I generally believe that any good team can stomach one knucklehead guy anyways. If BG is that guy, that's worth the talent. But not a lot of dollars spent.” This might be the opportunity to get a guy who would normally cost $12+ million to agree to a one year MLE. Get better without giving up picks and without taking on LT money. ***************************************************************************** Kammrath Wrote: Chasing the Bulls I keep coming back to wanting to raid one of the better defensive teams in CHI this off-season. I will take whoever can be gotten for cheap between... Don't forget Thaddeus. I'm not sure of this, but I think you can S/W the $6mm guarantee next summer and have him count only $2mm in 2021. Same would apply to Satoransky. He's UFA in 22 and $5mm guarantee in 21. I'm not sure if he's the type of dude that hates losing more than he loves winning. I'd also be concerned about fit and him accepting a 3rd banana role. I am out on Thad Young unless he has to accompany one of the other guys in a deal. He was -5.8 in offense and -0.9 on defense this past year. I just think he is over the hill and not going to be a positive any more. He's UFA in 22 and $5mm guarantee in 21. I'm willing to give most anyone on that sinking ship some grace. Basketball Index ranked Young as the 25th best perimeter defender in 19/20. He was also top 25 the prior two seasons. He's been a net positive almost his entire career. So, was 19/20 slippage or a crappy coach induced aberration? There are articles out there that state that no Bull was more negatively impacted by Boylan than Young. This other thing about Young is he may be someone who is both useful and can be swapped for Wright without need to include a pick. I'm not sure Young is needed here IF Powell is healthy and IF WCS returns. If one of those IF's isn't true, I think he's a good one year band-aid. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - SkenfromLMF - 10-21-2020 Tough to make something happen when you can't deal the #18 pick, until after the selection... Patience Grasshopper RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - DanSchwartzgan - 10-22-2020 1. Which free agent do you find most intriguing? Tim MacMahon: Danilo Gallinari might end up deciding between several contenders who offer their full midlevel exception. That would be a bargain for a prolific scorer who has shot 41.8% from 3-point range over the past two seasons, but the teams that have cap space don't look like good fits. Or maybe Thunder general manager Sam Presti can find a win-win, sign-and-trade scenario. ************************************************ Gallinari doesn't help the perimeter D, but despite that he's consistently been a a plus performer in On minus Off. He's killer from 3 and can create his own shot. The trouble with a S&T is it has to be a 3 year deal (but only one guaranteed minimum). So, the $ either has to be enough that Gallinari would give up control to the team. If it is a small amount he'd want control and if injured could gum up the cap in 2021. Dallas would want control with a S&T. Does OKC have a need for Wright? I guess the threat of Gallinari leaving for a one year MLE could help. But, I think you'd need to see CP3 or Schroder leave before Wright would be attractive. The Athletic rated him as the 41st best player in the league this week. His 3 year O-PIPM is 15th best in the league but his 3 year D-PIPM is 280th. Still, for $9 million (or Wright and another $5 million on a one year)? That is a lot of value. Does that free you up for an O for D move elsewhere? Curry for Richardson? I'm starting to like the idea of Josh Green at 18. With Curry over 30 (and an injury risk) and THJ, our source of funds for 2021 cap space, he (and several other similar sized players) make some sense as someone who could take a year to acclimate and then have a bigger role a year from now. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - aguiar95 - 10-22-2020 (10-22-2020, 06:19 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: 1. Which free agent do you find most intriguing? I'm not so sure about him creating his own shot. If the cap stays the same, a Wright/Jackson Dump for air using picks (Wright/31 and Jackson/future 2nd) clears up cap so we can throw a big 1-year offer (around 12-15M). This way we still have the MLE and #18 to address our weaknesses. RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - omahen - 10-22-2020 (10-22-2020, 06:19 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: Does OKC have a need for Wright? Let's say I am Gallo and my main motivation is to win and I am even ready to accept MLE to do that. Is Dallas really in that elite contender class Gallo would have reasonable hope to win it all? I doubt. So we would have to go higher with our offer, unless there are none of the contenders interested in him even at MLE. Gallo for MLE, I am all in, even if it would be a multiyear deal. That is very good value contract. We could actually even use him as a 6th man and let him feast on bench units. Gallo at 12 or something similar per year, I am not so sure, because he would also cost an asset or two. We need better defenders. Room MLE, not full MLE. Point taken, but Dallas was 6th in the league in net rating. What would that be with good health and late season KP showing up earlier? I can't speak to the European mindset as well as you. Lakers for the MLE or Luka/KP for the MLE? What makes him a bigger hero? BTW, I don't think Aguiar is right about cap room in 2020 if Wright and Jackson are traded for air. Yes, that reduces $110.8mm of committed salary by $14mm (assumes WCS opts to stay). But, it doesn't account for #18 or two minimum slots. I believe the number ends up slightly less than the MLE (full MLE) RE: OFFSEASON: Mavs Trade & Free Agency (Dec 1?) + Salary Chart | Season (Jan 18?) - omahen - 10-22-2020 (10-22-2020, 07:49 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: I can't speak to the European mindset as well as you. In my opinion for an Italian, Slovenia or Latvia is same as USA. These guys didn't grow up together playing in same leagues (a national game here and there doesn't really count) not to mention the age difference. I don't think there is anything like "European connection". (10-22-2020, 07:49 AM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: Lakers for the MLE or Luka/KP for the MLE? What makes him a bigger hero? I don't think being a hero is what he is looking for, he is looking for a ring (than he will sign with Detroit for 20 mil ). Realistically, Lakers for the MLE makes it much more realistic to get the ring than Dallas. In a short term. And at his age, Gallo is looking short term.
