RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - SleepingHero - 09-15-2020 (09-15-2020, 01:35 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I agree that CP3 helps the Bucks way more than he helps the Knicks, but isn't Paul to NY the most "Knicks" move you can envision right now? It just seems inevitable. I would hate to be a fan of that..."team." I said this in the other thread but the most "LOLKnicks" move would be to trade for Westbrook right now. Would really take me back to when they traded for Stephon Marbury. Yes, that would be really, really stupid. Westbrook would make them good enough for some 30-35 wins, perhaps playoffs, but not better. So they would get a bad pick and FA would still not want to come. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-15-2020 Jesus. I don't see how ANY team is looking in the mirror right now saying "you know what we need? RUSSELL WESTBROOK!" RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 09-15-2020 (09-15-2020, 01:57 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: Lakers would just get Green off the books, yielding them a large TE they could use. Again. Why would a contender just want to get rid of a player? TPE is not really worth much, because, who will just gift you a good player? They also don't get cap space by dumping him. So, they can do much better if they want to upgrade Green. They have Kuzma and picks to attach to him if needed. I appreciate you are trying, but again and again you are assuming, contenders will just dump players, if they had a not so good season. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-15-2020 Here's a player on a bad contract that I think could be available, and who might just benefit from a change to a better system, surrounded by better players: Buddy Hield. Now, I'm not a Hield expert by any means, but I think he's getable, if they want him. @"Kammrath", what does your room full of blind, abacus wielding dudes say about his two-way potential? Our assets are really only enough for 2 decent players RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 09-15-2020 NY needs to just go out and get CP3, Westbrook and Horford. Then have nothing else on their roster. Just a dumping ground of bad contract decisions. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - SleepingHero - 09-15-2020 (09-15-2020, 02:26 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Here's a player on a bad contract that I think could be available, and who might just benefit from a change to a better system, surrounded by better players: Buddy Hield. I've been beating the Hield drum for what seems like 3 weeks at this point! Welcome to the train! He'd be a 3rd star here. I have no doubts about it. He doesn't play defense, but honestly neither did THJ. What Hield does bring is being in the upper most echelon of elite 3pt shooting available. He has never had a season below 39%. He is the fastest player to 800 made 3's, beating out Steph Curry by a whole 9 games. He is a caliber shooter the likes of Steph, Lillard, and Klay. Having that kind of gravity when you have one of the most (if not the most) elite driver in the game is invaluable. AND we wouldn't really give up 2021 space depending on what we sent out. King fans are really really low on him. I read some King boards and their fans even suggested 18+THJ for 12+Hield. Maybe the Mavs can get away with sending some of their bloated contracts if that's how their how fanbase think his value is. Hield also makes Curry available for trade. If the Mavs just did THJ+Wright+18 for Hield straight up, they'd go into 2021 with 4,742,629 in space if the cap was at the lowest estimated 109 m. From there, the Mavs would have to create 28m in space. Funnily enough, Powells, Curry's, and Kleber's contract gets you to 27.5m. So basically the entire team would be Luka/Hield/Dorian/Giannis/KP/Brunson and 6 vet min guys. Tough, but an avenue. Every time I try to do these hypothetical, the one contract that always makes me so mad is Powell's. What an unneeded albatross that hinders a lot of flexibility for 2021. Still have no clue what the Mavs were thinking. Perhaps they truly thought KP was a 4, and after seeing how good he was as a 5 once Powell went down they regret their choice. Either way the Powell contract needs to go. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Kammrath - 09-15-2020 (09-15-2020, 02:26 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: I'm not a Hield expert by any means, but I think he's getable, if they want him. @Kammrath, what does your room full of blind, abacus wielding dudes say about his two-way potential? Hield in defensive on/off... 19-20: -4.7 18-19: -1.0 17-17: -4.1 Hield in DRPM... 19-20: -2.62 18-19: -1.38 17-18: +2.69 (what a strange outlier of a number that makes no sense?!?) This is all while the SAC TEAM ranked 20th, 20th, and 28th in NBA defensive rating during those years. So yeah...Buddy has the chance to be a net positive if he is getting open looks (and I can be talked into acquiring him). But the chances of him being an impactful TWO-WAY player is virtually zero IMO. