deeper...love the Burke Brunson combo...also Mavs can evaluate talent even though that may not be a popular opinion... RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 12-15-2020 I think that Green and one other guy who expects to play aren't going to play very consistently, especially when KP comes back. Green is a rookie, so it won't bother him or anyone else so much, but who's that other guy gonna be? Johnson? WCS? It's not going to be Powell, that's for sure. As of right now there is no way to justify Powell as a starter or high minute player. That obviously won´t stop RC from giving him minutes. Overall I think that the Mavs will have at least 1-2 guys missing all season long. Maybe more depending on the COVID situation. Meaning that every single guy on the roster (even the rookies) will get a chance to prove himself in a bigger role. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 12-15-2020 (12-15-2020, 09:17 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: I think that Green and one other guy who expects to play aren't going to play very consistently, especially when KP comes back. It will be really interesting to see who will get out of the starting unit once KP returns. It might be totally possible, this will be Powell as Mavs want to keep three switchable wings next to KP and Luka. We have seen against Milwaukee that rebounding wasn't a problem at all as Mavs actually won the rebounding battle Imagine KP instead of Powell on offense - Lopez would be basically useless as one of the Mavs would be totally open on perimeter all the time. Mavs are incredibly deep on the bench. This is great as it will not be difficult to say goodbye to a couple of guys for improvements in the starting unit. As for Powell - it is important he is playing. His contract is becoming less negative with every game. While his individual numbers aren't impressive it is clear he has a positive impact on the team. Despite missing KP, Mavs had no problems against the "mighty" Milwaukee. As for rotation, I think the starting pecking order is quite clear after first two preseason games and I don't expect much changes before KP returns. It is fair that a little bigger sample is collected before making big conclusions. First major change will be made once KP returns (one guy will fall out of starting five to second unit and one guy to third unit). Of course there will be rests, injuries, perhaps COVID, where other guys will get their chance. 1. Luka 2. JRich 3. THJ 4. DFS 5. Powell 6. Kleber 7. Brunson 8. Burke 9. Johnson 10. Green 11. WCS (currently looking better than Johnson but on extremely small sample - might be used against big centers of Phoenix, LAC and LAL). I mean, surely it's just that you and Rick disagree, right? Or maybe I'm misreading what you're saying. |
