RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - sefant - 11-20-2020 I read a bit on the Detroit sub reddit. Apparantly Wood had a lot of cryptic twitter messages. The majority think he doesn't want to stay in Detroit. And they also have a lot of concern of getting overpaid. Majority think: "If he gets overpaid i’m happy for him, just don’t let it be us." Looks like most are fine with 12-15. At 16+ its getting critical. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - Mavs2019 - 11-20-2020 The Mavs already had Wood on the roster and didn´t even want him at the minimum. I doubt their evaluation of him has changed much based on 4-5 good months on a losing team. Maybe for MLE money. Certainly not for $15M+. He´ll simply go, where the money is, and rightfully so. This will likely be the biggest payday of his career. And an Aldridge lead second unit would score at a slower rate than whatever second unit we throw out without him. He could only play next to KP situationally, which would amount to a very small amount of minutes. He'd have to be KP's backup, and learn to play our game (not lead the unit). Just seems like square peg into a round hole. Can't imagine he'd be happy with all that. Does he want to become primarily a pnr center at 35 yrs old? Do we want to Brunson to bring the ball up and throw it to LMA and let him go to work? Seems like an impossible fit. This is some classic fifteenth basketball analysis, pal. These are the right questions. (11-20-2020, 10:11 AM)Mavs2019 Wrote: The Mavs already had Wood on the roster and didn´t even want him at the minimum. The Mavs DID know the guy very well, recently, and I can't swear that the assumption above is incorrect. If so, I'm FINE with their decision. But, if we learn that they're after him, I'd use the same logic above to be fine with that decision, too. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - Flipper - 11-20-2020 What about Bertans? Fits the mold as another pf/big who can provide most of what KP can offensively. Wonder what a sign and trade with Washington would look like. I suppose he becomes redundant once KP comes back though. Similar to the Richardson trade, think the Mavs are gonna get someone none of us are thinking about. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - Mavs2019 - 11-20-2020 So only 7h 45 minutes till FA starts and roughly another 15 minutes later it ends. I bet 80% will be done in the first hour. At 6.03PM ET Bogdanovic will agree to a S&T somewhere negotiated in three minutes. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - HanspardsShowerVoice - 11-20-2020 The other thing about LMA that can't be overlooked is the chemistry issues. He's a super moody dude. He wanted out of Portland because he was jealous of all the love Dame was getting. He hated the fact that Portland was moving out of an offense that featured him. So he's okay with coming to the Luka Mavs and being the 2nd banana in the backcourt (much less the organization) and playing in an open motion offense that discourages mid range 2s. No. No. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - HanspardsShowerVoice - 11-20-2020 I mean, should the Mavs have never signed Patrick Beverly because they didn't think he was worth drafting at one point in his career? Players can get better than what they previously were. They wouldn't even imagine trying to play him like Powell, but your thinking about whether he'd be excited to play the role he'd have here is valid. I doubt he's ready to concede that much. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - ClutchDirk - 11-20-2020 All I care for is to see Wright and Jackson used to get players here who fit our system and the off-season will be a great one... Get a Star or near Star and it will be an all time great off-season... I think Bertans could make some sense, but I don't think he's the type of transaction we're dreaming about today. What would he cost? If he's cheap, he fits. But, if he's expensive, is he better than Kleber? Does he bring anything that Kleber isn't already giving you at a VERY team friendly price? Bertans is one of the top 5 shooters in the NBA. He's a 6'10" Seth Curry. He doesnt really do much else. With how much every team wants shooting, he's going to get PAID. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - KillerLeft - 11-20-2020 I think the closest thing to a "potential star" that could be done, at this point, is Wood. I agree there are risks, but if it hits you've got a STUD. That's intriguing to me. I'm not here to argue with those pointing out the risks, because they're not wrong. I have friends (smart friends who are MORE familiar with him than the average fan, not people who just want to chase shiny things) who think he's a steal at $24 million per. They won't even entertain the thought of him going for less. So, my conclusion is that if he does go for less, I would consider buying low. The upside is a DIFFERENCE MAKING player. But, they have two of them. No need to overpay another, imo, unless he brings OTHER things to the table, too. A team with a maxed out KP probably has no business making that deal, wouldn't you agree? I get it - you're not a believer. Noted. I'm telling you, dude, there are people out there (basketball people) who think this kid is about to BLOW UP. I'm not sticking my neck out for him...just trying to catch people here up on what the buzz is. Reality could break either way. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - omahen - 11-20-2020 I listened to Cato podcast yesterday and he pointed out we are weak at PG (expecting Wright will be gone) and how he expects we pick up a vet for part of MLE. Augustin was mentioned as an option. We basically only have Luka and Brunson. I don't think JJB is good enough for another season. So, my wishfull thinking would be to trade for White from San Antonio. It would cost pick(s) but he could be another very good long term solution. His contract is very low, so Jackson is enough to match him salary wise. Of course pick(s) to compensate SA. SA has quite a logjam at guard spots and they drafted another PG. Are they willing to pay him long term? We can also take some of their money (all expiring anyway), if they want. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 11-20-2020 (11-20-2020, 10:40 AM)KillerLeft Wrote:(11-20-2020, 10:37 AM)jesusshuttlesworth82 Wrote: too early in the day to be drinking I'm sure he could put up Julius Randle type big numbers on a shitty team. I'm just not a fan of investing long term in more bigs. We already have KP, Powell, Maxi locked up long term. I already think that Powell deal was a mistake. Get some cheaper guy in here if you need another big. Much rather invest in playmaking, shooting, defense perimeter players. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | RC: We're not anywhere near done. - HanspardsShowerVoice - 11-20-2020 So, my understanding of Wood is he was always seen as a plus athlete and scrorer and nice touch. He fell in the draft because he has a thin frame and lacked strength and had an insonsistent shot and was just raw. Is this basically the gist of it? Because if he's taken teh last few years to add strength (and it looks like he has in the video demonstrated below) and solidified his shooting stroke, that's not an undrafted free agent type of talent. Quote:Overall: Wood is essentially your typical, talented power forward coming out of college … Lots of skill, lots of talent, lots of athleticism, and good face-up game, but still needs to develop strength, a post game, more polished rebounding fundamentals, and more of a willingness to play inside in order to thrive in the NBA … He shows a lot of promise as a face-up 4, and, unlike some talented college prospects, he has a great motor which makes him an excellent rebounder … At age 19, Wood is very young for his class and has plenty of time to develop, but he has already put up great numbers in a solid conference at the college level … He should garner a first round selection and perhaps flirt with the lottery … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7DKSRrmCws |
