RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - cjeter24 - 06-06-2021 (06-06-2021, 10:46 PM)cow Wrote: 2 more years, 64 million dollars. Wiggins was actually pretty solid this year. I think he had his best shooting year IIRC. They may have gotten a lotto pick for Russell which I think has them with a nice asset pool to improve or go young and rebuild. Klay's injury was brutal tho... I'm not sure they could pay me enough to take on Klay at this point. Not a fan of that move at all given his injury history. I saw a lot of maturity and growth in leadership this year in the post season. Luka was really coaching up guys on the court and directing more than I have ever seen him. In some regards Luka needs to grow on his own into a leader but a guy like Chris Paul IMO is a huge risk. I would much rather have a Kyle Lowery on this team than CP3. Lowery is more dependable and brings the same type of leadership to the locker room. As I said before, KP needs to bring back a solid starter or he needs to be a salary dump for draft compensation. There are a handful of teams that have a lot of picks that we could deal with. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - jesusshuttlesworth82 - 06-06-2021 OKC has received assets to take on reclamation projects. No chance they have any interest in KP unless the Mavs are trading them a couple of our 1st rd picks just to get rid of him. Just talking about 20/21 I would take Wiggins over KP. My biggest concern is that the defensive improvement was more about him playing next to Draymond. He always had the athleticism to be an elite defender but lacked the fundamentals/awareness/IQ. He still isn´t at an elite level but not the liability he used to be. Just feels like it is more about Draymond coaching him through every single possession. That wouldn´t be the case on another team. Not when it mattered. The dude just doesn't understand basketball. Wiggins should have netted GSW a FRP alone, D'Lo another. I saw an interview with Cubes (maybe Bill Simmons) where he was asked about the Mavs failures in free agency. He shrugged it off as never having cap space. I think he's putting too much weight into the thought that other players will want to come play with Luka. I don't think you are getting multiple FRPs for KP though. Luka, KP, Carlisle and KP's legs have tanked his value. Adams is fantastic imo. He's the toughness we're looking for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWEKej-tm_s RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Aussiebballer - 06-07-2021 Steven Adam’s would solve some issues but can easily see him getting played off the court like Zubac. Just depends if you are happy use $20mil on a guy who may not be able to play much in the playoffs against some teams. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - SleepingHero - 06-07-2021 (06-07-2021, 12:02 AM)Aussiebballer Wrote: Steven Adam’s would solve some issues but can easily see him getting played off the court like Zubac. He signed an extension so his cap impact will be 17,073,171 next year and 17,926,289 the year after. KP will be getting paid 32 mil next year alone. So Adams at 35 mil over 2 years doesn't seem so bad, at least to me. Even if he gets played off the floor in the playoffs which I don't think it'd happen so easily. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - DallasBasketball - 06-07-2021 (06-06-2021, 11:29 PM)cow Wrote: I saw an interview with Cubes (maybe Bill Simmons) where he was asked about the Mavs failures in free agency. I think Cubes is bias’d on the capspace issue, given that he was tortured by it throughout Dirk’s prime years and those were also Cuban’s most formative years as an NBA owner. But I also don’t think we’ve had enough opportunity to really know whether players will want to join Doncic. I think after his rookie season the vet’s still hadn’t accepted him into their egosphere. And last year we played our hand to wait and see what happened with Giannis. Now that the Giannis dream is gone I’m really curious what they do next. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - DallasBasketball - 06-07-2021 I also think a team would be happy to give up only a first and cap space to take on a reclamation project like KP. Which is why I think the Mavs will keep a high bar for letting go of him. It seems to me that if you let go of him for capspce this summer, it wouldn’t really do you any good in FA. So you must keep him as your own reclamation project. Maybe he builds value for a trade later or actually becomes the player you thought he could be. But unless you get something really worthwhile, I don’t see it. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - TurkishMFFL - 06-07-2021 I am not really sure if moving Porzee would be the right thing. He did not have a preseason camp with the team since he arrived here. He didn’t even play in the first games of both seasons, through which the team gels and gets a chemistry. He will be healthy this summer for the first time. He can get a much better preparation. He could could also be a better player with a defensive minded big next to him, which will give him more space and flexibility. On the other hand, I am not sure whether Rick did him any good for his play but this year in the preseason many things can change. He is still only 25 and is it now really the good time to put him in the trade market when his value is not that high? I still believe he can be a much better player for this team. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Aussiebballer - 06-07-2021 Unfortunately any road to the Mavs being a title contender in the next 2-3 years is for KP to have an awesome offseason and come back as the clear 2nd best player. I can’t see them being able to trade him for a player that can be a 2nd best player on a great team. I have no confidence in that happening but I just don’t see another option. Trading KP now will only bring back average players that won’t boat the team much. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - Branduil - 06-07-2021 One of the big problems we have is we have so many holes to fill it's hard to know where to start, we have very little assets, and yet also have very little cap room. It's incredible how bad this front office is. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - RedFlag41 - 06-07-2021 The only good thing I can think of in relation to KP is that he did not get injured during the playoffs. RE: ROSTER TALK: DAL with $22.7M - $34.4M in capspace | FA starts Aug 2, 5 pm - RedFlag41 - 06-07-2021 Off season ideas: 1. Sign THJ for 20M per year for 3 years, 2. Sign Dragic for MLE, 3. Trade for Daniel Theis via S and T using JRich. Or a team that will use him as a trade asset again to gain more capital for their need. I am huge fan of DFS, but it is his contract year and if he replicated his performance this season, he is at least a legit full MLE type of guy. Do we want to give him such pay raise?
