RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-13-2020 I just think they wanted more from Curry than what he gave them. The catch and shoot is lethal, and VERY valuable, but I think that signing was triggered when Kemba picked Boston. Schroeder, or someone like him, is what they were hoping Curry would give them, I think. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-13-2020 (09-13-2020, 05:55 PM)KillerLeft Wrote: Don't flame me too hard, but I don't see a need for both Curry and THJ on this team, and Curry might just end up being the best "sell high" option this summer. So for one year I think you can have all these guards. THJ might not be around forever so I would rather have Curry who is an all-time shooter locked into a great contract. Curry I thought played great in the playoffs especially with Burke pushing the pace. I feel like we stumbled on a formula in the playoffs that will be hard to stop. Curry and Burke were sprinting down the court, it was very hard to defend. Brunson plays a more deliberate pace which is fine and also great in a half court set. Curry does better with that fast-paced style so pairing him with another guy like Schroeder (or keeping Burke) could make this bench the best in the league. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 09-13-2020 Schroeder used to have a major knucklehead reputation. Not sure if that has changed but I'd be surprised if the Mavs brought in a guy like that. https://www.ajc.com/sports/basketball/hawks-felony-charges-recommended-dennis-schroder-battery-case/4tIeajVBWsirRRMV965huM/amp.html?__twitter_impression=true RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - dirkfansince1998 - 09-13-2020 I think Curry is a better fit. THJ might be a little bit bigger but he is one of those players that make it impossible to play good team defense. No one screws up more switches and rotations. Curry is easier to exploit on the ball but he at least knows how to read passing lanes and play help defense. THJ is also our best trade match for bigger contracts. If the Mavs want to make a big move his big expiring deal would be easy to move. Curry on the other hand has a cheap long term contract. Good value for the Mavs. Not sure if the Mavs could get a better player on a similar deal. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-13-2020 I haven't heard anything ab Schroeder since that assault charge in Atlanta. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 09-13-2020 He had a bunch of Rondo type incidents with Budenholzer too. Never shot above 35% from three until this year. Was never considered a good defender until his OKC stint. Maybe getting older + OKC fixed his issues. Still Id be surprised if they pursue that avenue. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-13-2020 (09-13-2020, 06:21 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: I haven't heard anything ab Schroeder since that assault charge in Atlanta. I haven't either, but to be fair, something about the dude's character was 100% why Dallas didn't draft him. A Mavs beat reporter straight up told me that. Kamm and I were just talking about this the other day. Who knows whether they still have issues with the guy. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-13-2020 That makes sense but then you only have him for 1 year and he would also be an attractive piece at the TDL. Seems low risk to me. Him coexisting with Carlisle would worry me. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 09-13-2020 Another guy that is probably buy-low is Kelly Oubre. Suns are ready to send him away for something. I would think if you could swap him out for Jackson and Wright Mavs would do it bc would be a better fit and Mavs would get off of Wright's contract. Not sure if it would be worth giving up #31, depends on how desperate Mavs are to get off Wright's money and how strongly they feel ab Oubre. I suspect they will have moves they can make to dump Wright without giving up #31. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 09-13-2020 Suns got much better when they inserted Bridges into the lineup for Oubre. Hard pass. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - KillerLeft - 09-13-2020 @"jesusshuttlesworth82" who do you like? Hard pass. Oubre does find it hard to pass which is why he got no run in the bubble. As a 1-year reclamation project, I don't hate him but there is zero chance they'd accept a Wright/Jackson package for him. Oubre got no run in the bubble because he was injured. To all writing about Oubre - wow!!! Do you seriously think he is not worth more than a #31 pick? Do you seriously think Phoenix will just give him away for two bad contracts? I mean, I am ok if you say you don't like the guy. But writing that you would offer Wright and Jackson and consider throwing in #31 is just silly. Bridges and Oubre were playing in the lineup together and Oubre started 55 out of 56 games. Something I LOVE about Curry that I do NOT about THJ: Curry knows his role and does not "get out of his lane." THJ is constantly swerving "out of his lane" and like you said, plays horrible TEAM defense. Something I LOVE about Curry that I do NOT about THJ: That's one way to look at it. Another way is that THJ tries to do the things they want the guy in that position to do, but isn't quite up to it, while Curry doesn't even attempt them. You're not wrong though. If I’m rick im putting Hardaway on their best perimeter player RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - SleepingHero - 09-13-2020 (09-13-2020, 06:15 PM)jesusshuttlesworth82 Wrote: Schroeder used to have a major knucklehead reputation. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Nov 20?) + Salary Chart - Jason Terry - 09-13-2020 Every move made this offseason should be viewed through the lenses of defense and toughness. We were historically great offensively and we lose NONE of that.........but were 18th defensively |
