Trade all them RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - fifteenth - 02-02-2025 (02-02-2025, 04:55 PM)DallasMaverick Wrote: Sounds like the glass is half-empty, then. For the Slovenian fans they can just become Lakers fans and enjoy the benefit of Luka being given motivation to fix himself. Most of us don't have that option. I can't be a Lakers fan. The new ownership + Nico playing the short game doesn't give me good long-term vibes for my favorite team of the last 40 years. Serious question. Are you on the Mavs payroll? I ask this because the previous fish board had those. I have seen posts by you questioning Luka’s fitness and commitment. Fair enough. How about the other side. Has there been a post where you have questioned why Nico didn’t do his due diligence? Why so many GMs are coming out and telling their sources that they never even knew I have been critical of certain aspects of Luka. I am fine that they wanted to move past him. However when a GM doesn’t do his due diligence, he should be called out as well. Else your analysis doesn’t come across as astute no matter how much fif is trying to pump it up. Comes across as biased. If Luka wasn't going to fix himself here, and (I had already started to think about this next part pre trade) Luka is to the point where he is going to be injured for large portions of each season because he won't take care of himself, then one option would be to just go down with the Luka ship. Just ride him until he becomes not-Luka anymore, because that's what players who can't take care of themselves do. So, just enjoy the show until Luka is done. That was an option. It might be the one I would have picked. RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - SleepingHero - 02-02-2025 @hoopshype Mavs fans might want to skip this tweet... Luka Doncic has become the youngest reigning All-NBA 1st Team player ever to be traded. Nico traded it away for a spoon with holes in it. RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - WillE - 02-02-2025 (02-02-2025, 03:12 PM)WillE Wrote: Same here. After watching the press conference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5bcLSKcsZU&t=1) I'd like to adjust my thinking above: As the physicals still seem to be due, my above theory doesn't work. But listening to his explanations, I believe he is "simply" undervaluing Luka and overvaluing AD. I noted that for Luka, he simply said the usual phrases used to describe superstars, but for Maxi he brought up a small anecdote, which made me think he had a way harder time letting him and even Morris go. Therefore, I'd say the relation between Luka and Harrison and Kidd was simply not stable enough. The next observation is his horizon. He truly seems to think short-sightned, not greatly caring about the state of this franchise 5 years from now. Which may have lead him to live a bit too much in the past and go for aging stars like Kyrie and now AD. But even if one agrees with all this thinking, the one thing I still can't wrap my head around is how nobody stops him right before he pulls the trigger to enight him with the notion, that he could get more in return. Why leaving money on the table? This just doesn't add up. If very simply calculated in FRPs and we're friendly, then AD is 3 and Christie 1 makes 5 altogether. If Maxi and Morris is -1, minus the SRP then Luka is valued as 5,5 FRPs. What...?! Mikal Bridges went for 5 FRPs, Gobert for 4. What does he see that everyone esle is missing making him believe this is a good trade?? Why so many GMs are coming out and telling their sources that they never even knew My assumption whenever a GM or coaching move is made is that I can’t see everything. All I can see is the bit of the iceberg that’s sticking up above the water. So, bombastic statements like “Nico is an idiot” are basically asserting that the poster has god-like insight into all the moving parts that we, the fans, can’t see. Need a little more humility, in my opinion. The day after the NFL draft, draft experts like Mel Kyper will announce “draft scores”, and who “won” and “lost”. And of course, we fans eat it up like candy. No one has played any games yet. The outcome is completely unknown. How about a little patience? A little perspective? A little humility which says “I don’t know all the factors that went into that decision”? RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - Jmaciscool - 02-02-2025 Like some others, it's time for me to take a long (maybe permanent) break from Mavs and NBA. I can't root for a team that does something as bad as this trade. Maybe I'll come back someday if ownership and front office change. This board is great and I learned a lot from all of you. Thanks to everyone who put in the hard work of keeping it going. We could just watch the 2010 - 2011 season from start to finish. Would that help? RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - DallasMaverick - 02-02-2025 Admission by Kevin Pelton (right before he gives the Mavs an “F” for the trade): First, let's acknowledge I've made a habit of betting against Mavericks trades to my detriment. I disliked the risk of bringing in Kyrie Irving months before he would become an unrestricted free agent, but Irving re-signed with Dallas rather than join the Lakers -- now an even more remarkable sliding-doors moment -- and has been terrific for the Mavericks. At last year's trade deadline, I thought Dallas took too much risk for too little benefit by dealing a first-round pick and a swap to get Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington. Adding those two starters ultimately helped the Mavericks reach the NBA Finals. Would that help? That’s a great suggestion but unfortunately nothing will help right now. It’s one thing to move on from Luka. But to trade him to the LAKERS??? And even then to trade him to the Lakers AND NOT GET ALL OF THEIR STUFF?!?!?????? Yeah fif. I can’t. ![]() RE: Luka Dealt to Lakers - hakeemfaan - 02-02-2025 (02-02-2025, 05:18 PM)DallasMaverick Wrote: My assumption whenever a GM or coaching move is made is that I can’t see everything. All I can see is the bit of the iceberg that’s sticking up above the water. This is not the NFL draft where what you say is correct. This is the NBA where everyone can seee who is a generational talent or not. This guy has been in the league now for about 7 years and has been highly productive. So people will compare hauls other teams have got in recent times for lesser talent as opposed to what the Mavs got. Saying you don’t have all the info is fine. If you had said far this is a really poor haul and puzzling, but let’s wait for more details, I can even see that. I don’t see that anywhere from you. IMany GMs have already come out and said they weren’t given a chance to bid. It is an espn cover article. GMs tweeting to their pet sources saying they are shocked at this trade and the haul. At that point it is not just mere speculation that Nico didn’t do his due diligence. Would that help?I actually just this re-watched game 6 of the 2011 Finals with all of my childrens and talked about all the memories, emotions and stories around it. Good, that I did this before this trade as I probably won't be able to paint this franchise in such a emphatic way ever again. |
