I was done yesterday. I am here today only because I am still dazed, depressed and hoping this is all a bad dream. This from someone who followed Dirk from the day he got off a plane as a 19 year old and am forever content that I got to see him win a title. Kids also got to see that but they were still young. Luka was their Dirk. He is gone now. For so less. That too to the Lakers. They were also in shock yesterday.
Once the numbness and shock is over in a day or two, I am done with the NBA. What a crooked rigged league.

Not to excuse any of this craziness...but just thinking about the logic behind the trade return.
1. Let's say as an organization, you decide you don't want to be in the Luka business anymore.
2. Ownership says we don't want to rebuild.
Which other top 20 or 25 players in the NBA can you trade for that fit with Kyrie, Klay, Kidd, etc? Is there another alpha out there available in a trade for Luka Doncic? I know theoretically his value is higher than Ja Morant, Anthony Edwards, etc but would those teams move those guys? Could you do better than Jaylen Williams and a boat load of OKC picks? Franz Wagner and a boat load of picks. Stephon Castle and picks wont fit with Kyrie and Klay. Same with Darius Garland and picks.
3. Still inexcusable they don't get all the picks and pick swaps the Lakers have.

But they didn’t.
Luka didn’t request a trade. He was going to sign his extension.
This feels purely money related which if so I can’t believe it.

I would have traded him for ANT. That is probably a realistic trade. Trading him for AD without getting 3 firsts back is a huge mistake.

I´ll tell you the honest truth on why there was no bidding war. They could not risk Luka publically saying that he wants to stay in Dallas.
Luka and his team had $120M reasons to delay the trade until after the extension and the Lakers still do the same shitty deal.
So virtually the only reason they can´t do the public bidding war is Luka saying he loves Dallas and wants to stay. You think this trade is sh*t. Imagine doing the same trade AFTER Luka saying he loves Dallas. END OF STORY.

New York times is reporting the Mavs reached out to one other team about a superstar, but they don't name the team so might be BS. Even then, 2 teams isn't enough. You offer him to the entire league if you're done with him. Create a bidding war.

Yep. Just money. The owners’ casino dream isn’t going to pan out. They’re cutting their losses (figure of speech, they’ll still turn a profit just not as big as originally hoped). They don’t care about a Dallas sports franchise. It’s just an investment. They’ll sell or move the team before too long.

A great GM would not put his name under this deal, regardless of what ownership wanted. He re-signs, goes out a hero and gets another high profile job. Nico decided to help his friends Pelinka and Nike instead. I wish Luka would say fuck it, run down the deal and return to Real Madrid.

Kinda funny that people have constantly accused Mark Cuban of being cheap, not willing to spend to acquire a championship team, etc.
And now, with much deeper pockets, the new ownership is being accused of the same thing.
Maybe it isn’t about the money.
Maybe it’s really about trying to build a better, more sustainable team.

As a GM you first call all teams. Sure it will get out but as others have said it’s not like everyone is happy now.
This seems like they focused on AD and that’s it because in Nico’s dumb brain he thinks of fandom as something that can be placated by a banner. That’s now how fandom works. Not for a team that has a banner anyway. We wanted to see Luka get it here. If not, and you want to move on, then get some younger players and a ton of picks. I don’t enough about the cap to see what works but Sarr, Bilal and a Wiz FRP with some other matching salaries. Ask Boston if they would consider a Jaylen or a Tatum. Ask Minny if they would consider Ant. Ask Cleve about Mobley. Ask Orlando about Banchero or Wagner. Ask Detroit about Cade.
They traded a generational alpha for an older, fragile non alpha who seems to play in a stupor. LeBron had to ask him consistently to be more aggressive.
This is criminally inept.
