THE GREEN MACHINE: The Subtle Emergence of Josh Green

Don't worry about it.  We can all have different opinions.  Any opinion, statement of fact, or fantasy, may break loose the holy grail of basketball.  We can only hope that someone in the head office, with an open mind, is reading what we say.  Or maybe they are rolling on the floor.  I don't care...

Well...I do care.  I don't think the Mavs are managed very well.  But that's just MY opinion.

I like what everyone writes.  This IS a discussion forum.  Keep it up!  Many people will read it...and agree...or not.

Maybe this board is dying because there is way too much deep diving talk involving flawed stats when non-stat guys are saying "but that good stat guy cant dribble or create which is hamstringing our team"...and the stat guys want to go further down some numbers rabbit hole trying to justify some player thats not NBA material.

Its all a set up to cause reaction.  Maybe posters are over the same tired talk trying to justify trash players.

Its all just filler about nothing important usually.

Nobody really pays attention to that guy. You’re one the few who doesn’t have him on ignore, so please don’t let him upset you. He’s clearly in need of a meds adjustment and is one strike away from receiving our first ever perma-ban (a distinguished honor I never thought I’d see here). You are obviously a valued member of the community, so please keep doing you.

Thanks for the heads up. My ignore list oversight has been fixed!

After the last 2 games, I like that Bane has been shut up by Green’s play.

Green was doing great until the trade. It seems like he had carved out a role but once he was back in a situation with an unsettled pecking order, Green lost all of his confidence.

He might not be mentally tough enough to be a regular starter - Green might just always be a super sub.

Yea I hoped for a stronger finish.  Wish post trade he would have had a similar bump that McDaniels has made with Minny.  Same draft class.

He made a jump this year but this terrible season would feel a tad better if he finished strong and we all left knowing he is a starter caliber player on a contending team.

Good teammate.   Always looking to pass.  Phenomenal passer, btw.  Unfortunately it comes off Ben Simmons-y.

He doesnt have the handles or moves to score at rim after he attacks and when the defense collapses and foils his attack.   Sometimes he is left just flailing the ball into the air and nowhere near the basket.   Its looks really un-NBA-y at times.

He needs to train himself to take 3s with a defender closer than he prefers so that he gets more attempts per game.

oh yay...a bunch -y jokes incoming.  so entertaining

I like the comp but to a lesser degree as that seems harsh as it doesn't have Ben's lows.  On the other hand, he doesn't have Ben's highs either.

Trade him to get something in return because he's not coming back when he hits FA in a year. Wasting him as a 3 and D player in this offense but that's not going to change when the system is built around ball-dominant guards and ISO ball. They could probably get another player in the Bullock mold who fits the Luka/Kyrie offense better. Brooklyn wanted him in the trade so maybe you could get Royce O'Neale for him

Green will be a restricted FA. They can match any contract and bring him back. I'd love to see what he can do with another offseason of growth, a competent coaching staff, and full training camp with Luka/Kyrie. Royce O'Neale would be a nice addition, but you're just treading water if you move another rotation player for him.

Maybe he is eventually traded in time but I will greatly disappointed if they don’t sign him early this summer.  You can probably get him for 7-8 million range.  Even if he has faltered down the stretch the mavs better have a good grasp of his developmental path.  Even if he stagnates, less than MLE $ is a good deal. That gives him life changing money vs gambling on a breakout year next year.  Should be a simple decision for both parties imo.

Sounds a lot like "We can offer more money than anyone else". And we all know how that worked out in the past.

Schwing!

Man...every time I see Brooklyn that guys 3 ball has been money.  Im not even going to look up stats that show he is 35% for his career...because I dont care.

Luka open looks for Royce would be killer.   Does be play defense, though?

Also...we dont feature Green as a 3ball specialist like Bullock gets open 3s.  I assume if Bullock can get open 3s we could do the same for Green.   Maybe Green is similar in percentage but way better on defense than Royce.

Overall...Royce has a great looking shot you trust when launched.

UFA vs RFA seems like a completely different situation to me. I suppose Cuban could cheap out, but he's paying over $50m in luxury tax this year. I think he just made a bad call on how good JB really was.

Cheap out is the key phrase. I have lost all hope when it comes to stuff like this.

Two solid performances from Green.  The first half of the last game was awesome.  He was pretty quiet in the second half though.

I really hope we tweak our offense next year though to capture the strengths on Luka and Kyrie (if he resigns), but also lifts up others.  Instead of a offense that just hunts mismatches, I would love to see a quicker pace and more ball movement.  I think both would be a much better fit for Green (Hardy too).

We discussed this earlier in the season but I’m curious what everyone think a Josh Green extension might look like this off-season. I’m thinking somewhere in the 4 years, 52-60 million range sounds about right. For reference, Brandon Clarke got 4yr-52m from Memphis. Keldon Johnson got 4yr-80m from SA.
