If I were king for a day, I'd use part of the MLE on each of my second rounders and lock them up. I'd bring back WCS for something like what DFS got using more of the MLE. I'd offer Wright/Jackson for Wood and I'd bring back Lee to ease Green into his spot. Note from the Bogdanovic deal that picks were not part of the trade for SAC and the players being sent were nothing special. Detroit can actually use Wright. If Wood is leaving, why not deal with Dallas rather than losing him for nothing. KP/WCS/Boban Wood/Maxi/Powell Luka/DFS/Bey THJ/Green/Lee Richardson/Brunson/Terry DEEP! RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - omahen - 11-19-2020 Another thing. 2027 pick has no value for me now as a pick. It should be used to improve the veterans on our team. Either this year or very soon afterwards. Detroit can actually use Wright. Not so sure. It was reported that Sacramento loves DiVinzenzo. Young, rookie contract, still improving. You can't compare that with Wright. If you are trading for Wood, you give draft compensatio imho. But I am ok with it. If you think Wood is the missing piece, you pay for him. Personally I am not so sure about him, but sometimes we just see things differently. If pick is what it takes to get that final guy, it should not be an issue! As for Wood. You really don't need WCS if you trade for him. Powell will not be a third PF, total waste of assets. Wood, Kleber, DFS, Powell and Bobi are perfectly enough in the frontcourt until KP returns. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - Hypermav - 11-19-2020 Christian Wood is my broken record but watching Donnie's press conference (did he say "shoot the piss out of the ball" lol) he basically said they went defense and told us he is upgrading both sides. Meaning to me that the next move is an offensive minded addition to the team. I just think Gallinari is the target. This is a good roster. Much improved over last year, more well rounded with some actual young guys they can develop too. I’m not interested in trading for THJ for other injury prone players. I think we are too close and are under evaluating what THJ is and has been. He’s a solid 3rd and good 4th option. If they can add another shooter(Bogdon/Gallo ect...) with some of the other assets and keep the 4 starters they have now then it’ll put them on another level imo. And I do believe this draft and the Richardson trade means they can add a good shooter who isn’t great on defense now. I did not like Bogdon/Gallo with last years roster. It just makes them more deadly offensively and worse defensively. They’ll be better defensively no matter what next season now. Yeah, I had exactly the same feeling RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - HanspardsShowerVoice - 11-19-2020 Quote:Is it anyway possible to get Hayward AND Millsap? This would be my preference. THJ for Hayward. Hayward takes some off the offensive weight off of Luka as a point forward. When playoffs roll around you need 2 or 3 dependable ball handlers in halfcourt offense. The Rockets formula of everyone everyone standing around while Harden dribbles for 22 seconds doesn't work in the playoffs. LeBron is the greatest point forward in NBA history, and he is always at his best when he's sharing the ball back and forth with Playoff Rondo or Kyrie in critical moments in half court. Speaking of Rondo, as I said in another thread, I don't get why the Hawks are going to want Hayward (or why Hayward wants to go there) if they're going to sign Rondo and still feature around Trae with a ton of usage. Just making Hayward a generic spot up off ball shooting small forward completely negligates what makes Hayward unique and why you pay him that salary. Bogdanovic makes much more sense for them if they're signing Rondo. Millsap is big versatile vet muscle that you can have on the floor in a Game 7 that can make a positive impact on offense and defense without having to scheme your offense through. I don't mind giving a 2nd year because the 2021 FA class isn't that great. Trade Wright for a bag of balls. Sign a big for vet minimum. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - Drew - 11-19-2020 Yeah to me Secondary ball handling and/or a shot creator are the biggest needs. If they can get a scorer who can create his own shot(or for others) then they’ll be in good shape. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - ClutchDirk - 11-19-2020 https://twitter.com/APOOCH/status/1329417623986180097 RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - HanspardsShowerVoice - 11-19-2020 I'm starting to think that Harden goes to the Sixers. Morey unloaded a lot of salary last night between Horford and Richardson. I know the Rockets owner probably doesn't want to deal Harden to Morey, but at the end of the day it's just business and the Sixers can offer a young star like Ben Simmons and the Nets can only offer a Poo Poo Platter package of role players and late first draft picks. RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - ClutchDirk - 11-19-2020 Pick: 18 Team: Mavericks | Player: Josh Green | 6-6 wing | 215 | 19, freshman | Arizona Vecenie’s scouting report: Green is a