RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - omahen - 10-23-2020 One question. When trading on draft day, which salary is taken into calculation (2019 one or 2020 one?) and which salary cap space (2019 or 2020)? For example. The "insider" guys on Hawks forum speculate LAC want to trade PG for #1 pick and CP3. They continue to speculate how Atlanta could buy both and get PG. But, I think that would actually be quite easy for Minnesota to do in a three team deal. Min: PG LAC: CP3, #1 OKC: Johnson, Turner SnT for remaining salary, #17 (or whatever compensation OKC wants). Dallas needs wing players and Aminu would provided that defensive wing presence. Who knows for sure. I’ve been struggling to keep up lately. I’ve even noticed where I started a post a couple of times and 12 hours later notice I never hit the button to post it. At the draft it is 2019 salary. The 2020 number starts after the moratorium. So, if the trade is completed on draft night, it is the old number. It certainly could be announced on draft night and deferred until after the moratorium. This basically means (for example), Buddy Hield salary on draft night is 4,8 mil. Interesting. You can look it up in the Coon FAQ, but he is basically untradable on draft night to a team that doesn’t have a bunch of 2019 cap room. A deal has to satisfy the rules regarding both the old number and new number. You can do a Poison Pill deal if the spread between old and new is narrow, but the chasm is wide with Hield. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago ranks the Bulls who are least likely to return next season. He puts guard Shaquille Harrison at the top of the list, believing the potential restricted free agent would be “redundant” if Chicago makes a qualifying offer to Kris Dunn. We already have our center RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - Hypermav - 10-23-2020 So Gobert is an expiring like Drummond and we could pretty much use him the same way as the Drummond scenario, but have a much better player. Albeit more expensive to obtain. Maybe Porzingis for Giannis and resign Gobert? So many permutations but I would rather keep KP if at all possible in a Giannis acquisition. Could be something? That's interesting. Gobert was just rated by the Athletic as a top 16 player. He is a UFA next year in 21, which fits our plans. He will make 25.7 mil this next season. So we would probably have to send Wright, Kleber and opt-in WCS w/18 and 31. Would the Jazz sent back the 23rd pick w/Gobert? Mavs probably have to include a future 1st. Porzingis is coming off off knee surgery and will be on time management. KP can also play some at the PF spot to get min. This would be a HIBW type of move I hope the MBT would look at doing. It opens up so many options in 2021. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - DanSchwartzgan - 10-23-2020 I need a new acronym/catch phase. Plan (a little bit of) Powder. I get the sentiment about KP being a center. But it doesn’t have to be 100% of the time. And, might it preserve KP and lengthen his career to play less at center? Gobert is certainly a star. In fact, The Athletic ranked him about 10 spots higher than KP in its rankings this week. Dallas has worked with Gobert’s agent in the past. He also represents Roddy B, DJ Mbenga and Mahinmi. He also represents Frank N. Could be something? Personally I'm not convinced that the locker room drama in Utah is miraculously healed. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if Gobert is moved. I also wonder if the Jazz are one of those teams that are in a tighter financial situation than people realize. I know KP is our center. But seriously -- the interior defense with KP and Gobert would be something else, and they're different enough offensively that I think it would work just fine. Interior defense and offense would be great. But we would be very exposed on perimeter defense, because both KP and Gobert are bad at it. Plus I don't think we have the assets to trade for him anyway. This is not a "question mark Dipo", this is multiple defensive MVP and teams will be fighting hard for him. I just think it's shortsighted to pass up a defensive MVP and 3rd star because of fear of how you'd fill in other gaps. Personally I'd take my chances and focus on how to use a uniquely dominant frontcourt to our advantage. (10-23-2020, 05:47 PM)Hypermav Wrote: I bet Ainge would spend his ample resources for Gobert. I would think so, too. The complicating factor is Gobert's impending free agency, as Ainge isn't the type to blow assets on a rental. I wonder if Gobert has a preferred long-term destination. Even if Rudy said, "I'll only resign with Dallas so no one else trade for me.", I'm sure some other team can come up with expiring salary matches and drat picks to exceed Dallas offer and take the risk of retaining Gobert like Toronto did with KL. Heck, in a strange turn of events, I bet Hayward for Gobert works and Boston could pile on the picks.
