It had to be done. The sooner the better. The awkwardness of Nico was always really coming fusing. Even during the press co Terence with Cooper, Nico couldn’t answer basic questions where Kidd knows the game. Mentioning Cooper’s brothers and thanking a little kid who asked a question. I will be interested to hear how Nico was viewed internally. I am sure we will get stories.
Personally I was not a fan of the fire Nico chants. I guess different strokes for different folks but it is just not my thing. Maybe those who did think made this happen. I don’t want to feel bad for him as he made his own bed but I can’t imagine staying here was best for his mental state. He will go down as one of the worst gm’s ever due to his own making but the last 9 months must have been hell for him.
Personally I don’t make any big moves. Get AD and Lively healthy. They didn’t have a normal offseason and I would use this time to get both fully healthy. When healthy this team is much better than it has shown but not as good as I hoped. I’m with the slow start, I do let see them as a playoff team. Probably not one of the five worst teams but a certain lottery team. It looks grim now but this should be a job a lot of people want and one not too far away imo.

But, in this specific case...the Adelsons weren't really interested in buying a basketball team when they acquired the Mavericks. What they were trying to buy was good will in DFW, really (I think). The past 9 months have resulted in the entire city HATING them with the fire of 10,000 suns. It has all backfired, and I'd bet it's making whatever blood-sucking, soulless 1% "DFW takeover" plan they have in play much more difficult to navigate than they'd like.
In this case, I think publicly offering up Harrison as the "pound of flesh" the mob has never stopped demanding is kind of the whole point.
Agree.
They can't allow the city hate them because the have some business incoming here... They didn't expects that impact from a basketball trade.

I suspect the Mavs will begin to play better. Maybe that will be because of BWill playing more minutes or maybe they will get healthier, but I suspect there's too much talent to imagine a quick tank. We're certainly more talented than Memphis when healthy. I don't think we can expect the bottom of the West unless we're really upside down with injuries.

Looking back at the ugly Donnie divorce, Rick leaving, mark saying he was hiring a firm to vet candidates only to quickly hire Nico and Kidd suggest Cuban should have no say on future direction of the team.
Oh let’s not it forget about that wacky Bob V.

"When healthy" is the big qualifier that you noted, but is the point of emphasis. We don't know when Kyrie will be back or how effective he will be. AD and Lively are simply incapable of staying on the court for extended stretches. Those are supposed to be our 3 best players next to CF. I don't think they're going to have to intentionally tank. As long as they are conservative with the injured players they're going to lose a ton of games.

I've been thinking about Cuban a lot today. And not in a good way.

Well, they might start playing better. Very possible.
They still have a crazy roster, put together by someone who thinks bigs are the only thing that matters. That problem hasn't magically disappeared with this firing. They still have literally NO ONE who can go get you a bucket 1-on-1 when the game is tied late in the 4th quarter and you need one. As we know, that's the one thing you can't win without. Flagg might be that guy eventually, and possibly even sooner than we might think, but I don't think depending on him for that this season is likely to result in a playoff berth - do you?

Honestly, this is a bit more "high road" than I expected. I don't hate it at all.

I was mostly right about the message from Dumont. The only thing I was wrong - he didn't say "I am sorry". He is hoping Mavs fans will forget that he signed off the trade and support it.

At this point, I'm sure he's hoping HE can forget it, tbh.

That's the missing part.
He was not out of the trade. Everybody know it.

It's hard to say that directly when AD is still on the team. I think it's a reasonable statement given the circumstances.

No, I don't expect a playoff birth. That's too much to ask. I do expect Kyrie to return though.
Probably the best I see is we are better than the Pelicans and maybe Memphis and Utah and probably not as good as Portland.

For me, and I know this isn't the most popular thing to say, but...IF moving AD out is the direction they're going to choose, I think it's pretty silly to keep Kyrie.
You're either trying to win or you're not, and if you're not, then get busy trying to find the NEXT PG.

I don't know when the perception on this board shifted from mostly Nico's trade to 50/50 or more on ownership, but I've always been of the opinion that this was driven almost exclusively by Nico (and possibly JKidd). I don't think the owner came in wanting to put his stamp on the franchise by trading their generational talent. I believe Nico gave him a list of reasons why Luka needed to go and convinced him that his vision of the Kyrie/AD Mavs being successful immediately.
Yes, ultimately the owner had to sign off, but they were new to this and the GM came in and told them that this was in the best interest of the team, so they agreed. Call it ignorant, sure, but I'll always believe that Nico hard pitched this as something that had to be done because Luka was a problem.

I'm with you. If AD is going then Kyrie and Klay should go as well. The problem will be finding a reasonable return for Kyrie without seeing him play after the surgery.

Interesting.
Denis Linsey is 56.
Masai Ujiri is 55.
I never would've guessed that.

Agreed 100%. Personally, I would trade both and get the most value possible and then actually build this roster around Cooper the right way. Yes we'll be a bad team, but fans can reinvest and watch them grow. We'll have something to look forward to. We are currently stuck in mediocrity hell.