monster defender on the ball due to his athleticism and lateral quickness. He’s tenacious and switchable due to his 6-foot-6 frame and 6-10 wingspan. I love him on that end. Offensively, he can pass it and make decisions, but he’s not a ballhandler. It’ll all come down to where the jumper settles in. That remains unclear. If he’s a 36 percent shooter like he was this season, he’ll be a starter. Ranking: No. 22 Hollinger’s team fit: Green feels like a bit of a reach here, a theoretical 3-and-D guy that hasn’t shown nearly enough of the “3” and has been inconsistent on the “D.” He has good size and quickness for a wing but needs to refine his dribble game and finishing. I thought there were better fits available here. I would have picked… Vecenie: Saddiq Bey| Hollinger: Saddiq Bey Pick: 31 Team: Mavericks (from GSW) | Player: Tyrell Terry | 6-1 guard | 170 | 19, freshman | Stanford Vecenie’s scouting report: I really like Terry, and think he has a chance to be a major part of some winning teams. He’s a genuinely elite level shooter, a terrific decision-maker who processes the game at a really high level, and a very high-level competitor. I don’t think it’s an accident that Stanford got a lot better last year by essentially replacing 2019 No. 32 overall pick with Terry. I’m just not necessarily convinced he’s going to be able to handle being a top offensive initiator in the NBA, which creates some questions at his size. Rank: No. 20 Hollinger’s team fit: The Mavs need shooting around , so this pick is such a logical fit that I can ignore the fact that I had a few other players rated higher. Terry is limited, but he’s young and can really shoot. Playing next to Luka will subtract his worst weakness, playing on the ball. I would have picked… Vecenie: Terry | Hollinger: Terry Pick: 36 Team: Mavericks (from PHI via NY) | Player: Tyler Bey | 6-7 wing | 210 | 22 | Colorado Vecenie’s scouting report: This will be fun, because Hollinger and I have very disparate views on Bey. He’s an elite level quick twitch athlete with great length. But I just don’t love anything else he does. I thought he was an overrated defender who got driven on-ball more often than you’d like to see for a guy whose whole skill package is defense. Offensively, he’s a poor decision-maker and can’t shoot. I had a two-way grade on him due to athleticism, but I don’t love the skills and feel. Rank: No. 55 Hollinger’s team fit: Unlike Sam I had a late first-round grade on Bey, he’s a high-wire athlete who can defend multiple positions but needs to refine his shooting and make better decisions at both ends. I still think Paul Reed is better, but Bey has a chance to be an impact player off the bench I would have picked… Vecenie: Tre Jones, or 15 other guys | Hollinger: Paul Reed RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - cow - 11-19-2020 (11-19-2020, 07:25 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: As Killer said, I think Richardson relieves some of Hardaway's shortcomings. Richardson is a good playmaker and will cover the opponents best guard. Since neither THJ nor Luka are cut out for that defensive role, it make their pairing an issue. If you want secondary playmaking, it often comes from a guard. But THJ isn't good at that either. But, THJ is a good spacer and Luka/Richardson need that. Going in reverse, I personally want no part of Dipo (1 year wonder, health concerns, expiring so we have no idea the contract he will demand, and his attitude doesn't seem like a match for what the MBT are trying to build) or to a lesser extent Hayward (still kind of worried about his health, going to be expensive to retain long term). Of the two, Hayward would be my choice but I sure wouldn't sleep easy at night. Wood is a 70 game sample size. Those last 70 games are impressive, but what do you pay a guy like that in terms of years and dollars? Not sure. If you are sure about him, pull the trigger. He's the perfect age for this team. Never liked OPJ and if Luka's knock-on effect gets Richardson's offensive game back to his Miami days, we don't need him, especially if you want to start developing Allen. Richardson's offensive game is below average. He could very well shoot 40% rom deep here and if he earns 20M per year, I hope it isn't from us. Maybe he becomes our Marcus Smart, but I'd want to compensate him similarly. The trade makes sense, we were dreadful on defense last year and get a prospect like Bey is a nice kicker for losing the long term control we have over Curry. THJ is pretty simple in my eyes. MBT needs to ask themselves what are the long term plans for him. If KP can stay healthy, THJ long term is fine. The problem is that you can't count on that. THJ is a great third banana and some nights, when he is hot, he can be the second banana but he's not consistent enough to do it night in and night out. He also needs to start because he's proven that he can't be a sixth man. The biggest problem this team had offensively was in the crunch. You've got to get a consistent secondary play maker. THJ wants to be here long term and their hearts, MBT probably want that too but you can't think with your heart. If we can upgrade the