RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - dirkfansince1998 - 01-31-2021 Curry, Draymond and Kerr might be even better than we thought. Wiggins is looking like on of the best 3&D wings in the league right now. Had a slow start but is averaging 18/5/2. Shooting 41% from 3. His onball defense has been outstanding. I think Draymond deserves a lot of credit. It´s incredible to see and even more important hear a vocal leader without the crowd noise. Especially compared to the Mavs lack of communication. RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - Fuerza1 - 01-31-2021 Here is a video from The Ringer on how the Memphis Grizzlies are quietly forming the next early 2010s OKC Thunder. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLr0tu85ZI0 Bane, Tillman are two players that could have started on the Mavs on day 1. Bane is currently shooting 52% from 3 and providing good defense; Tillman is showing Draymond versatility on both ends. Grizz are succeeding with Morant missing most games and no JJJ thus far. And they are doing it with YOUTH. He's pretty good. @"Kammrath", was he one of the guys you liked? I said it at the time that passing on Desmond Bane, Precius Achiuwa, and Maxey were big mistakes. This is sickening to watch The Mavs need to invest in U.S. scouting and add someone to the decision making process for the draft. Put Donnie over International Scouting and keep him as the head but they totally fucked up in the 2021 draft. Which perhaps might've made Bane look different. Mavs obviously wanted him at 31, and Memphis made a move to grab him. You win some, you lose some. I think the biggest mistake of the 2020 draft was Terry, not their choice at 18. I liked him better than Terry. And the Mavs liked him enough to bring him in for a workout. I do agree that Green was a fine choice though, and I am more than happy with the pick. But Carlisle needs to start giving him legit minutes before it's too late. Btw, the Mavs had no interest in Bane even at #31, Tim Cato wrote about it in his piece at The Athletic. They really loved Terry (eww). As far as winning some and losing some, and let's throw out this draft, what are the Mavs best draft picks of the last 10 drafts? Crowder, Luka, Brunson. RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - SleepingHero - 01-31-2021 (01-31-2021, 02:21 PM)Fuerza1 Wrote: There is no such thing as a reach if you select the right guy. C'mon now. You seriously don't think draft position doesn't affect players mentally? Bane at 18 comes with much more pressure to succeed than Bane at 30. Especially the situations he's walking into. Memphis is rebuilding through and through. Mavs are looking to make the next step. Bane's mistakes would be amplified here. Now again I think Bane would've been a good player here, but how much better than Green? I can't say for sure. And I don't think Bane was worth nabbing another first round pick to get him. Terry was the major failure so far. But it's too early to write him off and this season is weird as hell. RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - KillerLeft - 01-31-2021 The question regarding Bane is: how much will he improve? If this is what he is, that's pretty good, but not anything to cry about missing. Green might not end up reaching his ceiling, but if he does, that's a needle mover for the Mavs, who desperately need his type of athletic ability (if it comes in the eventual package of a rotation player or starter). Same for Bey, imo. There's a version of the future where both of those guys are better than Bane. We won't know for awhile. RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - cow - 01-31-2021 If Bane is playing good defense and ends up shooting 40% from three, is that why you'd hope Green evolves into? Green probably has more defensive upside but I'm not sure how you'd classify one as moving the needle and the other not. And the question still remains about playing. Bane wouldn't get 22 MPG thanks to Carlisle. Size, length, and range of opposing players to whom that defensive ability can be applied. A higher impact in transition. A higher impact in transition. Green hasn't shown much on the offensive end and the biggest positive we've heard is from Carlisle calling him a smart cutter. If Bane ends up a deadeye shooter and a + defender, he'll have a gravitation impact that could also be considered a needle mover. Bane's shooting percentage would certainly help out in an area the Mavs are struggling with right now. RE: AROUND the NBA: 18th roster spot only two-way player or vet as well? - Fuerza1 - 01-31-2021 Bane is one of the best 3PT shooters in the NBA already and that is not hyperbole. He is a rookie and although he is 22 years old, he has plenty of room to improve. Younger does not always equal = more potential, or older = less potential; that is a common myth. Luka turns 22 next month and we are talking about how much more Luka can improve. No, Bane is not Luka and I am not saying he has star potential, but Bane can definitely be a solid role player/starter on a contender in time. As of now, I am not aware of any such players currently on the Mavs roster besides Luka. Again, love the Green pick but he is extremely raw and Carlisle isn't exactly known for developing these 19-year-old projects (see: Green's minutes per game). |
