RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - KillerLeft - 11-22-2020 Guys, guys, guys....it's over with Gobert. Stop talking about Gobert, please. CAN Gobert and KP coexist on the court? OF COURSE!! Is it a good idea to have those two players taking up 60% of your cap long term, FORCING you to play that way as much as possible? OF COURSE NOT! Is Gobert (or KP, for that matter) a possible future trade asset? Yes, of course, but do we REALLY expect that the Mavs are thinking this way as a reason to acquire a player who wants to get a max offer NEXT SUMMER, and will likely be very upset not to immediately begin talks about this five minutes after his arrival here? Please. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - Jommybone - 11-22-2020 I’ve been thinking rather than posting mostly. Which is equally dangerous for me. But here it goes finally: Zero chance Giannis stays in Milwaukee long-term. Zero. Zip. None. When has anyone ever stayed in Milwaukee? And why would you? Utah isn’t a bad city. Milwaukee is. Giannis won’t be a Buck much longer. Or at least, there’s no logical reason to believe he will. What happens when a backwater franchise (like Orlando) gets a big-time star (like Shaq)? Or New Orleans? And Anthony Davis? We all know the answer, right? Giannis will be a Laker. Or a Warrior. Or maybe a Heat (Hottie?). Or perhaps, just possibly, he could be a Mav. Unlike the usual star-crossed, unrequited, would-be lovers we have all dreamed about, this big fish is gonna get landed. By someone. I guarantee it. Don’t see why it couldn’t be the Mavs. And this off-season convinces me the Mavs are thinking similar thoughts. *not about Gobert RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - cow - 11-22-2020 I think it would be wise to start thinking and framing discussions around the future of the Mavs as Luka instead of Luka and KP. I hope that's what the MBT are doing anyway. And that's why I will not dismiss the Gobert idea out of hand. We are probably closer to "backwater franchises" than we are to destination cities like LA, NY or Miami (Boston too I guess, but that's an awful place to live). That's why we should hope Giannis stays to give us hope that Luka might as well. Don't expect Luka to have Dirk's patience. Now, that's a separate conversation, and one worth having, but honestly, until another serious injury sets KP back, I prefer him by quite a large margin. I see pulling AD out of the paint as a very important part of the blueprint to beat that Lakers defense over the next 5 years. Another serious injury might be too late. I love KP but he's never given any evidence that he can play a full NBA season. A lot of my thinking is going to be frame around the recent Klay injury, but I'd honestly try to cash in on KP's worth when he comes back and returns to form. Yes, his second injury was to his other leg and was a contact injury. Some guys are just unlucky and that might be the case with him but that's two knee injuries and lower leg injuries usually lead to more lower leg injuries. This line of thinking has noting to do with Gobert. Mavs are not going to get a traditional starting center next to KP. KP is the center and next to him needs to be a stretch 4 that plays good defense. What does KP having injuries have anything to do with playing him next to a center? KP injuries just mean you need good depth. The league has changed. Rick had embraced 5 out basketball. On defense you have to have perimeter defense. You can't have KP chasing guys on the perimeter. I would argue he has a better chance of getting injured there than inside banging against the handful of traditional starting bigs left. At any rate it's done. There will be no Capella, no Adams, no Gobert. It's not happening if KP is on this team. If KP ever gets moved sure it's possible Mavs could have 1 rim roller type. But KP is here for the forseeble future so no Gobert. KP is a star, Giannis is a superstar. Other superstars I would also be interested in. Unfortunately KPs injury risk is something other teams are aware of. Now you trade KP at some point for Beal or somebody then let's talk about a Gobert type. I am still of the mind though that the center position has changed. I think you can get by with a committee center situation absent a unicorn player like KP. I would much rather spend my assets on wings if given the choice. So context matters here a bit too. KP came in thin and never really bulked up. That's a recipe for nagging injuries. And he had them. He's alot better place now physically. And then he had a serious injury on his knee. A bit of a fluke on the type of play but it happens. So one thing to know about major knee injuries is that it's EXTREMELY common to injure your other knee/leg within the first few years. It's so hard to have your legs/muscles not compensate for injury. More than likely KP's current injury is a direct result from his previous knee injury. The Klay achilles is likely a result from his knee injury. I'd have to dig for some sources on this. But Stephanie Bell with ESPN has discussed this extensively over the years on the Fantasy focus podcast. Perhaps they aren't related but I can't help but notice there was swelling on the opposite knee multiple times during the season. I don't believe the current injury was a random fluke play. For the WCS signing I would have preferred Gasol but I also want to see WCS here bought in with a full season. Based on some of his quotes this offseason he seems to be bought in a bit. I was curious to see if they would spend the rest of the MLE or save it into the season. I think it's extremely clever to sign WCS at a fairly decent pay raise even if he's not worth more than the minimum. They've created another 6 mill in salary matching piece during the year. And another expiring. idk what they do... But something is going to come together with all these expirings via trade. