Still not sure how it makes us a lottery team but I hope the Mavs have their ducks in a row and are ready. Don’t wait too long on players. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - omahen - 11-16-2020 A simple trade proposal with Detroit (not saying this is my main option). Det: Wright, Jackson, #18 Dal: Kennard, Snell Detroit saves a bit of 2020 money and gains a pick. Wright can be their back up PG, since it is very likely they will trade Rose. Mavs get two better fitting wing players and 2021 cap space. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - StepBackJay - 11-16-2020 So not sure what happens with 18. Seems like you could agree in principle on a THJ/18 for Dipo swap but then you have the risk that you draft a player and THJ opts out. Then you are stuck with the player you drafted for Indy unless and until you negotiate a S&T with THJ. I think the odds of a THJ opt-out are slim to none but I am not sure a GM would do that type of deal. Mavs could do like a backup trade option that included Wright/Jackson/Boban for Dipo and a future first if THJ opts out, knowing 99% that won't happen. Theoretically possible but I sort of doubt it. Danny Green to the Mavs for Wright/Jax and some kind of draft compensation still seems VERY likely if the Mavs aren't able to get something better for their Wright/Jax package. Presti is a tough negotiator so I think he would insist on 31 knowing that he can trade DG at a later date to *somebody* for 2nds if the deal falls through. Remember half the trade is unloading Wright and to a lesser extent Jackson. It's my belief that Mavs want a bigger name for some combination of 18/31/Jackson/Wright but if they can't get that name then DG is a fallback option. I also wonder in this scenario if they will actually draft a player with 18 or perhaps trade out, getting a future first from another team so they don't have to use up a roster spot with a rookie. Our team would be: Doncic/Brunson Kennard/Curry Hardaway/Snell DFS/Kleber KP/WCS Not sure it gets us through the 2nd round. If we want to clear cap, I'd rather send Wright with #31. If we use #18, I want a clear upgrade on Defense. It does get us better, but it is of course not a blockbuster. You left MLE out, which could address defense to an extent. You can leave starting five as it was and use Kennard as 6th man. I tried so hard to BE PREPARED. But, I'm failing. I'm two inches away from going full on @"Scott41theMavs" https://twitter.com/BibsCorner/status/1328355596438007808?s=20 RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - StepBackJay - 11-16-2020 Wright for JaMychal Green and Lou Williams for Jackson, Wright and 18 would be closer to a fair deal. Mavs would dump Wright, Jackson and JGreen would be a good fit here. Both would be significant upgrades over Wright and Jackson. If you are the Mavs and aren't really impressed by what you are going to get at 18 in the draft then you could get two quality rotation players out of it. JGreen is a bit underrated in my opinion, I think you could potentially start him as the other wing in the lineup. I think 2 3D guys in the lineup (Green, DFS) are fine with Luka, KP and presumably THJ for now. not saying it's an amazing trade but it does upgrade 2 positions with guys you can play in the playoffs. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - KillerLeft - 11-16-2020 Ok, so Lou Williams is actually underpaid by quite a bit and going into the last year of his deal. I can see that being a reasonable stepping stone to cap space. Useful for a year and gone. Beverly's contract is fairly significant, and it extends for an extra year. I'm not sure he's worth the extra trouble of working around that, tbh. We would have to send out salary in the Harris deal and there would have to be a pre-deal with another team that included us swapping 2020 picks for 2021 picks. Jet’s idea had the 18 for 2021 idea embedded in the deal with Phoenix/OKC (whatever that deal is). RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - michaeltex - 11-16-2020 I've been reading the excellent posts and think moderation in expectations is key. The MBT isn't going to trade every asset for some 33yo stiff on the downside of his career. They also aren't going to trade #31 and a bag of salt for AD. The team as is ain't bad. #7 seed, but could have been #4 with a few less injuries and some skanky ref calls. Throwing out half of the top minutes players to chase one body isn't a path to success since it will take at least 10 decent bodies to get back to the playoffs. LACs were beatable until KP went down and I think DEN could have been taken as well. I'd love to move up and get a higher ranked draftee, but I think there is a core you don't touch, for now, to do it. Only one of the Super DUOs made the finals, LeBron and AD, which makes me think the West is a lot more even competitively that we think. And now it appears that AD is either leaving (not) or blowing up LAL's salary budget. The original thinking was to keep building this offseason and prepare for making a splash next offseason. I don't see where that has changed. Sure MBT will take a shot at a proven 3rd star, but those shots are going to be the exception. The Mavs are so close that tearing it down and trying to reload with a 3rd "star" and a bunch of bench scrubs isn't going to get any closer to a championship. Luka and KP are finding their balance together and making everybody around them better as a result. Get everybody healthy, continue to grow together, add new talent without giving away too much of the existing talent and we'll all praise them come next spring (or whenever the playoffs happen). Honestly, is there ANY version of a Lou Williams trade that doesn't hurt a little? I mean, Wright works, straight up, and I'd be thrilled with that. But I kind of doubt that's the deal. Wright/#18 would suck, and imo, the possibilities go downhill from there. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Kammrath - 11-16-2020 I am definitely content if they just draft well and hold mostly pat. What I am NOT content with is burning their draft capital for rentals for old dudes. If you use your draft capital it better be a significant upgrade for the long term. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16, 11am) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - KillerLeft - 11-16-2020 (11-16-2020, 10:57 AM)Kammrath Wrote: I am definitely content if they just draft well and hold mostly pat. Totally agree about old dudes. I'd be ok with a rental, but only if the guy you're renting could conceivably be in the top 10 on your free agent board for next year, usable in a sign and trade at that time, etc. The best case scenario for Williams is selling him to a bigger contender at the trade deadline. I suppose if you think you can turn #18 into a first rounder in 2021 by doing THAT, I can see it, but that's really risky.
