RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: JC accepts 5 yr/$125M deal to ATL - IamDougieFresh - 08-04-2021 (08-04-2021, 05:40 PM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: Note, landing Dragic would hurt this metric. Sending out Powell would hurt even more. The only metric that matters is how may playoff wins you have at the end of the year. Anything less than 16 is a failure when you have Luka Doncic on your team. Answered above. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: JC accepts 5 yr/$125M deal to ATL - Playmaker - 08-04-2021 This FA period by the Mavs has been a utter failure in my eyes. Outside of Luka, the Mavs are still one of the most talent deprived franchises in the NBA. This roster needs a serious influx of tradeable talent. I'm squarely in the add a fallen angle or two category. I would set my eyes on trying to add some of the first round pick that have yet to make an impact on their respective roster for whatever reason and rehab their careers and value around the league. These are the type of young assets teams require in trades for superstars which I think the Mavs ultimately need to acquire to win a championship. I'm squarely on the add Markkanen and/or Bagley via S&T or TPE, maybe both train. I would also trade Brunson to NYK for our 2023 first back to have all of our draft picks available to set up a trade for an superstar. I would also consider picking up DSJ to give him Brunson minutes and try to rehab his career as well. If Jason Kidd and staff are all about player development, lets see this into action. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: JC accepts 5 yr/$125M deal to ATL - VintagePejav2 - 08-04-2021 I wouldn’t expect any movement on the Dragic front until Friday at the earliest. Back to bed now. So uplifting to see the Mavs aren’t the 1. Blazers: Zeller, Snell 2. Kings: Len, Thompson 3. Wizards: Dinwidde, Kuzma, Harrell, KCP 4. Celtics: Kanter, Josh Richardson, Dunn, Fernando (who?), Horford 5. Pacers: Craig, nobody 6. Hawks: Diegn, Delon Wright Maybe we ought to cut them some slack. Apparently free agency could easily have gone much worse. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: JC accepts 5 yr/$125M deal to ATL - Branduil - 08-04-2021 (08-04-2021, 07:30 PM)Jommybone Wrote: Thanks, Clutch. But if we judge the entire process of the last three years that lead up to this years free agency it is a completly different story. The Mavs were left with the limited options of this years free agent market because they failed to make any meaningful upgrades in the previous offseasons. RE: 2021 FREE AGENCY: JC accepts 5 yr/$125M deal to ATL - Okstate819 - 08-04-2021 I’m generally positive and understanding of the current situation and limitations we had while retaining THJ, but this off-season is 100% a failure and disappointment unless at least one more top 8 rotation player is added. The free agent signings don’t bother me, it’s the lack of roster turnover and continuation of the Cuban led “we love our boys in blue” mentality that worries me. The Mavs appear comfortable rolling with what they’ve done so far. I know this because mr smartest guy in the room Mark Cuban is already on twitter “like” posts from upset Mavs fans. His opinion of the fan base was basically spoken through his mouthpiece Skin in his pathetic rant on Monday for those of you who heard it. Mavs only had 30+ mil if they gave up on THJ. It would've been dumb to do that unless they were getting a clear cut bonafide superstar ala Kawhi. Ignoring the fact the Mavs chose to operate over the cap, they still got the best player on paper at a good contract compared to all those teams. With the caveat that they would need a bit of time to develop chemistry, Norman Powell would have been a much better fit next to Luka than THJ is. And yes, that's factoring in the additional money necessary to get him. And yes, that's factoring in the additional money necessary to get him. I think the differences between the two are miniscule enough that I'm glad the Mavs saved an extra year and 16 mil to retain a guy we know is a solid fit next to Luka. I gave THJ a lot of flack earlier in the year and wasn't a believer. I was skeptical he could continue his newfound efficient shooting. He was the only one of our role players that really stepped up in the playoffs and I think the Mavs got him on a solid deal. I don't think any one of those teams listed by Jommybone had a better summer than the Mavs. (For the record I would've liked Powell here in addition to THJ. Same with Lowry, Ball, and Conley). Skin gets fired up about angry Mavs social media. I'll probably agree with him, LOL, but just wouldn't say things in the way he says them. |
