I'll disagree there.  Every year people fuss about the contract size of players, then the cap jumps twice in two years, prices go up and the contract doesnt look that bad at all by the time you are ready to move it.

An insane jump in mental gymnastics to think you are remotely close to contending.

Clearly the plan was to run it back and make small changes because we were so close!

Mavs will be a 1st round exit near year unless KP suddenly becomes a star under Kidd.

It's a big bet to suggest Rick was the problem.

I think it's three things:

1) your point above regarding thinking they're closer than we do.

2) FGump's point earlier about Cuban and his spending (it's been a decade since that CBA that he didn't like - I think we can officially say he's not throwing money around anymore).

3) Nico is a FIRST TIME GM who had less than a month to prepare for this. He's quite literally learning on the job.

We kill them when they wait for the bargains - I see people do it every year. This year, they went for it right out of the gate. We know they offered Portis and he didn't want to come here. I'm sure there were other polite "no's" as well. To get in on these day 1 deals, you have to overpay a bit.

I don't like that they haven't (yet) found a new, impact starter.

I DO like that they got THJ back (he obviously likes it here), and I don't think it was an overpay, personally.

I like the skills they seem to have targeted with the signings (3&D).

I honestly didn't expect better, once it became clear Lowry was off of the board for them yesterday.

On #2 its not like he was ever going to pay the tax. So I'm not sure about the angle of the money from Cuban.

But to one of the other points made by F Gump... Completely unimaginative roster building yet again. Or at least so far. I guess I can hold judgement until free agency is over.

Might as well buy Luka a nice set of luggage to go along with his max extension.

Raptors might be more open to Dwight Powell now.

I think the point is to plan NOW for the next few years, making damn sure he never has to even be in the position where fans expect him to pay the tax.

I think Powell to Toronto is going to happen.

Makes sense for both teams really. Dragic doesn't want to be in Toronto, and wants to play with Luka. Powell is a hometown guy and Toronto needs more bigs.

Tough question for our cap experts...Collins is a challenge S&T cause of BYC, but could Dallas trade Maxi + DP + Burke (and/or WCS) for Collins (on a max) + LouWill for a salary that fits the $10.9M TPE that would make the trade legal? What would LouWill's salary look like?

Turning our D offseason into a C.  We sure his little brother isn't better at this point in their careers?

Dragic for Powell, Burke and Terry. Get it done Nico

It's official. Schroder must not be liked off the court. So much smoke about it everywhere he goes and now he's the one without a chair when the music stops.

It's not easy, but I don't think it has to be that complicated.

The issue with BYC is that a max Collins would count as $28 coming into Dallas but Atlanta could only take half of that back. But the 125% trade matching still applies, which makes it really hard to balance in a 2-team trade.

I'm sure someone like DS or FG may correct me, but an example of what I think would work would look like this:

Collins to Dallas (28)
Maxi to Atlanta (9)
Powell/WCS to OKC (15)

That way Dallas sends 24 out to get 28 back (legal). Atlanta takes less than 14 back (half of Collins' new salary). And OKC would get a tip from Dallas to take money into space. Maybe that's a pick, Green, or Brunson.

Interested?

Who would be our backup PF and C?
