Yes. He’s a non factor on defense now and doesn’t create his own shot. He doesn’t need to play with just Luka. It’s Luka, Kyrie, and Klay. No way that can work. The Warriors know. They’d be happy to get a young, cheap, athletic player. Klay isn’t a missing piece. He’s a step backwards.

No. Wiggins and Klay are two totally different players. Klay is better than Wiggins still even at this point. Klay is only a year and a half removed from having a 54 point game shooting 10-21 from 3. His defense is still very good. He's not elite anymore in that but still very good. And there is no one more deadly coming off a pin down screen.

I think with Thompson, they're essentially trying to replace Hardaway with someone they think they can actually play. If they're wrong, they're wrong, but some of the contract options being discussed are movable if it doesn't work, imo.
If you can limit Luka's minutes to something reasonable I think he would. Look at the difference in his defense this year vs the 22 WCF run. He was healthy in 22, but still getting routinely targeted. This year he was hobbled but still competing and holding his own pretty consistently. It seems to me that he now understands what level of effort is necessary. And I have to imagine there were conversations with Luka/Kyrie before deciding to pursue Klay to make sure they were bought in.
As far as Klay, they must have some level of confidence that they can manage his ego and still run out more defensive-minded lineups when necessary. I agree they haven't forgotten the importance of DJJ's defense. They're just trying to give Kidd all the weapons they can and trusting him to find the right mix of lineups.

That article if you want to call it that basically says nothing other than there is a 15 day wait because of the agent change. Nothing from the mavs that this will change anything.

That's my point. They are two very different players. IMO, all things equal, Wiggins is a much better fit. We need a starting SF/PF with DJJ backing him up. I think DJJ would start over Klay, with Klay being the 6th man. I'm all about getting Klay, but not near the money he wants. Dude still thinks he's an allstar.
Wiggins is only 108 games removed from being the second best player on a championship team, as a SF/PF.

Yeah, the entire Cato premise is that the delay in the new agent taking over prevents DJJ from signing. But it doesn't prevent him from committing. There's enough trust between Dallas and DJJ that I can't see that being a stumbling block.

Feels to me like the deal is done. But nothing can be done because that’s against the rules and everyone follows the rules.
I think the Green for Klay SnT is done.
I think DJJ for MLEish is done.
Now on to who the Mavs target for BAE.

I'll give Wiggins a pass for this past year, because he had a lot of real family issues going on, that's why he missed so much time. I heard his Dad was real sick. That would stress out anyone. I still think he can bounce back and have the kind of year when GS took out the Mavs on their way to the Finals and beating Boston. He played unreal on defense and offense that season. And Klay may be a slightly better version of THJ at this point in his career. Those two years sitting out with major injuries really sapped his ability to guard and his efficiency is not nearly as good. He had quite a few stinkers (O-fers) shooting the ball this year. It's a shame too as he was this generation's preeminent 2 guard. I still can't sign him for an outrageous amount of money however...
