By the way Clutch thanks for all your updates you are on top of it!  Earlier today while surfing the interwebs I ran across that other list and noticed it was 32 minutes old.  So I copied it to paste here and then saw you had posted it 25 minutes prior.  Thats some fast work by you and its great to catch up here from your efforts!

Dallas absolutely needs a starting level big to compete in the playoffs. If this recent spate without KP has proved anything is that rim protection with this group is disastrous.

One question I'm sure Donnie is asking himself is Drummond that guy?

Dallas has way bigger needs unless you dont think KP is going to play in the playoffs.

Does Dallas have anyone that you can count on if Luka gets doubled?
Does Dallas have anyone that can guard the opposing team's best perimeter player?

Answer to question 1, no they don't. They need another perimeter ball handler that has an ability to penetrate. Derrick Rose would be my favorite prospect. He's a vet, plays off the bench well, and does exactly what we want.

Answer to question 2, outside of DFS and Delon, not really. But 2 perimeter defenders are okay. I'd love it for them to get a 3rd. Iggy, Snell, Morris, are all candidates.

They also very obviously need to upgrade center. Powell is elite at 1 skill, but so mediocre every where else. If Mavs can find someone to replace Powell that'd be huge as well.

I think Drummond could end up in Boston.  So for Detroit to complete the fire sale they do a 3 way with BOS and DAL.  BOS gets Drummond and Jackson.  DET gets Hayward, Curry and Boban.  And DAL's gets the players you mentioned in 1 and 2 above - Rose and Snell.  DET also gets one of BOS 1st and the MAv's GS 2nd.

Then for the Mavs to upgrade there front line they trade with Sac.  Lee + UT 2nd for Dedmon.

C  - Powell - Dedmon
PF - Porzingis - Kleber
SF - FinneySmith - Snell
SG - Hardaway - Wright
PG - Duncic - Rose

RE: NBA Trade Rumors (New Drummond trade updates page 25) - Aussiebballer - 01-09-2020

Considering Rose's recent legal issues I think Dallas will stay clear of him.
though they did trade for KP so???

I like a lot of the hustle and rebounding plays DFS brings but he's wildly overrated as a defender.

Wright is good at playing passing lanes but he's also an average one on one defender.

RE: NBA Trade Rumors (New Drummond trade updates page 25) - ClutchDirk - 01-10-2020

ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported on The Hoop Collective podcast that the Pelicans are expected to be buyers.

"Right now, my feel on the Pelicans is that they're actually looking to acquire another veteran as opposed to selling off a veteran," Windhorst said (h/t RealGM). "If anything, the Pelicans have seen what a big difference it made to get Derrick Favors back and they think if they could get another veteran into their rotation, that it may even help them more."

Of course, the Bulls have dodged that “usual” result for years, but according to David Kaplan of ESPN 1000 and NBC Sports Chicago, a massive change could finally be on the horizon.

“From what I hear – and I still have good friends that work in the league, they [the Bulls] are readying a plan to overhaul everything in basketball operations,” Kaplan said on his ESPN 1000 show Kap & Co.

RE: NBA Trade Rumors (New Drummond trade updates page 25) - ClutchDirk - 01-10-2020

ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Tim MacMahon reported the squad's intentions on The Hoop Collective.
"The word on the street is that they really do believe that they're going to find a trade for Iguodala," Windhorst said (via RealGM).
"They're adamant about that," MacMahon said. "Well, they've been adamant about it for months, but now that we're in the zone where they're actually having real talks. Again, what I feel in talking to people out there is that they do think that's going to happen."

It won't if they keep winning though, gotta get rid of it before they become a playoff team.

Mavs would be on the losing end of that deal. Giving up Curry and GSW while getting Rose and Snell? You might be able to get Snell for cheap and Rose is a good player but I don't think Mavs biggest need is another guard. I would argue we need a wing or big or big wing more than anything.

Man that would get me excited. I realize the GSW pick has value but man Covington has a lot of value. I doubt you could get him for just GSW + Lee, that would be a steal.

Lakers might be willing to give up Kuzma which would be fair value in my opinion. I would easily give up lower-value assets like Jackson and/or Brunson, as well as GSW for Convington. I think if you can get Covington without giving up a starter or Dodo or a regular rotation piece and you are in great shape. You would have Covington as your elite defender and Dodo as your good-to-great-sometimes second option. I would probably start Convington while still giving Dodo a lot of minutes. Even off the bench Dodo might give you 30 minutes since he can play some small-ball PF without getting you killed.

Doncic
Hardaway
Covington
KP
Powell

I would still want another big but down the stretch you would have some very good defensive options with Maxi, DFS, Covington and KP at your disposal. You could have those 4 + Doncic in some instances if you want basically 4 3D players with Doncic at the same time.

RE: NBA Trade Rumors (New Drummond trade updates page 25) - StepBackJay - 01-10-2020

At this point I think most of us would not trade Dodo for Covington. Covington is a better defender and a little more toolsy offensively but Dodo is one of the most valuable 3D players in the league right now. Only 26, very good defender and rebounder, shooting almost 40% from 3. You would not trade him for a similar player like Covington. If you traded Dodo it would be a package that gets you a star.

Remember Covington + Saric netted the Sixers Jimmy Butler. That would be like the Mavs trading DoDo + Jackson or Brunson for a player the caliber of Butler. If Mavs can find a guy like that sure. Even after losing Butler the Sixers got a very good player in Josh Richardson.

So absent a blockbuster deal I would be trying to get Covington without giving up DFS. I think the bidding is going to be so high for Covington I am not sure you could get him for any combination of TE/Lee/GSW/Brunson/Jackson. I would also be willing to take Dieng back as a way to add value to a package while also giving Mavs additional depth and a large expiring for next year.

It would require 2 transactions but essentially be 1 trade package:
- Covington for TE + GSW (assuming you can barely fit Covington in the TE)
- Lee for Dieng (Brunson is also an option you could add to this)

Another question is whether or not you'd be willing to give up a package that included Seth Curry for Covington. I would argue that you might. They are the same age and Covington is a better fit. It's debatable whether the Wolves would want another 29 year old rather than getting a younger player but it's debatable I suppose.

I feel 95% this is going to happen. Some posturing and negotiating happening in the media but this trade makes sense for both teams one way or another.

"Boston and Dallas, it's worth noting here at the top, are known to be looking for a big"

Quote:The rumblings persist that Orlando might move on from Gordon, who signed a four-year, $76 million deal in July 2018 but who has regressed this season. As our Magic beat writer, Josh Robbins, wrote, the recent knee injury to big man Jonathan Isaac could change this landscape a bit (he’ll be re-evaluated in seven weeks). But long-term, Orlando’s front office of John Hammond and Jeff Weltman must decide whether Isaac and Gordon have too much duplication in their games.
“There is chatter coming from Orlando,” one executive shared on Wednesday.