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-15-2020 I don't think you pull the trigger on a contract like Hield's if you're holding out hope for Giannis, but it's debatable whether they should be holding that hope in the first place. I don't like hearing that "he doesn't play defense" but Hield WOULD be "the better version of Burke" that @"DanSchwartzman" has been screaming for, I'm pretty convinced of that. He can create off the dribble on top of being a spacing threat. And, most importantly, I think he's realistically available. I don't hate it. I might hate it in a few minutes when @"Kammrath" kicks the door down with a bunch of numbers and makes me feel like a 'tard, but for the time being, I don't hate it. I actually also proposed this deal here I guess Hield is better offensively, but not that much as his contract is higher and longer than THJ. You can't pay 20+ mil per year to one way players that don't create. Divac shouldn't be fired, he should be set on fire. Sacramento can get out of his contract, resign Bogi (I doubt they have space for both) to a more reasonable number and move from there. THJ is similar one year rental player, who can be resigned for normal money in 2021. They don't get worse, they gain flexibility. Still, Hield basically kills a lot of our flexibility, as you said, and he doesn't improve our defense. Even with two good defenders we don't have, our perimeter defense would be crap. I am affraid that would not be enough to really contend. We would be fun to watch, though RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Kammrath - 09-15-2020 On Hield: I am OPEN to seeing what the price is to get him (or even if you get a sweetener).... ....HOWEVER, I am much more inclined to nab the better defending Bogdan who is good friends with this guy named Luka Doncic, maybe you have heard of him? Still nothing special defensively, can create and shoot. If he would sign for something like 12 mil per, I would pay the picks for SnT. I haven't watched enough of the Lakers playoffs to know if DG has redeemed himself but a couple weeks ago they were ready to get rid of him. It really all depends on whether or not the Lakers view DG's potential replacement as better than DG himself. Mavs almost got DG at the trade deadline for Lee so I don't get why you think this is such a crazy idea. You keep dumping all over these ideas even this one which is almost exactly the deal that almost happened a few months ago. Knicks were going to send Morris to Lakers, Lakers would send DG to Dallas and Dallas was going to send Lee + a 2nd to the Knicks. Presumably Lakers would have had to give something else to the Knicks. Cubes thought it was a done deal. The summer deal which again isn't sexy but I could see happening is some kind of deal like that. Lakers get something they like better and the 3rd team who has no use for DG sends them to Dallas for filler and a pick. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - omahen - 09-15-2020 (09-15-2020, 03:37 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: Mavs almost got DG at the trade deadline for Lee so I don't get why you think this is such a crazy idea. In this deal Lakers would get Morris, in your deal Lakers got nothing. Huge difference. Plus Lee is expiring while Wright and Jackson are actually more money than final year of Green. Plus you don't know if any picks were included on our side. So be consistrent with your writing, not insulted if I show obvious shortcummings of the proposal. As for just the Wright+Jackson+31 for Green part, I wouldn't do it. This really is a win now move for a one year rental old guy, and we are not there yet. If someone bad trades for him, he might be cut at TDL and we can get him then RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-15-2020 I said the #31 pick would be included. That would be the payment for some team taking Jackson and Wright who aren't as garbage as you think they are. Wright was put into a position where he had to do a lot of off-ball stuff. He's still a good backup player on many teams. He plays defense and shot 37% from 3. So the 3rd team gets #31 and Lakers get something, either a player they like better than DG or a pick or whatever. It could happen the same way it happened at the TDL. The Mavs are including a BETTER pick this time around bc they would be trying to shed Wright's deal in the process. (09-15-2020, 03:50 PM)omahen Wrote: I am not saying its amazing but Mavs would basically be getting the deal they wanted last summer which was DG for Wright. They give up 31 but that might be worth it for them as you get a starting guard/wing in DG and still have the MLE that can likely net another starter. 2021 cap space would be preserved. It feels like a Donnie type of move to me. Rough idea what MBT *could* do knowing how much they love Plan Powder: 1. Wright+Jackson+#31 for DG or equivalent 1 yr player they like 2. #18 wing player that Mavs can afford to pay 3 mil to in 2021 absent Wright's money (or maybe just trade for future pick if they don't like their options) 3. Budget MLE wing Mavs like (Crowder, Justin Holiday, DJJ, RHJ, etc.) that still allows Mavs max space in 2021. |
