RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - SleepingHero - 02-15-2020 I wonder what Dirk meant by "I got a little treatment, just health wise, its not great" I hope his ankle isn't permanently injured. And yes they confirmed Kobe learned it from Sasha Vujacic. https://uproxx.com/dimemag/kobe-bryant-trash-talk-luka-doncic-slovenian-explained/ RIP Kobe RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - Hypermav - 02-15-2020 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/02/15/sports/basketball/luka-doncic-kobe-all-star.html “I think he’s the best player in the league, to be honest,” Vujacic said. “I love his demeanor. I love what I see in his eyes. His eyes talk championship.” RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - Kammrath - 02-15-2020 https://twitter.com/TheSteinLine/status/1228796933998891008 RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - ThisIStheYear - 02-16-2020 Luka is crazy good. I just marvel at the stuff he does. If he can ever get his three point percentage up close to 40%, with volume, we’re talking NBA GOAT before all is said and done. I would rather bring in his brother for MLE. I don't mind if Willy is here for min. Another proposal: Dal: Collins Atl: Kleber, Brunson, pick(s) Colllins is a questionable fit next to Capella however he is an excellent fit next to KP. Atlanta needs reliable guys who can play. Kleber can be excellent next to Capella. Brunson is a reliable and cheap back up point guard. If they prefer, I would give Wright instead, but I doubt they would be for it. Collins cap hold in 2021 is only 10 mil, basically the same as Kleber+Brunson salary in 2021. So Luka, Collins, KP and space for another max player. And, if they actually manage to get max player (or spend the cap in 2021), huge tax bill from 2022 on But hey, possibility for a lot of trophies too. Collins isn't really "wing-y" enough for me, but at least he's an upgrade overall on what Maxi brings (and younger). It seems like a lot to give up for Collins, which means, as I said, that it's probably realistic. Now put on your red Atlanta jersey and have another look at Kleber and Brunson. You see a number 5 (at best) and back up point guard. Kleber is already 28 so you can't really expect much improvement. On the other hand, Collins is a borderline all star. I am actually affraid Atlanta would be expecting much more for Collins. Unless both Capella and him play for the remainder of the season and really suck at it. It seems like a lot to give up for Collins, which means, as I said, that it's probably realistic. The trade gives up four (presuming our 2020 and the GSW pick) significant assets. All Dallas would have left to throw in would be DFS and our 2025. Part of the team success is built on value contracts. If we trade away all of our team for a player like Collins, at least we have our third star, but we also have a team to fill out with no cap room - plus the risks of the 2025 pick. Four significant assets is a lot for Dallas to give up. I understand that it may not be enough for Atlanta and that Dallas might get outbid. But we have to be quite careful about what we trade. Dallas's best past trades have been about opportunism. Giving up everything for a third-best player on a championship team is quite risky. But, nothing ventured, nothing gained. Edit: part of any optimism I would have here would be about Atlanta's stupidity. Good as Trae is, he's no Luka, and they passed on Luka for Young and (snicker) Cam Reddish. On the other hand, thank goodness they were so dumb, because otherwise, we probably draft WCJ over Trae, and are still hoping that DSJ and whoever we drafted in 2019 can eventually become something worthwhile. Scary thought. RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - omahen - 02-18-2020 (02-18-2020, 10:30 AM)Scott41theMavs Wrote: iving up everything for a third-best player on a championship team is quite risky. Collins is still positionwise replacement for Kleber. We have too many guards anyway: Luka, Wright THJ, Seth DFS, Jackson Collins, Powell KP, Bobi We still have MLE for that wing position. Plus 30+ millions of cap space in 2021. Either we trade those picks or just continue with what we have plus the picks. I have no idea where they will find minutes for all players in the latter scenario. Powell is not going to come back by next training camp, and it will be a medical miracle, given his dependence on his athleticism, if he ever better than the 11th-best player on a contending team again. Bobi is a situational player on an RC roster. Justin is hot garbage. On the other hand, I would hope we would be able to bring WCS and MKG back (bye bye, MLE, if they're worth bringing back). That still leaves a big hole at the backup four - hopefully the Mavs would be able to find a diamond in the rough among undrafteds or the foreign market. RE: HALLELUKA: All Things Doncic - Benskix2 - 02-18-2020 Barea injured his in January and was back by camp, Wes Matthews tore his in March and I think he participated in camp here the next year. I think there is at least a chance Powell will be back for training camp. I know nothing about John Collins. What is it about him that makes him a bad fit next to Capella and a good fit next to KP? He's putting up good numbers and he's 22, on the surface he seems like a much more valuable asset than Maxi and Brunson.
