RE: ROSTER TALK: Trade/FA Ideas (Mar 25 TDL) | Mavs have sniffed around on KP trade value - Dahlsim - 02-24-2021 (02-23-2021, 11:20 AM)dirkfansince1998 Wrote: Only trades that I would consider for KP. Getting back another star level player in his prime. Getting back the NY package (picks, young players). ... My concern for KP in Dallas has always been where would he play, how would he be used in the Carlisle system. Even though he's a star role (and salary) which means he will get his minutes, I think he faces the same question that Boban and other bigs face and that is who does he guard? Putting KP at 5 makes sense IF his body can hold up as a 5 so that he's rim protecting and rebounding well. Watching him though, even pre-injury when he was doing that very well for a stretch, it seemed to me too demanding for his body type and not ideal for his play style and the general injury prone history he now has. His body and play style always seems more like a small forward or stretch 4 then a solid 5. His offensive preferences are much more forward like than the inside/out or outside/in game of even a modern 5. In terms of a trade, similar to what I said with Boban, maybe another coach feels they would use KP much differently just as Kerr, and then Lebron saw a usable force in Javale McGee who was going nowhere in Dallas. Not sure just where KP's athleticism is now, but still looks like he can be a force offensively in the right spots, to the right degree. Defensively, who is the matchup and who is he on the floor with, especially on the front line. That's trickier. I hope you aren't implying that I think I am above misreading folks, because I certainly am not. You are spot on, we all misread each other from time to time, so we need to have grace and humility in how we communicate our disagreements and not have the blind and arrogant certainty that comes in 99% of the internet world. And we do that to get Marcus Smart and Dwight Powell's replacement?Ya, I tried to go there with Brown instead of Walker, couldn't do it cause I know that isn't a piece they will let go of. The swap is Burke for Walker, I think we all can agree that that is a large upgrade. Smart for JRich, I think this is an upgrade, but will agree that it isn't a huge upgrade. He is the JYD moreso than JRich and can guard pretty much all 5 positions. He is also a distributor, although his personal scoring leaves much to be desired. KP for Theis is a large downgrade (even if KP is no better than what he's shown so far this season), but the hope is that Theis is exactly the C we need to get by from that position. I'm still iffy on whether or not I'd do it, but I think it's pretty close in value. Maybe we need a first to even it out a bit more. If you expand the basis of this trade and add Brunson and Collins to the mix, than we might have something. Perhaps: Dal: Kemba, Collins Bos: KP Atl: Brunson, Boston asset(s), Mavs pick I would even consider adding JRich for Snell or eating Gallo salary (for JJ). But I doubt Boston would be very interested, as Kemba is basically their only good playmaker. Perhaps:Not bad, I just think with Trae in Atl, JB will find himself in the exact same role he is in here. If Bos needs more playmaking, I'd send JB there and expect Brown instead of Smart (or with him?). Oof, if we could do that... KP/JB/JRich and our 2 firsts (after we trade with NY to relieve the pick protection on 23) and 2 pick swaps for Theis/Smart/Brown I know, too good to be true. I don't think KP is worth Brown right now, and I think he's getting farther away from that value by the day. But if they'd do it, sign me up! First, lets get out of the way that I know you don't trade with Ainge, so no need for that post. Boston isn't trading Smart, he is like the heart of their team. After watching Walker last night I am interested in a KP+filler for Walker/Theis move. I like Theis' game a lot and he would do well in the Mavs' system. He is an underrated player. Walker and KP both have injury concerns. KP has age on his side but his 7'3 frame is a concern. Fit-wise Celtics get a player that fits their system better. They have a bunch of guards. KP would be the third offensive option on that team which is better for him. Mavs would get that 2nd playmaker/scorer. So I think the starters are: Luka, Walker, Rich, Maxi, Theis with Brunson, THJ, DFS being your key reserves. Defensively you are concerned ab Walker but if KP is not working out Walker is probably the best player talent wise you are going to get. John Collins from Atlanta is the other option. KP has age on his side but his 7'3 frame is a concern Please don't let a 1 game sample size fool you into thinking Kemba is a positive player this year (Heck the last 13 months). Last 10 games: 19/4/4/ on 38/38.2/93.3. Season overall: 17/4/4/ on 37.5/34.9/92 He's had a noticeable improvement on his 3pt shooting, but his entire driving/mid range game is gone. Which is what made him a star level player. KP on the other hand Last 10 games: 20.6/8.0/1.5 on 46.2/36.1/87 Season Overall: 20.5/8.2/1.6 on 47.3/35.2/86 Both are terrible defenders so far this year. KP's actually played in 2 more games than Kemba as well so far. KP is by far and away the better player between them. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - StepBackJay - 02-24-2021 I guess I want to see how Walker plays going forward v KP. Walker has been hampered by injury and I believe KP has too. Is KP's decline permanent or not is the question. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - Kammrath - 02-24-2021 Not sure why we would want a player who is struggling to even be the third best player on a under 0.500 Celtics team to come in (and has been a negative there) and try to be the 2nd best player on this team...? At this point in his career I believe Kemba is what the Mavs are getting from JB....just has more experience. To trade KP for that would be a disaster of asset management IMO. RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - cow - 02-24-2021 If Boston sends out Kemba, they'd need a PG back. I'd ask for Smart back and I'm not sure they'd do that as that again hampers the lack of depth at PG. You need another 8M or so to package with KP/Brunson to make the deal work. Powell works but Boston isn't taking him back. Dallas would also need to make another trade or waiver pickup for a big. I doubt there is a deal there but I'd probably listen to: KP/Brunson/Powell for Kemba/Smart/Pick RE: ROSTER TALK: Mar 25 TDL | Mavs have explored KP trade value (RC & Cuban deny) - Kammrath - 02-24-2021 (02-24-2021, 03:21 PM)cow Wrote: KP/Brunson/Powell for Kemba/Smart/Pick No way I listen to that unless there is a high probability that pick is top 7. |
