RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - dirkfansince1998 - 06-02-2021 (06-02-2021, 07:04 PM)Aussiebballer Wrote: If the Pacers decide to blow up their team could try a deal of KP for Turner or KP + Green for Brogdon. My daily post: Out on any defensive liablity for max or near max money. Sabonis would be an upgrade on offense. Might be even worse on defense. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - Aussiebballer - 06-02-2021 FYI Sabonis is making $18-19mil for 3 more years. So no where near Max RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - dirkfansince1998 - 06-02-2021 (06-02-2021, 07:55 PM)Aussiebballer Wrote: FYI Sabonis is making $18-19mil for 3 more years. So no where near Max That´s a solid number but I still don´t like the idea. Already mentioned that KP has the worst +/- among rotation players for the Mavs. Sabonis joins him in that category. Worst +/- on the Pacers roster. Getting rid of one defensive liability and replacing him with a guy that has the same problems but makes 10m less is not the solution. All in on Turner. Probably a top 5 defensive big. As long as the Mavs have Luka and RC the offense will be fine. Defense on the other hand is a mess and it starts with the bigs. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - Aussiebballer - 06-02-2021 I see what you are saying about defence but trading for Sabonis would be massively better then what ever the Mavs ACTUALLY end up doing in the offseason. A Luka and Sabonis pick and roll would be awesome. Doubt Pacers would it without all of Dallas other assets anyway. Cuban is the one who decided he knew better than everyone else that the draft was not important enough to be great at. Cuban was the reason Nash walked - he knew better than everyone else who to pay. Cuban (and his belief he knew better than the league about the new CBA) was the reason the Mavs threw their oozing-with-talent team in the dumper and couldn't win again after a title - he knew better than everyone else how to quickly assemble talent for the next generation of winners. Cuban was the reason that 2-time MVP Giannis plays for the Bucks - he knew better than everyone else how to manage the draft and the cap. And no doubt he has fingerprints in the messed up pie in many more places too. I certainly expect a number of trades with some big names involved. Hopefully not just heading big market way as New York seems in line for a couple of big moves to get the fans really going. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - Chicagojk - 06-03-2021 Seth Curry dropped 30 in an elimination game last night. Also Tyrese Maxey got to double figures in 3 of the 5 games in round one. I still maintain that him and RJ Hampton are the guys I am most worried about passing on, and not Bey and Bane (who were both very good). I liked the brief moments we saw of Green and hope he gets consistent minutes next year, but passing on Maxey still worries me. I have tried very hard not to make any firm conclusions on any of the rookies this year though....but just a general feeling I get in my stomach. Their past front office would make them an ideal partner to make a deal with as you could get a win on them. I think their new GM may be a little better. Westbrook is on borrowed time. When the end comes, I believe it will come fast and be ugly. As a guy who dominates the ball so much, I have no idea what you do when he loses 15% of his athleticism. I really like Rui from my viewings. He is just real solid and probably deserves a bigger role, but with Russ it is tough. I also really like what I have seen from Gafford. They really need Avdija to get healthy and live up to their expectations. If he does, they may be in a decent spot. Although with Beal contract being a ticking time bomb and how long Westbrook can maintain a high level of play, they are really in a tricky spot. Sort of feels like a team, who is a 6-8 seed for the next few years and then a team that goes back to a rebuild. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - StepBackJay - 06-03-2021 If you are the Wiz you maybe have one year at most before it's basically time to blow it up. You might even have to blow it up before then depending on how things are going. You risk profile is all the way on the high risk, high reward side of the spectrum. None of your young guys are building blocks. So trade Bertans, Rui, Dani, Bryant and #15 to the Mavs for KP + filler and have a legit big 3 to try to push for a real playoff run. You will have MLE + bird rights to some usable pieces (Ish Smith, Lopez). This would be your last hoorah. If it doesn't work you might pull the plug at the TDL or the following summer. At that point you will just sell everything off that you can and tank for real. For the Mavs you would get 3 young guys with upside, 2 of which are on rookie scale + whatever you get at 15 and another high volume shooter in Bertans. I am not worried ab Bryant so much in that he is on an expiring deal so you can see how he looks and if he isn't right you just move on and still have the other assets from the trade. I know if I was a Wiz fan I would want an all-in move. This is like the Bucks trading for Jrue Holiday. Tinkering around the edges is not going to do anything. They have two top 20 players, if KP can be a top 30 guy they could be a contender. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - HoosierDaddyKid - 06-03-2021 I don't understand the Trae Young disparage. Do I think he's better than Luka? No. But he has shown maturity and growth in his game, aside from the "look at me" antics that a lot of players do. Have to give Nate McMillan credit as well, they took off after he was named coach. He is leading a young talented Atlanta team by making better decisions, learned how to use the tricks of the trade to draw fouls, and getting his teammates more involved than before. Luka is a transitional player for sure but Trae is an upcoming star in his own right. Dallas got the better player, but that trade was a win for both teams. It's not about disparaging Young. He's a great player. It's about dragging Hawks fans who are still so insecure about passing on Luka that they insist on trying to justify the deal at every opportunity. While Luka fans compare 77 to Lebron, Bird, and Jordan, Trae fans incessantly compare their guy to... Luka. The pain from that trade must have cut really deep to still be dealing with those scars. RE: AROUND the NBA: Ainge OUT in BOS w/ Brad Stevens moving to front office - HanspardsShowerVoice - 06-03-2021 When discussing what NBA teams are doing to do, I think we as fans often overlook the motivation of the ownership. They're ultimately the deciders. Fans are always quick to say blow things up or trade away assets and rebuild, because it's just a glorified fantasy league for us. The thing about the Wiz is their owner will never voluntarily blow it up, imho, because he's the CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment which owns the Wizards and Washington Capitals and the WNBA team and the NBA G-League team and the regional sports TV/Streaming network and the Arena that all these teams play in. That's why the Wizards have almost always chosen to make short term moves rather than blow everything up and do a full rebuild, because he needs the team to be the centerpiece of his entire business portfolio .. this isn't some billionaire vanity side project hobby for him.