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - Mavs2019 - 11-22-2020 Now the alternate Mavs off-season universe: Draft night: With the 18th pick the Dallas Mavericks select Aleksey Pokusevski. Board: Donnie knows his Euros. Highest upside of anybody in the draft. Sounds too much like Podkolzin. Bust. Yes. No. Yes. No. With the 31st pick the Dallas Mavericks select Tyrell Terry. Board: Steph Curry with master IQ. High upside. Wingspan of T-Rex. Bust Yes. No. Yes. No. With the 36th pick the Philadephia 76ers select Tyler Bey. Board: Idiots. Philly has a million picks. Cuban said he´d buy one. At least we still got #18 and #31. Woj: I have heard rumours about a possibility that the Dallas Mavericks are very close to the idea of completing a trade. Shams: We have a trade. The Dallas Mavericks have a tentative agreement with the OKC to send Pokusevksi, Green, Seth Curry and Delon Wright to the OKC for Danilo Gallinari. Stein: Guys I reported this 10 minutes ago. Board: I gotta suckered into caring about the draft again. At least it´s not Odom. Let´s here the numbers. 62M. Bit on the high side for four years. Three years. WTF man. Free agency: 6.01 PM EST. You get an extension. You get an extension. You get an extension. You get an extension. Porzingis: Why me? I already have $160M. Why am I even here? Cuban: Wait you are not Willie. Somebody find Willie. Get him on the phone. Fast before it´s too late. Cuban: Willie can you turn on the camera on your laptop, so we can talk about your new contract. Willie: Mark this is a little awkward. I´m sitting here with the Lakers. The champs need a new center. Hold on. Mid level. Seems a fair offer, LeBron. Cuban: I´ll raise it to 36/3. Willie: Deal. Cuban: Bron taking losses to the Mavs since 2011. Carlisle: Hey Danny. Listen it´s Rick. I know we ripped you off in the Powell trade, but don´t hang up. Donnie wants to talk to you. Ainge: [Powell???] Ah sure. Put him through. Donnie: So listen we have spoken to Gordon´s agent. I know this is awkward after how the last trade went for you guys... Ainge: I´m listening. Donnie: So we kind of struggling with matching the salaries, so we´ll have to find something on top of THJ. Ainge: [Goddamn how much do they want to pay him???] Well we could do DFS to get to your number. Donnie: Oh Dorian was a given, but I don´t think that´s enough. We know you want Powell back. Ainge: [Powell???] Exactly. Help me out a little. You know how bad I got it from my owner after the uh [Powell???] trade. Donnie: Understandable. How about Kleber instead. Ainge: Brunson, too. Donnie: I can´t do that. Ainge: You always have the last word. Cuban: So? Donnie: He wanted Brunson, too. I shut him down quickly. Cuban: Well done. Let´s the get the team ready for pre-season. Pre-season: Chandler: Picture it. A completely new position. The stretch two. A really tall guard that can shoot the lights out from three. Cuban: I can´t believe he´s injured again. KP came in thin and never really bulked up. That's a recipe for nagging injuries. And he had them. He's alot better place now physically. Yup. The body is about symmetry and once it's out of whack, other injuries occur because you are favoring your non-injured parts to compensate. I guess what really scares me me the most is that you can rationalize the Klay injury due to age, mileage and how seemingly quick he came back. I do think Athletes do tend to come back from injury to quickly which makes sense considering how competitive they are and how much money is the line for both teams and players. But with KP? Everyone was extremely cautious after the first knee injury, almost to the opposite extreme and it seemingly didn't matter. Do we do the same thing this time around and just sit hit for the season? I wouldn't rule that out, especially if the team gets off to a slow start. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - StepBackJay - 11-22-2020 A meniscus tear is not a huge deal. Is it a longterm concern? Sure every leg injury KP gets will be a concern. That being said this one will be fine, he should be back before long. Lots of guys tear their meniscus. They are not going to shut him down unless he has a new injury. Again ppl are being overly sensitive about it. I expect KP to play most of the season. Agreed that people are overblowing the concern of a meniscus tear. It seems he had a repair though, so he'll be kept out till mid January at least if that's the case. I expect it to be around 15-20 games. Not ideal in a shortened season, but since its in the beginning it's not the worst thing. I hope the Mavs find some extra firepower. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - KillerLeft - 11-22-2020 Playing without KP early will be fine, but my only real goal for him this year is to get his ass through the damn playoffs as a healthy, contributing player. If he misses time in the playoffs again, I will 100% be in the "move on from KP" crowd. Availability is the best ability in sports. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - Drew - 11-22-2020 Guys can I step in here and say we’re are way overreacting to the 15th spot on the team. It’s the 15th spot. No one runs a 15 man rotation. That guy should NEVER play unless it a blow out or we have historic injuries in a game. That guy is a locker room guy. Much like Haslem in Miami. They think he’s good fit the locker room. Luka loves him. Good enough for me. I’m really not worried about him. If they cut Burke or Terry to keep him then complain. I don’t think that’s the case at all. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - Jason Terry - 11-22-2020 (11-22-2020, 06:24 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Playing without KP early will be fine, but my only real goal for him this year is to get his ass through the damn playoffs as a healthy, contributing player. This is reasonable. Better believe though we’re going through what-if scenarios. MBT cannot afford to screw up Luka’s youth even through no fault of their own. We don’t want to be a Milwaukee looking for answers last minute, then our guy leaves. .....We must gather so much talent that if Luka can’t win a ship then he has nobody to blame but himself RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA | Mavs "mostly done...but you never know." - Jym - 11-22-2020 This year was just the logical extension to the no-show last summer. It would have infuriated me if we would have kept Wright and signed someone to the full MLE for several years I'm glad that is seems like they have a plan in place that they're sticking to. The most annoying thing about following the team right after the championship was the constant shift in direction. Didn't commit fullly to capspace or to winning. Hell this time they committed to capspace and actually improved the team a bit. I really like the Richardson fit. |
