Luka + Brunson was worse than the Mavs overall by -2.1. It is a relatively small sample size though. Would be a really tough sell to allocate even more money into the frontcourt than we already have. Especially when it comes to non-shooting big men. Would be a signing to get an asset, not really another piece to build with. UNLESS you view him as a Powell-replacement. They signed Dwight with smth in mind. If he never comes back from the injury then I guess Harrell would be a replacment + then some. But meh. I'd offer the full MLE knowing that won't be enough. Non-starter idea to me all things considered (I don't see them giving up on Powell). We should focus on other players. People get so caught up in the playoffs that I think getting him is buying low (very low) after he got cooked by Boban/Jokic. His regular season numbers are great and he went through a lot (death/not playing bball for 4 months). Unfortunately I feel it's just a rumor.(09-26-2020, 03:56 PM)KillerLeft Wrote:Lol, understandable I guess.(09-26-2020, 02:52 PM)aguiar95 Wrote: Anyone saw this? They quote Sam Amico who has Dallas as one of four teams with interest. Harrell will get more than MLE, so S&T at some level would be required. Wright gets him to $14mm. Might make sense to add WCS if he opts in. “Dallas is slightly more logical. Harrell would be a nice complement to the floor-spacing Kristaps Porzingis (or Maxi Kleber on bench units), though playing him next to Boban Marjanovic would be a non-starter. The Mavericks were rumored to be looking for a bit more toughness, and Harrell fits that mold. Plus, Dallas has a surplus of guards for Harrell to run pick-and-roll with. Commenter teddygreen suggested a Harrell for Delon Wright sign-and-trade, which would give the Clippers an additional playmaker and rescue Wright from the fringes of Rick Carlisle’s rotation. However, the Mavericks are close to title contention and might be scared away from Harrell’s playoff woes, much like the Clippers. Their cap space would be better put to use on a wing, perhaps someone who could guard a player like Kawhi Leonard.” RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-26-2020 I hate it. My hate for it is visceral, all encompassing and goes on without end, farther than any eye could hope to see. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 09-26-2020 (09-26-2020, 06:38 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I hate it. My hate for it is visceral, all encompassing and goes on without end, farther than any eye could hope to see. So, not Plan A for you? Harrell is a Rich Paul guy and I can’t recall us having a Rich Paul guy other than the time Noel switched to Paul. That doesn’t preclude it necessarily. I don’t think we will enter the season with KP, Maxi, Powell and Boban as our only bigs. I wasn’t expecting us to spend $15mm on a big, but I expect us to have something more (even if it is WCS). I’m not a believer in the idea that we have to play 5 out all the time or that KP has to play C. We need to be able to put several different looks out there. Harrell isn’t as good on the perimeter as Powell or Maxi, but he’s a very good interior defender. He also has a post game that no current Mav has. Just another way to score when you need a bucket. I do wonder how we guard the perimeter if KP and Harrell are in together. But, an offense of KP, Harrell, DFS, THJ and Luka will be impossible to stop. LAC is a team that could actually use Wright. If the cost of someone as productive as Harrell is just Wright (or Wright and Willie), I’m in. We still have out picks and MLE. I’d want to try to ship Jackson and one of our picks to Cleveland for Cedi and retain the other pick. Fills out the top 10 on the roster with a bench of Maxi, Powell, Cedi, Curry and Brunson. I get that a Harrell/Cedi/Pick probably isn’t at the top of most people’s lists, but it is improvement and it is certainly depth. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Hypermav - 09-26-2020 I would rather get Christian Wood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7DKSRrmCws&ab_channel=CoachDaniel RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Scott41theMavs - 09-26-2020 (09-26-2020, 07:48 PM)DanSchwartzman Wrote:(09-26-2020, 06:38 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I hate it. My hate for it is visceral, all encompassing and goes on without end, farther than any eye could hope to see. Harrell can't start in this league, because he's too little to guard centers and too slow to guard fours. That's why 6th men of the year come off the bench. The five starters need to be defenders (looking at you, THJ), even Luka eventually. Or, more precisely, as KL says, "two-way players." We have enough bench players making starter-like money. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Jason Terry - 09-26-2020 (09-26-2020, 07:48 PM)DanSchwartzman Wrote:Pretty much this. If we can get an asset for nearly free we should always look into it. This would be one way of doing it. Use 18 to get another player. Then sign someone with the MLE. We need to make our assets go far this offseason. More about getting the best talent in and then let Rick decide who does what. Maybe we feel Harrell is coachable? Doc didn’t do much of that. Still not one of the best options(09-26-2020, 06:38 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I hate it. My hate for it is visceral, all encompassing and goes on without end, farther than any eye could hope to see. Might be just doing rich paul a favor. OG just signed with him and sign me up for a max of that RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Dirkster21 - 09-26-2020 (09-26-2020, 08:12 PM)Hypermav Wrote: I would rather get Christian Wood.Yeah. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-27-2020 I can't believe we're living in a world wherein mavs fans (MAVS FANS) are trying to justify clearing cap to sign Montrez Harrell...to their team, the Mavericks. Who they hope are BETTER next year. I hate you all. #thanks2020 I would rather go grab Delonte West off of that corner where he's panhandling and give him the MLE so he can afford a place to live and some food. I mean that in the absolute most serious way I possibly can. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 09-27-2020 (09-26-2020, 08:25 PM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: Harrell can't start in this league, I don't agree with number one. I do agree that if you are going to pay him $15-$16 million, it is because you envision him starting. I think there are challenges to having him guard the perimeter. Those same challenges exist at C also. If a team wants to ISO you they are going to do it. But next to KP, you at least have a rim protector backing him up. I'm less worried about the one on one matchups with most PF's. Many are catch and shoot types. He's certainly a better option than Powell in terms of guarding the bigger guys like A. Davis. No one really guards Lebron or Leonard, but Harrell competes hard. But, imagine the Offense. Harrell would be un-guardable with all the space he'd have here. He has a fantastic PnR and cut game, but can also post up or even face his man up and take him off the dribble. He also has a decent floater game. Imagine all the good things Powell does off cuts and in PnR and then add a TON to that. The team has said it would like another 15 ppg scorer. This would provide it. I know I'm killing Killer here, but this is one of those deals I can actually see happening. I've been reading some Clipper stories and there is a feeling they won't be able to afford Harrell. WCS is mentioned as an inexpensive replacement and their biggest need is a playmaking guard (starter or bench). Wright/WCS for Harrell is actually something I could see happening. And it doesn't cost any draft picks. And what if Milwaukee decides it needs to get some return for Giannis at the TDL rather than waiting until the summer. Milwaukee is another place (because of Lopez) where you could start Harrell and he's a big enough name that you could sell Bucks fans. Harrell plus THJ? I'll get sold on 50 different plans over the course of the off season. I'm not willing to dismiss this based on how he was used elsewhere. Yes, he has some holes, but the value of possibly getting him for peanuts is hard to ignore. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 09-27-2020 holy fuck if they pay Harrell $15 million after paying Powell, I might have to find a new team to root for RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 09-27-2020 (09-27-2020, 02:11 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: I do agree that if you are going to pay him $15-$16 million, it is because you envision him starting. I am in the "I don't think it is smart to pay Harrel 15 per", at least as long as Powell is here. If he is willing to come for MLE, I would do it. I would have to figure out a way to like him...at least he is not a Morris twin. Maybe Harrell will end up in Houston. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-27-2020 Luka deserves better than us. We are the worst fans on Earth. HARRELL DOESN'T EVEN BRUSH HIS TEETH! RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - aguiar95 - 09-27-2020 Saw someone on reddit saying this: "Im pretty sure Cuban and the Mavs did some forward planning with a company that big. 2023 is a big pivotal year for the Mavs. Carlisle's contract is up for renewal during that year. KP's big max contract has a player option in 2023. Powell, Curry and Maxi all come off the books during that year as well. So technically the Mavs have up until then to figure it out, and if not they can always scrap everyone except Luka and start over. I'm sure there will be superstars who will take 1+1 deals in 2021 which will make them FAs in 2023 again. But as of today, both Jokic and Embiid are UFA in 2023. if KP cant play 82 games by then, I would like to think the organization might prefer to go a different route. Maybe take one of those two centers, and still have space for one more max. Luka and Jokic on the same team would be Harlem Globetrotter levels of passing. You need to add some defense there though. These two have been good friends even before the NBA bubble too." RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-27-2020 Ok, so I just watched a Harrell highlight video from the regular season. Skinny, in shape Harrell is better than fat, can barely move Harrell, like in the playoffs. I guess. Still, all of his points come on dunks, and he can barely reach the rim. The numbers seem to say that he's an effective player, and he's very young, but...I don't know what it is, I'm just having trouble getting excited about this one. If they do this, at least half of this guy's salary needs to be tied up in "treadmill time" bonuses. |
