All 3 are guards. All 3 are defensive specialists with an ability to create their own shot at varying degrees.

IF the Mavs are looking at that then Davion Mitchell should be their go-to guy because he's going to be something special.

They're calling him the next Luka. I didn't see anything that eye popping from him in college.

If I'm Detroit and the Cavs called me and offered nearly 4 FRP to move down 2 slots I'd take that deal easily.

Who said he was the next Luka? Do you have sources?  I can't believe anyone would say that. They're games are totally different. If you didn't see any of his games, then you weren't paying attention. He was Big 12 player of the year as a freshman. He's not flashy like Luka, but he checks all the boxes with his size and versatility. In this draft, he is a slam dunk. Jalen Green is the only other draftee that has almost as much upside. He fits perfectly for what Detroit is trying to do.

5m in cash and a fake 2nd (top 55 protected) should be enough for a mid 2nd round pick.

He´s not making it that far. Not with the hundreds of 2nd round picks that the Thunder/Pelicans own. 40th to Pelicans is the lowest I can see. Perfect stash candidate. Let him move from Antwerp to a better league/team in Europe and then bring him over in 1-2 years.

That means he is a rising prospect,  which could very well end up early 2nd or even late 1st

Yeah. Again I don't have a good sense of the other talent in this draft, but Vrenz is an NBA player. And I don't think that is so hard to see. Still crossing my fingers he is a 2nd rounder and the Mavs maybe get a shot at him.

RE: 2021 NBA DRAFT: July 29 - Chicagojk - 07-21-2021

I listened to the Lock on Mavs podcast with Chad Ford this morning and it was interesting.  Ford still likes the picks from last year.  Ford was spot on with his analysis after the Green pick though.  Wow.    Very interesting stuff.  They played the audio of his comments right after the pick was made.

They also talked about some Mavs options in the draft.  They talked late lottery and I see no way the Mavs move up there.  They also talked some names in the mid first and I don't see that as a possibility either.

Heard that comparison first from Kevin O'Conner way back in December of last year (if my memory is right) as a footnote of a free agency podcast when he was previewing the upcoming draft. The comparison has been made on more than one occasion from several analysts throughout last years college season.

I don't think he's a slam dunk. I watched Cade multiple times and wasn't blown away. He seems like he will be a solid starter in the league, but a future NBA all-star? I can't agree with that.

But I do agree with you he's exactly what Detroit needs. Maybe he'll shine going to a perfect fit.

You know what that is? The draft positions of the Bucks NBA finals rotation in order of minutes played. ONE LOTTERY PICK.

And how many of them did they draft themself? One. Giannis. They did not build through the draft or develop the talent.

Exactly. In fact the Bucks drafting record has been pretty piss poor since 2013.

2013- Giannis (15th pick)
2014- Jabari Parker (2nd pick), Damien Ingles (31st), Johnny O'Bryant (36th), Lamar Patterson (48th)
  • Notable misses: Embiid, Jokic, Gordon, Smart, Randle, Lavine, Capela, Bogdanovic, Dinwiddie (and Diamond Powell)
2015- Rashad Vaughn (17th),
2016- Thon Maker (10th), Malcom Brogdon (36th)
2017- DJ Watson (17th), Sterling Brown (46th)
2018- Donte DiVencenzo (17th),
2019- No picks
2020- Sam Merrill (60th)

A long list of failures there. Besides Giannis, MIL made 1 high quality pick in Brogdon, and 1 medium quality pick in DiVencenzo in 8 years.

And WTF is your point? Huh

The discussion centered around the fact that a GM should not trade the 19th pick for Kleber/Brunson, because it would be a severe talent downgrade, even if the GM believes that player has All-NBA potential.

So the point of the discussion was that half the rotation of the NBA champions was drafted close to or even far below #19, and not by whom they were drafted.

It wouldn´t be a talent downgrade.  For some reason you are only mentioning the good examples. Not the majority of players in the late first round that never panned out. if you want to make a case for the value of the pick you have to go with the average or median. Not the once in a lifetime outlier.
Brunson for example was a great pick. Top 20 player in his draft class. Easily better than the average player that is drafted in the mid/late first round.
