Trade & FA 2024-25:
About all the sucky play recently by Gaff, Omax, and others, this MIGHT be a better explanation than the idea these guys don't care or aren't the right players.

Quentin Grimes detailed the illness that has been passed around the Mavs locker room:

“I couldn’t even get out of bed, it ran through the whole team. I think J-Kidd and them got it…We haven’t been practicing as much because you don’t want to pass that around…I ain’t ever seen nothing like it, even in high school, college, everybody getting sick…”

Grimes said for him it was a stomach bug, and he “couldn’t hold anything down” and “couldn’t move” while also having “cold sweats.”

This illness being passed around the Mavs locker room is no joke.

Some winter bugs can linger, while they leave you drained and in a fog and lack of energy. A nasty one has been widespread in Dallas, and it sounds like the Mavs have been suffering through it. They can take a while to get back to 100% and not a lot you can do about it.

Toronto is bad and has no cap space this summer.  Would it be worth their while to take a first from us and Maxi/Powell for Kelly Olynyk.  All three players are set to expire in 2026, so it is financially a wash in terms of years.  Olynyk does what we want Maxi and Powell to do (in one body instead of two) and does it better than either of them.  And, Maxi/Powell at $15mm minus Olynyk's $12.8mm leaves $2.2mm to sign (or take back in trade) a full season minimum if that were necessary.

I like the concept, but Olynyk is not the guy I would be targeting for a move like this.  He may provide what we want from Maxi on offense, but I don't think he does on the other end.  He is also about to turn 34 and has played 40 out of a possible 117 games these last two seasons.  I realize its (hopefully) a crappy first and part of its value is getting off Maxi contract, but I greatly prefer a move like this to be for a younger player that I have some confidence can actually get on the court.

Just a simple, probably illegal question from the side:
If Miami can’t trade Butler, could there be a wink-wink-agreement that they buy him out, he lands at his preferred team and that team then trades a couple of picks or valuable young players for garbage of the Heat? What would happen under such circumstances, would the league simply block this one-sided „Thank you for Jimmy“-deal?

I just read a couple of articles about the Butler-drama and have no idea how it could be solved, that contract probably can‘t get traded anywhere.

Please let it be Kings. I wonder what they are offering? Keegan Murray and picks?

Nick Richards 6 minutes tonight, benched in the 2nd half. I’m beginning to wonder if his days in Charlotte are limited and he knows it.

If Keegan Murray is available I'd be calling the Kings and throwing whatever realistically is needed to make it happen.

The Pacers are a team to monitor in trade talks for Cam Johnson, per @TheSteinLine.

Indiana can make salaries work with the Nets by including Obi Toppin and/or Aaron Nesmith alongside expiring contracts of James Wiseman and Isaiah Jackson.

I would love Obi as the Maxi replacement.  Maxi/Hardy for Obi works.

I'm right there with you on O-Max. I have yet to see anything that resembles a rotational piece.

I didnt question Nico at the time, because the guy never misses. But as you said, this might be his rare miss.

Look at the guys picked right after Omax

Ben Sheppard, Nick Smith, Julian Strawther, Brice Sensabaugh. I could see any of them having big impacts here. Not sure i'd see this version of OMax putting up 9 or 10 points a game with Utah, Denver, or Indiana.

Then there is GG Jackson. That could be a huge miss.

GG is going to be a star.  Really bad timing with this injury.

Sensabaugh was my guy. Was poor in his rookie season. Now he´s gotten into shape, he´s basically reproducing his insane college shooting numbers. 49/43/93 2nd year. Dude gave me Lillard vibes. Undecided

I like Sensabaugh, but was scared of the injury.

I wanted Leonard Miller in that late 1st round. I still believe in his potential.

There have been no discussions between the Suns and Jazz for Collins. He is drawing interest from several teams - having his best year, only 27 years old, legit 6-9 can shoot and block some shots. Has player option for next season. Math doesn't really work either.

Ha, went down that rabitt hole. I was thinking why is Beal so bad. I have seen him a few times where he looks like the old Beal. He is averaging 18 pts per game with 48% shooting and 39% from three. They almost had me and then I looked he is making 53 next year and 57 the year after. There you have it.

He was my other guy. I just wait till his year three breakthrough to gloat or abandon him like he´s John Jenkins. Big Grin

I think he's got potential. I'd rather be trying Miller out as a Maxi replacement, rather than O-Max

57 mil a year is a number so big for Beal I can barely comprehend it.

Brian Windhorst says that the Mavericks have been “one of the most active teams on the phone this trade season”

He says that Maxi Kleber & Quentin Grimes “are players who have a market” when it comes to Mavs trade assets.
