RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 12-28-2020 We also know they tried to trade WCJ in the offseason, so they aren't married to him. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - ItsGoTime - 12-28-2020 If the trade is tweaked to include THJ instead of Green, so it becomes THJ/Kleber/DFS/Terry/JB/2027 first for Lavine/WCJ. That gives you a lineup of: Luka/Burke/JJB (or Hinson) Lavine/Green/Lee JRich/JJ/Iwundu WCJ/Powell/Bey KP/WCS/Boban I like that starting unit until it's proven to not work well together. With Green being the weak link of the second unit, that might be what we go into the offseason to strengthen. If it's still Green instead of THJ in the trade, then you replace THJ for Green in the lineup and that is a pretty stout secondary unit if THJ can accept that role like he did in Atlanta that got him the check he has today. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-28-2020 (12-27-2020, 03:02 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: Pretty positive that if this was all they were asking for for either or both of those players then they would be gone already. For them to give up 2 of their starters, they would need to get something back. They're rumored as wanting players, not necessarily picks. The 3 team trade made earlier (I think) in this thread is much closer to what they would be wanting, but I'm not sure Horford is what they're looking for, although that could be wrong. There is a lot of disagreement on Turner's value but my read on the situation is that he is actually a negative asset bc of his contract, not because he is not a good player. I would love the Mavs to get him if they could pair him with KP but my guess is that they want KP to be the lone big in the starting lineup so they don't need an 18 mil/yr backup big. Dipo to me is the guy they would want so that your lineup is Luka, Rich, Dipo, DFS, KP. I don't think the Mavs would give up an asset for Dipo absent an extension. Otherwise Dipo could just walk away. If it's like THJ plus a couple 2nds that is the most I would give up for a rental unless you can get an extension done as part of the deal. If Dipo will do an extension then its worth giving up some kind of asset to keep him from hitting free agency. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - StepBackJay - 12-28-2020 Dan's comments in another thread is clarifying for me as I think Rick's ideal lineup is crystalizing here but will be more clear when KP is back. Rick wants 2 guard + 2 forwards where Luka is considered one of the forwards and then 1 big in his small-ball starting lineup. So that is probably going to be Luka, Rich, THJ, DFS, KP. THJ is the guy they need to upgrade eventually or maybe DFS is another candidate. But they are unlikely to get a Turner-sized big in there (much to Kamm's dismay). That's unless we see Powell kept in the starting lineup and DFS or THJ moved to the bench. I am increasingly believing that won't happen. So in my view any guard or combo SG/SF guard is in play for a trade, especially ones that can score and/or play-make. This means that Dipo, LaVine, Hield are likelier targets that guys than true forwards or centers. That being said we know the Mavs took a hard look at Crowder and Gallo. This maybe means they were also open to upgrading DFS' spot in the lineup and replacing him with Gallo or Crowder. So one of both of THJ/DFS could be "ugpraded" which doesn't necessarily mean DFS won't be here, but he could get moved to the bench. If DFS is going to continue to play well maybe they will go away from that for now. So ya I am looking at how we can ship off THJ eventually for a guy who can take some load off of Luka, preferably someone who can score but also make plays. I DO NOT want a big man just for the sake of a big man. How many times do I need to clarify this? I also do NOT want Turner. I do not think he is a good enough player. That´s pretty high bar. Is PF/C your only upgrade requirement, i.e do you think we are set at guard and need no more play-making? RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - Kammrath - 12-28-2020 (12-28-2020, 12:41 PM)Mavs2019 Wrote: Is PF/C your only upgrade requirement, i.e do you think we are set at guard and need no more play-making? My upgrade requirement is TALENT. That's it, I don't really care all that much where it falls (though that isn't 100% true). This is what I think is "set" on the roster.... One big: KP Two guards: JRich & Luka That's it. I see three pieces in place and nothing more, everything else can be shuffled IMO. (of course I would be open to trading JRich or KP in the right circumstance, but I wouldn't be trying to and it would have to take a clear winning trade) I think the Mavs can fill in around those three players in DIFFERENT ways. Could they get a 2nd big? Sure. Do they have to? No. Could they get another smallish guard? Sure. Is that my preference? No. Priorities from my seat? Upgrading THJ and DP. I would prefer a true wing and a flexible 2nd big, but I much prefer impactful winning players that are big upgrades on THJ and DP rather than being position specific. I am NOT a fan of high risk or likely lateral moves (and most of what I see suggested here falls into that category and hence I would put myself on Team Patient). RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - DanSchwartzgan - 12-28-2020 I have a couple of requests. I'm not trying to cut short conversations or be the board monitor here. Just looking for more thoughtful conversations. 1. Can we go ahead and establish who, if anyone, actually has a claim that they were (publicly) in the Pro-Precious camp. That way when we eventually expand from 5-6 "I told you so's" to 17 we'll actually know who to believe. My recollection (and I could certainly be wrong) is no one made a major effort to highlight their Preference for Precious. He was mentioned a few times in sentences that included words such as "I also like" followed by a list of players. If someone posted something where they specifically focused on Precious, I'd like to be reminded of it. For the most part, the board flogged anyone suggesting the drafting of a big at #18. 2. If you are writing a sentence with the word "AND" and on both sides of "AND" there is a starter for another team (example Turner AND Oladipo or Turner AND LaVine), please imagine yourself a poster on a board in those other cities before finishing the sentence. I'm as bad as anyone about unrealistic fantasy trades. So, when even I'm rolling my eyes, you have to know it's getting a little over the top out there in fantasy land. RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) + Salary Chart - SleepingHero - 12-28-2020 (12-28-2020, 03:37 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: I'm not arguing gettting 1 of the 2 to start for our team, I'm arguing getting both players to start. Get me Lavine and Gordon or Turner then I'm in love and believe they could sustain a deep playoff run. Get me Lauri and another defensive minded creator like Smart and I'll think the same.I see where you're coming from and you have a point since Lauri isn't a defensive stalwart. But by getting Lauri it allows you to flip him for other players. Maybe the Magic don't like Maxi for Gordon. But Lauri certainly is attractive from their position. Sometimes the deal you make first, while not great, allows you to make a better deal later on. (12-28-2020, 01:47 PM)DanSchwartzman Wrote: I'm as bad as anyone about unrealistic fantasy trades.