punch that THJ offensively, it's time. I have no idea how realistic Buddy Love or Bogdan are but if that's an option, run don't walk. If they aren't an option, and while I don't love his age, Lou Williams would be the prefect supplement. With all the new pieces, Curry being traded away and KP's injury, our historic offense is going to take a hit this year. That should be offset somewhat with improved defense. MBT did a good job last night of giving the team the potential to have the depth of a team like a Miami. And with our Giannis pipe dream all but dashed or certainly delayed, I'm okay locking up a 3rd banana as version one of this Luka/KP/??? core even if ??? is an overpay. And speaking of overpay, as mentioned above, while Dipo and Hayward have never been part of my conversation, Buddy or Bogdan have. Both probably cost you a little more than you want to pay but both get you closer to that historic offense and both can help with our crunch time woes. We've also got the platoon of defenders now to help offset their woes. The question I keep asking is would I mind either as that ??? third piece and in both cases the answer is no. Donnie said we aren't done. Obviously we need another 4/5 but I hope his statement is bigger than that. All of that and not one mention of Millsap, be proud of me. haha RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - MAVS-SLO - 11-19-2020 I'm not so exciting about new players. First the draft.. 18 pick and Green i don't see longterm fit in Dallas. From what i saw, he is good in a lot of things in the game but not elite in any of them. Saddiq Bey, Tyrese Maxey, R.J. Hampton, Desmond Bane were all able to draft with higher ceiling but.... I don't know, but it smells me he is a bust and his value will only go down. With 31 pick and Terry... I think he could have some role in Dallas, but i think he is still not nba ready, but we will see... The only player which i think that will have his role in the roster now is Tyler Bey and i think he is the biggest winner in the trade... In the trade with 76'ers i think Dallas is a winner. We got a Tyler Bey and Richardson. Richardson will bring a lot of good things we needed as a secondary creator, good athlete and a perimeter defender. We will miss Curry but i think his value was the highest now. I think his numbers and percenteges could dramaticly changed in Philadelphia where will have only few players that could space the floor. On the other side, we will see if Richardson is longterm Mavs or. just 1 year rental. I'ts interesting that i'ts also represent by Duffy. With Curry gone, resigning Burke i'ts now much more needed. With WCS opting out, Porzingis injured and Powell coming back from a injury i think on of the priority should also be a trading for a big man. Gallinari makes no sense and with a trade for Richardson the same think for Bogdanovic. ? - Powell - Marjanovic Porzingis - Kleber Richardson - DFS - Bey Hardaway Jr - Burke Luka - Brunson - Terry For now now nothing important has changed. We add some defense and lose some shooting, but for now i think we are more or less on the same level than last year. Also we still have Jackson and Wright under a contract. Is Oklahoma still interesting for trading Oubre for a first round pick? We should try 3 team trade: Oklahoma: Wright, Jackson + 18 pick (Green) Indiana: Oubre Dallas: Myles Turner RE: DAL OFFSEASON: Trade & FA (Nov 20) | Donnie: Mavs not done yet - StepBackJay - 11-19-2020 So the thing I like about last night is that Josh Richardson really shored up the starting lineup and Mavs still have more moves they can make to bring in veterans. I like that we don't have to depend on contributions from the 3 prospects drafted this year. In my opinion if any of them crack the regular rotation that would be a win. Mavs have MLE + Wright and Jackson contracts that they could flip for someone else. They also could end up doing a WCS S&T with someone to get a small asset back. Bringing in a couple vets would put even less pressure on the rookies to have to contribute for the Mavs bench to be successful. This guy is a free agent this off season, will be relatively cheap, and fills a solid need for us down low especially with Porzingis missing the start of the season. He brings a toughness too, and can shoot from the outside. I think low-key it is a pickup that can really solidify all the great moves we have made so far in this draft. I think Baynes being redundant to KP is one of his best qualities. When KP is out, whether it be the start of the season, or if you have to rest him, you can pretty much plug in Baynes and have a similar game to KP as he can be a stretch 5 too (obviously touches wouldn't be the same). I think having some stability and depth at the 5 is something that would go miles in a condensed season like this, and Baynes is not only attainable for a relatively cheap price (maybe our MLE), but he was a huge contributor to last years suns while Ayton was out which is sort of the role we're asking of him here. Considering all the crazy cost of trades around the league, the Sixer/Mavs trade seems so logical and helps both teams where they need it. Refreshing.
