Yeah was my pick at #18, too. Not much vertically imho, but very crafty and fast. I think how the vertical effects his game in the NBA will determine, whether he´ll be special or shitty. But he seems to have a good floater, which somewhat negates the potential rim finishing problem.

In my opinion, if we are thinking long-term starter to be a Luka backourt partner, we should draft a guy with: 1) low USG%, 2) good 3PA Rate, 3) + defender, 4) good in PnR, 5) good self-creation.

I would rank the first round guys that fit most of that as:

1) T. Haliburton (no self-creation);
2) K. Lewis (not a good D);
3) T. Maxey (Bad 3PA Rate);
4) N. Mannion (Not a good D).

If they are there at #18, we probably should take a serious look since the wing/forward prospects are so thin.

I think Tyrese Haliburton is a guy you trade up to get. He may be the best Rick Carlisle wing in the draft. As for no self creation....What? As the only good remaining player for Iowa State he absolutely can do everything. He is a right sized 2 who could play the three. He is a two way player which is precisely what we do not have at the wing. He absolutely can create his own shot though in ISU's ball movement office he was more likely to move the ball. The defense was always focused on him due to lack of talent from the rest of the guys, but even then I watched him create for himself anytime he decided too.

Go get him. He won't even be that expensive to get.

What I meant was even though he can create his own, he's not the best/effective at it. His numbers in ISO/Late-clock/1v1 situations are not good when compared to other prospects. When Doncic rests/doesn't have the ball, I expect our 2nd ballhandler to go get us points, either by creating for others (Hali's really good at that) or by getting us a bucket (not sure about this one). Obviously ISU's system could have a big part on it. Having a very dominant hand (bad weak hand like K. Hayes) could also play a part on that (when forced left, his TO go way up while his FG% drop).

I'm not sure we have the assets to get that up in his draft range (6-12). In terms of trading up, he's right there with Vassell as almost perfect fits here.

RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 15 w/ Aug 25 Lottery) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - dirkfansince1998 - 08-19-2020

My pipe dream if the Mavs do not trade their picks: Buy a late 1st. Trade #31 for two mid 2nd round picks.

18) Saddiq Bey 6`8/215
45% on nearly 6 attempts from 3. Maybe not the greatest athlet but he is strong and has the length to guard both forward positions.

26 bought from the Celtics) Tyler Bey 6´7/220
Great athlet. Strong, quick, with impressive leaping ability. Showed the ability to defend nearly all positions. Rebounds like a bigman. Not the best shooter.

They remind me of the Bridges brothers. One is more skilled. The other is an incredible athlet. Only downside is the age.

2nd round) Udoka Azubuike 6´11/270
Biggest and strongest player in the entire draft class but surpisingly quick for a player of his size. Great hands and finishing ability around the rim. Highest FG% in NCAA history. Probably the best lob target in recent college basketball history. Brick wall screen setter. Great post defender and rim protector. Obviously also a dominant rebounder.
Still has a lot of room to improve. Especially on offense. FT shooting is the biggest weakness but he also needs to work on his passing.

2nd round) Abdoulaye N´Doye 6´7/200
Long and athletic defensive minded PG. Mediocre shooter. I think his worst case scenario is current Frank Ntilikina. His defense makes him one of the more NBA ready prospects in this years class.

New Post Lottery Mock Draft from The Athletic has Dallas taking Lewis at 18 (a PG).  They have Robert Woodard at 31.

https://theathletic.com/2000546/2020/08/20/vecenie-2020-nba-mock-draft-7-0-minnesota-wins-lottery-draft-order-set/

"I think Dallas could really use an open-court dimension in transition that it doesn’t currently have. Plus, for me, Lewis would be the highest upside player remaining on the board here. He’s arguably the fastest player in the draft, and was the perfect player for Alabama’s uptempo offensive adjustment going from Avery Johnson to Nate Oats.

He averaged 18.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He also hit 36.6 percent of his 3-point attempts and snatched 1.8 steals for the second-straight season. That makes him one of three high-major players in the last three decades to hit those numbers. He was remarkably productive for having played a majority of his sophomore season at 18 years old. More importantly though, he started to slow down and become an even more impressive halfcourt distributor and playmaker. His live-dribble passing took a leap this season, and I think that would mesh well within this offense. Most importantly, I think he can play off the ball, too, due to his shooting ability, meaning he can share a backcourt with Doncic."

Anyone find it funny that the # 1 pick goes to the team who's owner is trying to sell at the worst time?  Can't find a buyer due to CV19 and the uncertainty of the NBA future.  Let's help out our good old billionaire buddy Glen Taylor out.

I was thinking exactly that.

If we are looking at strong defenders first, who could be in our range, I think this is a list of candidates within our reach:
Patrick Williams (1st round)
Achiuwa (1st)
Maxey (2nd)
Josh Green (1st)
Tre Jones (2nd)
Woodard (2nd)
Malachi Flyn (2nd)
Xavier Tilman (2nd)
Reed (2nd or undrafted)

RE: 2020 Draft (Oct 16 date to be pushed back?) | Mavs get #18 & #31 - Derek Nowitzki - 08-28-2020

Cole Anthony is the guy. Not necessarily for this team, but he looks like a star. I don’t follow college basketball, but from what I’ve seen based on scouting videos, he’s the best available in our range. I think the thing that really stands out is his ‘smoothness’, the same thing that I thought Donovan Mitchell had coming out of college.

I´m a center, I´ll save my best for the Mavs workout. I´ll get to play with Luka for five years and I´m an likely opening day starter.
