I get Stevens a lot of credit for clearing salary quickly. On the other hand, I wonder how they become a contender again. It is an easier path if Tatum resembles the player he was in two years. It also helps they are in the east. It may be best for Tatum to play more power forward. Especially if he needs time to regain quickness. Jrue and KP were huge in their champion run. Horford too who probably has only a few years left. Those are big holes to fill. Stevens has not made many mistakes but it is going to be difficult to make a great team who is now good into a great one again.,

Trading KP is huge for Boston. They can no longer play the 5 out offense that spread the floor and led to open threes or straight lines drives to the basket. Now opponents can have a big in paint to stop dribble drives.
In just a year their potential dynasty has disappeared. I don't see them ever getting back to the level they were with Tatums injury and these trades.

Tatum coming back to what he was is unlikely anyway. They are probably doing a bit of a soft tank next year and with KP expiring, I doubt that wanted to give him another big, long-term contract. It will be interesting to see if these Brown trade rumors come to fruition.

I think Boston had a masterful offseason so far. They got under the second apron without giving up a FRP. They got Simons that have some value and they still have most of the picks going forward. They could easily package Niang (for example) and a bunch of picks for a center for the future. KP was good for them, but he was rarely available. As usual...
Not sure what BKN goal is. To control all the picks in this draft?
They do have a bunch of open roster spots so they could even afford to draft several guys. Not sure about the idea though.

The idea of KP is enticing. Extremely tall, can shoot 3s. Then you get him on your team and something happens. Suddenly teams are wondering what they can get for him in trade. To know KP is to trade KP.

Do you think these moves were inevitable even without the Tatum injury? Or do you think they would have tried to keep most of the team together (maybe move one of Jrue or KP) if Tatum was not injured.
It also raises the question of teams with multiple high level paid players if this is a roadmap they will follow. For instance, Orlando. They have Paolo and Franz coming up. Suggs is making good money and so is Bane. Will they need to do some cost cutting in two years?
How long is the CBA good for? Do you think there are some changes in the next one?

I don't know what Atlanta is, but they are interesting. Young, long athletes on the wings. A good creating point guard who now has a more defined role. Two centers who have warts but also provide some real benefits. If Jalen Johnson is really an all star caliber player, they have a fun, interesting team.

I think the Tatum injury has given Brad the absolute perfect excuse for breaking up this team that was going to happen regardless this summer.
Now fans aren’t mad about it.
Still, if they continue to shed players like White and Brown, I’m not sure how they ever return to what they were.

I thought it was hilarious when the rumors prior to this trade showed the Lakers having interest in KP.

Boston had KP exactly as he should be as a 4th or 5th option. That's his ideal role and what made him effective. I don't know I would pay him 35 million for that role, but thats another another topic when dealing with KP.

I think Boston's new owners having to pay 500 million in luxury tax had more to do with those trades than a Tatum injury. Tatum injury only made it easier for them to offload salary.

I would expect a player his size to be more effective around the rim, have a better array of shots inside and, as a 3point shooter, have a better touch on the ball. Guess Dirk has me spoiled as to 7 foot shooters. Not that great on defense.

He missed most of the playoffs and they didn't seem to miss a beat.
This selloff was inevitable (not a good sign when owner sells team), it may have just happened a little faster with the injury. That's why I was annoyed that we made offseason decisions based on how to compete with the Celtics.
