Other than that, carry on. Here is the only situation where I would not leave Mavs fandom if Mike, Dan and Tony were hired here. If he could get Luka and KP to work together long enough to trade KP for big value. Then trade KP, fire all 3 of those guys and go win the championship! Other than that, carry on. Defense is of major concern with Mike, Dan and Tony, Tone, Toni. No matter what it looks like at times in the nba, defense will always win championships. So yeah, for these guys to coach here it may be a non-starter. I like Mike D and think he has sort of gotten a bad wrap on Mavs message boards. He had two really good stops in PHX and Houston and a bad stop in NYK. I think he could really unwrap Luka and KP if that is salvageable. He would really need a really good defensive staff and be willing to play more players. I just don't think he is the best fit though. I think he has some Nellie in him. Very good to great coaches, but they appear to miss that last ingredient to win a championship. I don't know how to explain it but something just seems to be missing. He has had chances to push through but they just seem to disappoint when it matters most. I don't know much about his coaching style to be honest. I have heard a few media guys rave about his communication style, but I tend to be hesitant to take this as gospel. But I can certainly see it being a strong point. He appears far down the process with Boston though with 3-4 other guys. Not sure he will be available when the Mavs start interviewing candidates. If he is available, I think it would be smart to interview him because he certainly appears to have traits that younger players may relate to.alise edit--He also appears to be a finalist in Portland. RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL in search for new GM/president - cow - 06-21-2021 One thing I like about Chauncey is a story he told when he first got to Denver and was playing under George Karl. Karl didn't have any inbounds plays drawn up for coming out of timeouts so Chauncey drew something up for the team. It reaffirmed my belief that George Karl sucks as a coach and made Chauncey seem like an okay guy. haha RE: MAVS NEWS: DAL in search for new GM/president - sterlingmallory - 06-21-2021 (06-21-2021, 01:47 PM)SleepingHero Wrote: Good catch. Perfectly said. That definitely seems like a trade scenario previous management would have looked into considering Oubre is expiring and that would totally fit the plan powder philosophy we've been clinging to ever since the last round of CBA bargaining. But since we don't have a GM anymore, any trade rumor prior to this point is pretty much irrelevant. I guess it remains to be seen if the strategy will ever change though, Cuban seems so traumatized by having all those bad contracts in the mid 00s that he will never tie himself down again (other than for Porzingis). He hasn't seemed to have realized that with 5 year max contracts and most guys on 3-4 year deals, it's not THAT hard to move a bad contract if you need to, there will always be a team like OKC that will take your bad deal for a 1st round pick. I hope our next GM understands this and doesn't try to rehash plan powder over and over again. And I didn't say they run it back whole season. You have all until TDL to do the move(s). I really liked Morey quote I saw in one of todays article - "it's a failed perception you have to have all the pieces in place in summer" (don't take it word by word, but I remembered the message). Forde is credited with three POBO/GM searches in the Ringer article. The article says his process takes about a month. Here are the time frames for each credited search. SAC (1 Month) Divac Fired 8/14/2020 McNair Hired 9/16/2020 NO (2 Months) Demps Fired 2/15/2019 Griffin Hired 4/17/2019 Note: Griffin hired Langdon a month later to be his GM. Danny Ferry was interim GM during the search process and was a candidate for the job. WASH (3.5 Months) Grunfeld Fired 4/2/2019 Sheppard Hired 7/19/2019 Note: Sheppard was on staff and handled duties as interim. His official hire came after the draft and free agency One way we may get a clue as to how long this takes and how bad things are is if they announce an interim and if that person is Finley or someone from the outside. Unless it was Mark calling GS? He's still here. One thing Jake Fisher said recently (that wasn't said as clearly in his original report) is that Dallas was absolutely making outgoing calls on KP. Warriors: We like him as well but would trade him for the right package. Maybe a pick and matching salaries. Mavs: We don´t want to give up KP but if that is your last word we will consider it. He was all about Random Basketball. Sort of like Rick. I'm assuming that's why most of the long time assistants for Rick were also long time assistants for Karl. Lots of similar core concepts. Karl wasn't the perfect coach but he was an incredible coach. Completely adaptable too. He was a grind it out defensive minded coach for years. Later in Denver he one of the coaches a bit ahead of the time with the offensive concepts.
