RE: Mavs Trade Ideas + Salary Chart | DAL wants RoCo, MIN to "drive hard bargain" - Mavs2019 - 01-23-2020 Just don´t panic. Your contender is build in the summer of 2021/2022, not the winter of 2019/2020. If Minnesota wants too much for Covington, then walk away. One blessing in disguise of the Porzingis trade, is that it actually makes it more difficult for the Mavs to loosely throw away draft picks during the season. Unfortunately they´ll still have plenty of chances on draft night. Unfortunately they´ll still have plenty of chances on draft night. Agree about the panic part. However, some trades are imminent, as Mavs have 12 players under contract for next season and it would probably make sense to "promote" Reeves if they believe in him. Theoretically they could sign first rounder and GSW2nd and give a two way to the other second rounder. But how much chance would this guys actually get? Depth of this team is a problem to some extent, as Brunson and JJ get very inconsistent minutes because there are just too many players that deserve some. Wright already seem to be unhappy by lack of minutes. 3 PG deserving minutes without even counting Barea, 2 SG (THJ, Curry), 2 wings (DFS, JJ) leave no minutes available for youngsters to test them out a bit. PF and C are the only positions where there were enough minutes even before Powell injury, but unfortunately we don't have any youngster at this position. Some consolidation is bound to happen sooner or later. However, I don't see anyone giving a reliable starter for 2, 3 or even 4 bench guys. They want youngsters and picks. The one asset Dallas has (taking back bad money) doesn't seem to really interest anyone. At least not so far. Without a good upgrading opportunity, I am still all for getting some assets for Lee and our TPE. We will need them when we will be upgrading our bench guys with reliable starters. Unfortunately they´ll still have plenty of chances on draft night. I´d judge everything through the agenda 2021. Instead of giving up the Warriors 2nd and a future 1st for Covington, I just look at Okogie´s ceiling. He´s under contract till 2022/2023, then a RFA. What if I just offer them Wright +Boban+ Jackson for Okogie + Dieng instead. It fixes my short-term C problem. It adds more capspace in 2021. It adds a potential core roleplayer beyond 2021. We lose players that are (allegedly) unhappy or realistically cannot be paid beyond 2021. If we really want a Covington type player, we can always push all our retained assets (Warriors picks, own 2020 pick, future picks) into the middle in the summer of 2021. Besides the point that two elite defensive guards become UFA in Oladipo and Holiday. Despite being left at the altar many times in the past, the Mavs have to operate like they are the hottest chick on the planet now. He is excellent player but not many contenders can give up 20 mil in salaries without hurting their teams. Lee+Wright is enough salary wise. We can throw in Jackson if they add Pattton. Plus GSW pick. Not really a very attractive collection, but he might be only a half year rental. KP would be moved full time to center and Gallo to PF with Kleber picking most of remaining minutes at both PF and C position. Gallo might not be the best fit and our defense would not improve. However, our offense would be atomic. He is a natural born scoring machine. If at least he would develop an outside shot. Willy is averaging over 37% on threes the last two seasons.... Huh, missed that one. I read some preseason report that he doesn't shoot threes and didn't go check. Another short term option - Aaron Baynes. Plays extremely hard, can hit a three. Not sure what would it take to get him. I just don't understand why OKC would want to part with Gallo, unless they think he won't be healthy for the playoffs. Day t-minus 15 and counting. Because it is most likely he will be gone next season. Although on the other hand - another PG is the last thing OKC needs. I guess we would need to be talking Kleber and DFS to even start our discussions. This is the price I am not willing to consider. They did not say they weren't open to trading Covington (which would be a reasonable position considering he's a good player on a great contract). I like that Mavs have made plural "offers" but they probably consist of Lee or the TE & a 2nd round pick. I'd add Wright and take Dieng which solves 2 needs for the Mavs and ups the ante for the Wolves. We shall see. This could be a nail-biter. Hes not really a rim roller, but I think he could still bring a ton of value to this team and give us a different dimension RE: Mavs Trade Ideas + Salary Chart | DAL wants RoCo, MIN to "drive hard bargain" - Scott41theMavs - 01-23-2020 (01-23-2020, 05:48 PM)fifteenth Wrote:(01-23-2020, 05:41 PM)StepBackJay Wrote: This could be a nail-biter. Yep. I guess we as fans just have to trust RC to hold things together with our Powell-less roster for the next two weeks. Dieng/Covington is probably the only one-piece move the Mavs could do to significantly improve the team. I think most of our other options for the deadline involve making two trades. I want them to use both Lee and the TPE. That likely means that one of the deals would have to be before the TDL. RE: Mavs Trade Ideas + Salary Chart | DAL wants RoCo, MIN to "drive hard bargain" - Baller AI - 01-23-2020 I feel like if we can't get Dieng, Aldridge, Adams or something like Bog/dedmon, the best option might be save the GS 2nd on a young center, and try to sign a couple guys like faried noah or whatever for this season |
