RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - Kammrath - 11-12-2020 (11-12-2020, 03:16 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: I'm going to disregard any Lavine rumors as just pure speculation and false until Woj, Stein, Shams or whoever else big time now reports it. It was reported by Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer. He has very legitimate sources. But this is what he said: Quote:Multiple teams, including the Mavericks, have already inquired this offseason about trading for Zach LaVine. Now this could mean the Mavs simply have called CHI and said, "Hey new leadership are you listening to offers on LaVine? What would it take?" It doesn't mean there is anything serious here. They´ll be gone in a split second. That Powell thing might be a bigger problem, but we´d probably have enough space to stretch-waive him, if necessary. That´s all we need. A credible threat to make way for Giannis, then the Bucks might be interested in Curry, Kleber and Powell themselves.(11-12-2020, 02:45 PM)Mavs2019 Wrote:(11-12-2020, 02:24 PM)Hypermav Wrote: https://www.nbaanalysis.net/2020/11/12/dallas-mavericks-among-teams-who-already-inquired-about-zach-lavine/ Given how much the Bulls fans value Lavine, we might have to do Brunson+Curry+Kleber+#18 for him anyway. I´d still do it. It´s all about getting that 3rd guy and on an affordable contract, too. While we are it, might as well offer them Wright + unprotected future 1st for WCJ. I can´t wrap my head around him being available. Now that would truly be crazy. I know people have said that we don't really need more offense... But I completely disagree. We were the best offense last year because of Luka's genius and the spacing created by the Unicorn. We also struggled late in games to create when defense tightened up. We will continue to struggle without a secondary scorer that can create his own shot. KP is great but he's likely to never be the type of player to create his own shot on his own. Not many big man can. Oh I saw who reported it and I know he's legit. I love me some Ringer coverage. I kind of took it as something similar. What I mean is I'm not going to believe its a possibility until one of the big guys says "Bulls and Mavs discussing Lavine trade". I refuse to get my hopes up before then. It seems pretty clear that another ball handler is what the Mavs believe they need most, too, since that’s the common thread linking all the rumors. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - cow - 11-12-2020 Random: -The Boston trade-up rumor is interesting. If they bundle all their picks to move up and then trade that pick for Jrue, I think that tells me all I need to know about this draft. Yes, they are in win now mode but they wouldn't pass on potential equal to or greater than what they are trading for. I guess this is a long way of saying I wouldn't trade up in this draft. -My favorite trade names so far are LaVine (18+31 + future first?) and to much lesser extents Heild and Oubre. -Not only am an I super Insider now, I've figure out how to sway the opinion of this board. Skip Bayless loves OPJ. He owns three Dipo jerseys. What would it take?" It´s the THJ inquiry play. Mavs: So about Lavine. Bulls: Well we know his defense is awful and he´s not really available, but if you want to talk about Markkanen. Mavs: Eh we don´t know. Euro big injury-prone, that´s really a massive gamble on our part. Bulls: Okay we can probably do Lavine, Markkanen for Brunson, #18, #31 and future 1st, but you´d have to eat OPJ´s contract, too. Mavs: You are tough negotiators. Let us think on it. We´d need THJ+Wright+Powell+Jackson to make the salaries work. Bulls: What about Kleber and Curry? Mavs: Nah they are trade ineligible under the THJ-Lee provision sub-section 2b of the last CBA. Bulls: Thank this cap legality is always so confusing for new GMs. Mavs: You are welcome. We got a deal. I do NOT think the Celtics have some sort of great draft evaluation. I am not impressed by their draft history in such a way as to feel that they have a better handle on the draft than other teams. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boston_Celtics_draft_history RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade (Nov 16?) & FA (Nov 20) + Salary Chart | $109.1M cap - ClutchDirk - 11-12-2020 Last 5 minutes last season Defenses abuse and swarm Luka... He passes to a teammate who only knows how to jack up a 3... He passes to a teammate who hesitates allowing defense to recover... He passes to a teammate who tries to create a shot or offense and it ended badly with a poor shot or a bad turnover... Nobody could breakdown a defender and get what they want... Not surprising if true at all. I'd be lowballing if I'm the Mavs. No downside to it. Powell/Wright + Jackson + Bobi and pick 31. Best offer. I'm honestly not that inclined to do the deal cuz Bobi haha. But I would think they wouldn't take back Wright & Powell. I trust them over the Mavs. If they had a few guys they liked or even one guy they loved, they'd spend those lottery tickets on the likes or bundle them and go after the guy they love. And that's not to say there is no one worthy in this draft class but if they saw someone with say the potential of a Jaylen Brown, they'd not be so quick to trade them away for Jrue. Partly because of their own lack of ingenuity, partly because of the position they put themselves in with the putsch of the 2019 offseason. Think about it - 2021 cap room is key. Their best move is to trade contracts that don't fit here long-term which clog that 2021 cap room with sweetening assets for something expiring. Then, that player (who hopefully also makes the team on the floor better during the season) and THJ expiring open up GA room plus - perhaps even enough room that one of those guys could come back on a reasonable contract if he fits the team. I think it's pretty clear that Dipo is a far less desirable target than Holiday, OPJ, or even the Dirk-hated Schroder - all of whom we would like to stay in 2021, at least to some extent - but he might be the best we can do. Still don't like including 18 because it's an opportunity to improve the team that doesn't hurt 2021 hardly at all, but it might be the price of doing business. YES! When Luka is doubled and trapped late in the season or in the playoffs, the result is not the same as it is early on against bad teams. In the playoffs:
Porzingis is great, but he’s not that guy. Finding at least one more of those guys is the number one need for this team. THEN, we can start to discuss tough guys, defenders...whatever you guys want.
