a) Working with his agent to secure Lowry and Hardaway together on the Mavs

b) Working to sign Lowry with the intention of pairing him back up with his buddy Derozan

Either situation would be really tight and the Mavs would need to work some magic.   Hardaway may be the better fit due to his outside scoring, but Derozan is the better player but the fit may not be as perfect.

Curious, which option would be more appealing to Lowry. Personally night re-signing Hardaway may be something the agent really dislikes, but it may put you in the lead for Lowry if you also brought his buddy here.

These days players like to buddy up on same team, so I would definitely go after that duo. I think that would be a skilled summer. Of course operating over the cap with THJ as one of outgoing salaries in SnT

If you are Memphis and you have Sac offer of Bagley (9 mil) and #9 for Valanciunas and #17, do you really prefer 2 years of Adams and Bledsoe at 35 mil and #10? I am certain that offer was not on the table.

I assume the SAC offer looked like the NO offer, with pick 17 heading back the other way, and taking Bagley being the price for MEM to move up from 17 to 9. Like the NO deal, MEM was willing to take on salary.

As for why they would prefer the NO offer, the Grizz are looking for paths to win now. Adams gives them a very useful player at center to replace JV, probably a starter. Bagley is just dead weight.

I am not convinced at all. Memphis is certainly not in win now, they are patiently rebuilding. Taking 9 mil of salary instead of 50 mil is a no brainer. First option would enable them to have 20 mil of cap space. They could find a cheaper center of similar quality than that.

Even from Sac perspective. Dumping Bagley would cost a SRP, max. More realistically someone would still see an upside and offer a second rounder. This would enable them to throw a lot of money at Holmes, who is arguably much better than JV. And they would keep the high pick.

Who do we need to dump to have enough money for Lowry + THJ? Only Dwight answers please.

Apparently the pieces coming and going didn't add up like you think. Go figure.

One avenue would be to get Lowry via sign-and-trade, with something like DP and J-Rich going to TOR.

My understanding is that we can´t keep THJ and sign Lowry into space. So wouldn´t this be the only possible way?

There would have to be outgoing salary in some fashion. A sign-and-trade for Lowry is the most efficient way to do it. Powell-JRich is one possibility for the salary matching if it's an over-cap trade, and perhaps one of the simplest. But there are a lot of other ways to skin that cat.

Raptors will not eat Powell. There would have to be some incentive for them.

I would certainly hope not. As much as a lot of people want to get rid of him, Dwight is still a good guy and no one wants him to be cannibalized.

Someone had to do it.

Confused the Rex with the Raptor, so this is more appropriate, DwightCam:

1.  The Mavericks will sign free agent Kyle Lowry; or

2.  "Apocalyptically bad" shit will happen.

Wow.  That sounds awfully dramatic.

What I'm saying is, the other main free agents seem not to want to come here (except Norman Powell, but we'll choose THJ over him, because evidently the defensive end of the floor is a figment of we fans' imagination Dodgy ) or are spoken for elsewhere. It appears that if we don't get Lowry, we will be gleaning scraps - not like Holmes, but rather MLE-types that we'll pay the amount of money we ought to be paying THJ. This is the final year before Luka's max. To have that happen would be an epic fail. We would be going into next season (and the years to come) with a very slightly superior roster to last year's poopshow. Someone mentioned the unfortunate events of the Wright, JRich, and Burke acquisitions. To have new players only slightly better when 1) this is our final chance to right that ship and 2) we just hired a front office that supposed to be so much better at pursuing this type of model would be disastrous. We have two decent NBA starters in Luka and DFS. Last time I checked, NBA teams need five. Three or four would be nice all things considered.

So, yeah, Lowry, or unmitigated disaster, or Scott41 is (very improbably but very happily) wrong.

Again, Nico said they already have 15 scenarios and expects those to double.  I'm not trying to blow sunshine but let's doom and gloom after we fail, if we fail.

Prob like Brunson. The bigger problem is talking Lowry into the Mavs if Heat are in the mix.

Lakers are out on DMR. Who other than the Knicks would be hot for DMR? I wish Mavs would go after him especially if they can get a good deal.

Knicks have a lot of money and are rumored to have interest.  I think a good deal is probably out the window for someone of his stature.

(07-30-2021, 08:54 AM)omahen Wrote: Draft night gave some action but there is still a lot open:
- Sexton is still in Cleveland
- looks like Charlotte is out of Holmes game, but might still do a trade (Turner?)
- Chicago still doesn't have a PG or cap space to sign FA one
- GSW didn't pull of a win now move
- Houston drafted two young centers. Could Wood be on the move?
- Indy was active but no real changes to their core
- Minnesota now needs a back up PG
- Portland didn't do anything yet and I guess it will be a tough sell to Lillard that running it back is best way forward
- Kings lost big time imho. Obviously wants to part with Bagley and Hield yet both are still there. Didn't create space to keep Holmes yet. They still have same limited team with probably toxic locker room
- Washington is building a big three of Beal, Hachimura and Dinwiddie that is hardly impressive.

So we can expect many more trades.

Good recap.

The other thing about Charlotte is they loaded up on guards and don't really need to go under the cap any more.  Feels like one too many.  If you are them, do you let an improving Monk walk and then deal with Rich Paul's demands for Rozier a year from now.  Or, do you try to get something for Rozier now and keep Ball/Bouknight backed eventually by Graham, Monk and Riller?

I really like Maxi...I really do.  But, I wonder if he'd be valued in SA next to Poeltl instead of bringing back Rudy Gay.  Is that the path to DeRozan and someone?

Feels to me like Turner to Boston with Smart taking the place of the departed Holiday more than Turner to Charlotte.  I will say, Charlotte needs a "consolidation trade".
