This is a clown organization. If Mavs wanted someone like AD, they should've looked at ALL available options: Wemby, Chet, Evan Mobley, Paolo, Sengun/Thompson, plus 1st round picks. We're so screwed in 4-5 years it's embarrassing to think about.

This is pretty much the universal sentiment. Trade him if you want but make sure you get something good back. AD is not that. I would have wanted a younger stud. Before folks say that teams won’t give up those, a lot of GMs would. They know how difficult it is to find an alpha. Also him signing an extension or not didn’t come into the equation even in this current trade. At least throw it open and see what you can get. Maybe Cade, Wagner, Jalen Williams, Chet , Scottie Barnes,… one of them is available. If not and AD and a FRP is the best deal, then call Pelinka’ bluff. Just rushing to take the first or second deal without giving most GMs a chance to even woo them is just lazy GMing.

I don't know what it's like to be a GM but I do think you also have an obligation to protect the fanbase. Like this is just arrogance now. You can't just trade someone like Luka (who actually meant to the city of Dallas) just because you feel like it. That's just straight-up cruel not even thinking about what this city would feel about it.
Winning a championship would actually mean so much more if it's won led by someone we are loyal to.

Cubes fired Avery when he asked to trade Dirk away.
Difference between Cuban, Jerry and Nico is that most owners understand box office. Stephen A mentioned that word today wrt Luka and why the Lakers said bye to AD despite AD being a solid player. He mentioned Luka is box office and will bring the crowds in. The new ownership here probably doesn’t even know or care.
Meanwhile you have Nico just focused on his immediate job and also seeing if he can latch onto a secondary job with Pelinka or Nike once his days here are over. That’s how you get a deal like yesterday that makes no sense and seemed rushed on the Mavs part.

I'm not much a freak out person in my older age. And my frustration over Luka's lack of ability to take care of himself has been growing steadily for years. So, I was able to give Nico some grace here.
But I changed my mind. Y'all are right. This is absolutely awful.
In fact. Luka is now on a team with DFS again. Maybe I'll have a total life change and start watching Lakers games!

I am going to stay in Texas and root for the Spurs. I like Wembys game and now Fox is there as well. Cannot get myself to root for the Lakers because they magically always seem to get studs for bargain basement prices .
The Mavs meanwhile…I just can’t trust them again as long as this ownership and Nico are around. They don’t realize fandom is not just about banners you put in with rent a year players. Having a few of those players are ok, but your core piece has to be one you identify the team with and have some sort of emotional attachment to. For them to just rip that away from us all without any long term plan is just nasty. I would argue even for the short term , Luka is a much more impactful player than AD. 2way player or not.

Still can't fucking believe it has come down to this. can't focus at work, really at anything else...Mavs fandom was just a big part of my day to day.
If and when I recover from the shock and disbelief, I will root for Luka to be the best version of himself in LA. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves there.

So some stupid questions. I noticed Luka was never very engaged on the bench while injured. Everyone is different though. There were times he looked like he disappeared in the second half. I believe he has been on the bench lately though. But he hasn’t been traveling team. Is this common with players out with injury? I wonder if there is something there? Luka wasn’t traveling, not engaged and maybe not taking his rehab seriously when the Mavs were on the road. Just grasping here.

We’ve heard plenty of speculation about how one-sided the trade was in LA’s favor, and how stupid Nico was to do it.
How about some speculation on the other side?
What if Nico was the genius? What if he foresaw a quick decline in Luka, and his career is likely to follow Zion’s? Maybe AD actually has MORE productive career left than Luka?
What if the 2029 FRP will end up as top-10? Or top-5?
What if the Mavs win a championship THIS YEAR?
Will any GM ever be willing to trade with us again?

Stephen A said Luka was supposed to return to the lineup around February 8th but he was told that wasn't really under the Mavs control. Luka has his own team that decides when he was gonna come back.

This is completely ignoring the fact that Nico did not shop Luka. Even if it turned out to be the right move to get out from under him, the fact that he went to one team and did not shop Luka around (and there is no question he could have gotten a bigger haul) makes this an epic fail right off the bat. Its also ignoring the complete lack of concern for the Mavs future. No matter what happens in the near term, the long term has been greatly weakened.
What if the Mavs win a chip this year? That's like saying what if the Kings win a chip this year. Starting two centers with no point guard is not a model for success. The whole devil's advocate thing can be taken too far. Sometimes horrible decisions are made and there is no other reasonable way to look at it.
