MJ and Bird being the alphas, Curry's ability to hit from WAY downtown anytime, Dirk deferring while spreading the floor and being a dagger when called upon, Robinson dragging defenders to the post to open up 3's from Bird, Dirk and Curry and anchoring the defense.

Mine is close

Curry/Jordan/Pippen/Bird/Robinson

As much as I love Dirk, the team wouldn't need his offense.  You can stick Pippen on the opposing team's best player.

Thunder with yet another clutch win. Say what you want, but CP3 is the only guy that makes us immediate contender. We would have 10 wins more with him already. I don't see OKC parting with him for a bunch of crap anymore.

Another nailbiter.  7th road win in a row.  Started 0-6 on road now 15-4 in last 19 road games.  CP has a calming effect on the team its amazing to see the team change from tankathon to playoff seed since start.

Thus was looking like a bad month yet turned out good.  Also have to give Billy credit for having right players in last 5 minutes to close games.

Ran across this:

I still think they are looking long term and would trade.  But now the price/s went up.  Presti in a good spot.  Keep same and likely playoffs.  Trade and build future with more assets.  Fans want playoffs so any deal has to be good.  I think Presti can wait til summer when more deals are made anyways.  Teams are more optimistic in summer looking ahead at next season and make bigger deals.

Dame made like Kobe, and dropped 48 and 10 on the Lakers in a 127-119 win. Dame has been on fire averaging 48 ppg over his last 5. Whiteside had been balling as well with 30 and 13 rebs and 5 blks. AD led LA with 37 and 15 rebs.

RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - ThunderMav - 02-01-2020

Forgot how bad the roster was. Plus this was rookie Sabonis and injured Dipo.  Amazing how fast rosters churn when you look back.  Its a constant evolution

This is crazy!  CP deserves his AS spot for sure.  Also Dennis is playing out of mind.  SGA playing smooth yet with quality.  Adams as well.  And Gallo is more aggressive than I knew in going to bucket.  Billy has done amazing, I would never imagine this group ever gelling like they have.

Make no mistake, they are likely a first round exit.  But its fun for the fans.

In the meantime, while Mavs did their job against Atlanta, San Antonio and Portland also won. Especially latter is on a tear behind Lillards amazing performances.

My opinion is, there are three teams below the eight spot still hoping for playoffs and have a chance to make it: New Orleans, Portland and San Antonio. I doubt Memphis will be able to defend their spot, however the question is, can they endanger OKC or Mavs. With some 33 games left, these teams need to win some 23 games if Mavs or OKC win just 15.

San Antonio is looking at a stretch against LAC, LAL and Por now, followed by OKC twice, Denver, Utah and Sacramento. Very difficult stretch that might determine their season.

Portland doesn't have any easier job with Denver, San Antonio and Utah as the next three, followed by Miami, New Orleans twice and Memphis.

Can’t see the Spurs making it.

Portland could go on a big tear if Nurkic comes back and is ready to roll.
They can also swap Whiteside for a another wing if they are happy Nurkic can cover.

Pelicans could do anything really, Zion looks pretty good but can he be consistent over a long period.

My bet is Portland and Pelicans battling it out until the last few games of the season.

The wildcard is Portland imo.  If they make a trade that would put them in position.  Lillard is playing MVP level the past several games but I doubt he can keep it up.

For OKC its about health.  CP has only missed 1 game and that was Kobe related not injury.  If he has any spells off then its harder.  Dennis is a perfect six man and moving him to starter kills the bench.  Gallo is not playing second of back to backs and has to be paced.  Adams has been banged up too.  Their health is key.
SA, I don’t think they have the horses to get there.

New Oleans could make a run with Zion he is healthy and not tired from grind.

Memphis seems like they could pull it off.

This is just awful.  I would put Wolves in NY catagory just one notch up

Tough to not take my favorite players but If I had to put money on it or my life on it I'd have to pick my 5 like this.

Jordan
Shaq
Pippen
KG
And its a toss up from taking a PG like Nash or spreading the floor with T-Mac (We don't really need a PG but I'm not sure if that's the rules to have to pick one, Only way I'd grab Nash for this question)

But to have a defensive line up of Shaq/ KG guarding the rim and Jordan/ Pippen guarding the wings is absolutely insane. Then they are also some of the best offensively players in history as well. All 2 way players aside from Nash. T Mac was a decent defender but he could spread the floor and make things really nasty for any opposing team.

I hated not being able to toss Dirk or AI in there but that would be my bias talking over who I really believe on that list could make the best 5 especially since I think Dirk is marginally better than KG, I just wanted some of the best 2 way players up there. Dirk even in his prime wasn't a very good on ball defender neither was AI, Dirk was a good team/help side defender with quick hands under the basket and AI was a wizard in the passing lanes, Just not the same level of defenders as the other guys who could also get buckets easily. Dirk and AI are literally my 1a and 1b favorite players right after MJ.

Side note I just realized my picks were kinda chosen over playing in that 90s/2000s era. Them playing today would also probably work just fine and get you 82 but I might pick differently slightly if it were today's soft ass chuck up 3s style we have now...

I find it hard to believe, Portland would trade Whiteside, but I guess it could happen. Whiteside has been playing lights out for the Blazers, and leads the league in shot blocks, and 3rd in rebounding. Nurkic may be the better passer and scorer, but Whiteside protects the paint better. Will be interesting to see what they do at the deadline.

Iggy's act is wearing thin....

One possibility is that Iggy doesn't actually want to play this year. He wants to get paid next year and playing this year could reveal that he doesn't have much left.

RE: Around the NBA 2019-2020 - omahen - 02-04-2020

Milwaukee, Denver and LAL have the opportunity to make life of our potential playoff threats more difficult today.

Masai would be crazy to leave Toronto, to work for Dolan. But OTOH, he would be the King of New York, if he turned them around. Largest market in the country, Dolan's deep pockets, and if ran correctly would be a magnet for FA's. Who wouldn't want to play at MSG ? I don't see Masai leaving though unless Dolan makes him the highest paid GM in history.

Looks like Jimmy Butler was right about Minnesota and Philadelphia. He has unequivocally become the leader of the Heat, and has helped them become one of the best teams in the NBA. KAT hasn't won a game since the day before Thanksgiving, and Minny has lost 11 straight. Philly with all that talent, is 22-2 at home, and 9-18 on the road. And they maxed out Tobias Harris, instead of Butler, and let JJ Redick walk. Tough times for these two.
